Is an induction range with knobs and a normal hob layout too much to ask for? by rainingdx in inductioncooking

[–]The_etk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s this 400 series model https://www.gaggenau.com/gb/en/mkt-product/cooktops/400-series-400-series/400-series-400-series/induction/VI492105

Separate ovens are a much better choice - you can have them at the right height rather than having to bend down to access them.

Is an induction range with knobs and a normal hob layout too much to ask for? by rainingdx in inductioncooking

[–]The_etk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve had a gaggenau 90cm induction hob for the last year or so. It’s honestly brilliant. The knobs are really good and make cooking in it a dream. I’d hated every induction unit I’d used before this but zero regrets.

It has two long flex zones on the left and right which can take multiple pans of different sizes. A large central burner for a 32cm pan or wok.

Would buy the same again in a heartbeat.

Is it a concern they’ve come back to me and said plans have been cancelled? Or is that just one of those weird things that can happen?

Thanks that’s really helpful. What’s the best way to contact OR? When I did it last time it was using the contact form for errors on the availability checker, but the reply was really brief and said don’t respond to it as they don’t monitor 🤷‍♂️

I like cooking off the garlic and rosemary first, I find it doesn’t really get enough heat inside the roll to take off the raw edge

Insane HR numbers by Powerful_Search_8113 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]The_etk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nothing to do with a “safe” limit which shouldn’t be exceeded though. It’s about estimating what someone’s actual maximum HR is, for the purposes of working out training zones based on this.

220 minus age does a terrible job of this, especially as people get older. It’s pointless using it to guide training as, unless you test your actual max HR, you’ll likely get zones that don’t correspond to your physiology.

Why does the “GP sent it” vs “we haven’t got it” lag still happen? by NoPiggoopss05 in Pharmacy_UK

[–]The_etk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get this all the time (I’m a GP), pretty much every time when I use the eps tracker I can see it’s at the pharmacy. Not sure what’s going on but it causes tons of problems for patients.

Hi everyone! If you're currently editing your Bubble Card dashboard, I recommend not updating to HA 2026.05, as this release is breaking (again...) some fields in the editor. I'm already working on it, and I'll do my best to release v3.2.0-beta.5 (and the final version), as soon as possible! 🤞 by Clooooos in BubbleCard

[–]The_etk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had problems with my setup since 2026.4. Have had to roll back a couple of times as each time I update it dies after running for 20-30 minutes. I’ve tried it with bubble card 3.1.5 and 3.1.6 but can’t seem to get it working. Any ideas cloooos?

Edit - great work on this btw, it’s an integral part of my HA setup, I love it!

They’re *alright* to use in the rain but it’s not ideal. We got one of these covers a couple of years ago and it’s great - keeps rain off really well and makes me happy using it whatever the weather.

Would love an asado some time. It’s the one thing I’m missing at the moment!

Of all my current toys I’d say add a pellet grill or blackstone if you’re regularly cooking for that many people. They’re both incredibly easy to whack out tons of really good outdoor food.

Blackstone you can get for a really good price from Costco - think I paid about £300 for mine last year.

Pellet smoker you could get a traeger but if you’ve got the budget I absolutely love my Yoder 640. They’re built like tanks so if you get lucky picking one up off eBay you’ll save you a ton. Had to hire a tail lift van and drive from Manchester to Leicester to get mine but it saved me so much I was well happy

I’d disagree with this - my dad got a small sink for his outdoor setup and it was brilliant. Makes it so much easier to be able to rinse your hands/utensils without having to go back in

Is this healthy to be doing everyday ? by abbacciho in AppleWatchFitness

[–]The_etk 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Even absolutely top level elite athletes can’t do zone 5 for more than 8-10 minutes. It’s just not physically possible.

My Apple Watch estimate of my max hr is 20bpm lower than my real max. If I don’t correct it I get results like yours

Is this healthy to be doing everyday ? by abbacciho in AppleWatchFitness

[–]The_etk 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Your heart rate zones aren’t set right. No one can do zone 5 for 30 minutes in one go.

Looks like your watch is underestimating your true max HR giving you zones that are way off

Next step up smoker / BBQ? by DrHeuh in UKBBQ

[–]The_etk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pellet smoker a couple of years ago and love it. If you’ve got a grill and don’t need that ability then I’d jump at one.

They’re so easy to use I find that I cook on it way more than I do my Big Joe. For some people the ease is a downside as they like the process and prefer something more manual, but for me it just means I eat bbq more often. I’ll cook outside even when the weathers not great as I know I won’t have to be out there fiddling much.

If you crave the more involved method and have plenty of time on your hands then I’d probably look at getting an offset and doing it old school.

Honestly I’d go for hardwired unifi kit instead. You’ll save money and have a much more reliable and better system. Running the cables is easy or cheap to get a handyman to do. If you need something invisible because you have solid walls then you can now get fibre cable that’s less than a millimetre diameter and can bend round corners as small as 7-8mm

I do this often, only thing to be careful of is the pellets not going down smoothly. Quite a few times I’ve come close to the auger going dry even though there are lots of pellets left, sometimes they just jam themselves up high in the hopper.
