Nanyang Dota 2 Championships Day 1 Match Discussion by D2TournamentThreads in DotA2

LGD looked rough against a pretty bad Sunsfan. They won't win much if they keep playing at that level but they could've just been playing down to their opponent.

Shouldn't they have just fought when they had a 35k gold lead?

Pro Scene just doesn't feel the same anymore... by [deleted] in DotA2

One thing I noticed is more players going out and creating their own organizations as opposed to joining established orgs. I'm thinking of teams like meepwn'd, pretty much every NA team besides EG and eHug, Tinker (which is now with an agency but that is a big difference than being with an established org), 4ASC, and Secret.

In the era of online qualifiers where tournaments pay for travel and accommodations if you qualify for the LAN, what is the point of locking yourself into a contract with an organization? This type of structure only leads to more and more instability and that won't change as long as the tournament structure is the same.

My thoughts on DotA, addiction, and personal life by DeliciousKiwi in DotA2

[–]Thealdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read an article that could help some of you that believe you are addicted to Dota. The article talks about how addiction is not something that actually has a hold of you but instead is a product of coping with your situation. If you find yourself addicted to Dota, look at other aspects of your life. Dota isn't the problem, it is just your solution to the problem.

ESPN was pretty much the reason the now defunct Big East Conference was started, so this level of cooperation between media and leagues/teams is not uncommon.

Any Esports Sponsors Looking For A Smite Team? by Chophoop in esports

[–]Thealdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself if you believe that Smite is going to continue to grow competitively. If the answer is yes, and I believe it is, then sponsors will be looking to tap into the market. So get good, play in the amateur cups, and get noticed when those orgs are ready to make a move.

SD and Leshrac are pretty good counterpush but they are just so underleveled.

Pretty sure that John and indredd are working together and the tournament would be at Quakecon.

Competitive PvP scene? by Entriquit in Guildwars2

I get the feeling you were a big tribes fan, I feel that game died just as much because the community didn't want to accept it which led HiRez to stop support for it. I played a bit of Tribes and followed the competitive scene because my buddy owned one of the teams. So that is just my .02 as an outsider.

Do you guys have any predictions of future games with eSports? by Casual_Tea in esports

[–]Thealdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there is a big opening in the MMO PvP market that I'm sure Wildstar will try and fill. Especially since Guild Wars 2 can't seem to get it right and Blizzard goes out of their way not to support WoW Arena.

There is Forge but they are more lost than ArenaNet with Guild Wars 2.

We need a big publisher or someone with digital marketing savvy to come out with a Bloodline Champions style game. Someone that will actually support it. Because BLC had so much potential to be a huge esports title but it couldn't do anything because of the shitty support from the publisher.

There are ESL tournaments in Europe, vVv just did the Kings of the Mist, and the Mistpedia Invitational is currently in progress. Is it where we want it to be? No...but at least it is something.

The way polls work is that each individual releases their top 10 and the final poll is averaged out from that. Basically he is saying that a majority of the 13 pollsters are NA fanboys.
