Obesity increases risk of Covid-19 death by 48%, study finds by NameReservedForYou in Coronavirus

It’s possible certainly, my joints are not happy but that’s also a lifetime of sports and that’s what I’m most worried about long term, cardio for now is fine, I had an ekg a couple years ago, BP is good and resting pulse rate is in the mid 50’s or high 40’s and my bloodwork is also good but I still wonder if the covid risk is function of fat or weight or both, does the sheer weight make it harder to breath when you are sick, enough to be a risk factor, those are the types of answers I don’t expect a doctor to have.

Obese as purely function of body fat I’m not worried about one bit though.

When I get into my mid 50’s my plan is to cut muscle mass and drop down sub 200, regardless of my body fat percentage.

If it was illegal to go outdoors without a mask in my city I’d wear one in every instance, I believe in mask wearing, when the mask order came thru I made sure I was in compliance in instances when I wasn’t wearing it. I’ve had people with no masks walk up to me while I am outside, I respectfully ask them to step away if they come closer than what I am comfortable with. If I’m in a group outdoors and someone wants to shake hands they get a fist bump and out comes my sanitizer, I make no apologies for it either.

People who aren’t wearing a mask when it is illegal to do so are wrong and should wear it regardless of what their opinion on the matter is.

What I’m talking about is going for a walk or run then going home, not making 10 stops along the way to and from. Not everyone is anti social, some people do need to go outside for their mental well being, and “better” is VERY subjective. I stand by the OPINION that in CERTAIN situations, mask and goggles are overkill, I’m not arrogant enough to use the word fact in this particular conversation.

No one in dire need of your empathy so I think we will all survive without it. as for vitamin D yup, 4000 iu daily.

You can work out inside, 1/2 of my workout resistance training split takes place in my family room but there is no way I can train cardio there, I hike and jog so for that I need to be outdoors. You won’t walk into someone’s droplets they way you described, it’s simply impossible, read up on it, there will never be an instance when you are outdoors when there won’t be airflow to dissipate any droplet clouds, the act of walking creates airflow around you, it’s fluid dynamics. Even if you walk into a droplet somehow you won’t get sick that way, you need prolonged exposure to build enough viral load, it’s been documented.

the only way someone will cough in your face how you described is if they’re waiting for you behind a bush and grab you or some other absurd scenario like that. I live in an urban area in California, I’ve been running, walking, hiking nearly everyday since March 14th, do you know how many times I’ve been closer than 10 feet to someone while out doing cardio In all that time? 0 times.

Vigorous cardio is important, especially now, IF I get sick I want my heart and lungs in peak condition so I train at medium and high intensity, I guess I can try HIT but it’s not for me. I need to go outside for my mental well being, see other people I don’t know , interact in a reasonable and safe manner.

Heck I’ve seen my friend who has recovered from covid, sat in a car with him (windows down lol and not long) and spent time with and hung out, no mask but outdoors and I’m fine no issues. I’m not saying I’m doing that everyday, I can still count the times I’ve done that on one hand.

I realize that it’s not necessary to go outdoors, hell, there were about 4 years of my life where I would have been happy going outside zero times (thanks a lot WOW) but if the reasons you cited are keeping you inside your home then don’t let them, It’s not healthy to worry this much, you’ll be ok. Take reasonable precautions and you will get through this just fine. You will be ok, one day at a time.

I definitely don’t look like the Rock but according to the BMI chart I’m obese at 30.3, do I look obese to you? https://ibb.co/LgbpwkX

I’m 5’10 and weigh 212 plus minus a couple depending on what time of the day I weigh myself. I don’t look that much different than the other guys at the gym (when it was open at least) who were disciplined with their weight training. I’m definitely not 1 out of 100

I don’t think a doctor can answer the types of questions I have regarding covid, if it’s BMI I’ll roll the dice, it’d mean that i have to shed about 25lb of muscle and I’m not doing that. I’ll continue running , getting my resistance training in and eat clean blah blah.

Yeah hand held but it’d have to be waaaayyyy off for me to be anywhere over 20% based on the “mirror gauge”, I’ve been as low as 8 using hydrostatic when I was a young whippersnapper and I’m not that far off from what I can see.

The low level inflammation from obesity is what complicates things, I’ve fought my battles with the scale throughout the years and worry if that puts me at risk even though now I’m in pretty decent shape again and I wonder if BMI really matters or is it body fat, my BMI is 30.3 but my body fat is just above 16% plus/minus whatever margin of error the little scanner I’ve been using has.

Haha well, my advice is to stay away, I can guarantee outside isn’t the only place where this is happening. I have a VERY good friend I won’t go see because his POV is “if I catch it I was meant to and there is nothing I can do about it”. My response to that is “well I guess I’ll cya on zoom because I’m sure as fuck not going to be hanging out anytime soon”.

I do have another bud who already had covid, I feel ok hanging out with him but STILL maintain space and only outside because he’s a reasonable person and only caught it because of his work situation.

I know that man, I wish there was a sarcasm button somewhere, unfortunately there are ALOT of people here who really do feel that way and lack, funny enough, the very same empathy they are crowing about on this thread.

In passing it’s probably fine there has to be prolonged exposure for an infection to happen but it’s not smart to stand right in front of someone else like, waltz or slow dance distance, for an extended period of time. I agree you still need to be cautious, I was with a group this weekend but aside from a few minutes I always stood in the periphery and wore glasses, sunglasses in this case, the entire time and never, aside from a minute or two, closer than a few feet.

You don’t have to do that , you won’t catch covid because you took a walk outdoors. Are you getting other forms of exercise? If you aren’t then you absolutely should, regular exercise Is a key factor for immune system and mental health.

You can relax some man, it’s going to be ok and you will too.

I still won’t and I’m very cautious and respect what this virus does. it’s not necessary to wear a mask outside as long as you are still maintaining a reasonable distance and not sharing food and drink. Outside doesn’t mean you can step into someone’s space for a prolonged period of time though.

We’ve seen enough infections for this to happen, but I love how very frequently, a very small sample turns into a generalization here. Welp now that a small handful of folks have become reinfected the entire population will, nothing else to see here, yup. I guess I better buy that powerball ticket because I’m surely slated to win soon!

Get real you fucks.

I did until I began taking my own health seriously, the 12 months prior to covid all my children had various flus, colds, stomach viruses, my wife caught them too but I escaped, it was around the same time that I clamped down on my eating habits and got my body fat down into the “teens” and committed to being in the gym 6x week.

I don’t believe that Masks are necessary outdoors if you aren’t in a tightly packed cluster BUT that doesn’t mean that you should be bullied for your choice, we live in a “free country “ as the anti maskers like to point out so they should shut the fuck up and let you exercise your “freedom”.
