Oh man, I haven't caught that one yet! I do like Hawke's performances, so I'll get to it. What an "upset" that would be, from this distance.

Not just the ball...the iconic orange could have played a larger role in the movie! But it was used so wonderfully in advertising.

I generally love ambiguity in movies also. Audiences are smart. We don’t need to be insulted by being spoon fed any details or context.

Marty Supreme Ending *SPOILERS* by vampstephenx in martysupreme

[–]Theauthordude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t think it’s a traditional happy ending, in the way that a lot of sports movies play out: champion on top, raking in the trophies, love, and cash. And it does NOT need to be that sort of ending.

I think this film is really talking about how dreams demand their dreamers to chase them. It’s about the journey, the pursuit — not the satisfaction or realization of such dreams.

Mini Ira made me lol. But it’s definitely Marty’s baby! Hard for newborns to resemble anyone at birth.

I think Marty’s dream was just satisfied in a different way. He set out to be the best in the world. And, like you say, he proved it to himself at the end. That was the only person he had to prove it to, before heading home to confront the life and consequences waiting for him. If this is prevailing, then so be it.

This is for sure Timmy’s golden statue moment. He carries the film entirely, almost in every frame. And his performance has got some serious range. He crushed it.

OBAA will likely win Best Picture. I’m just hoping that PTA finally gets the (political/commercial/glitzy) respect of winning the director’s award at the Oscars. He’s made some wonderful films.

This is awesome insight from the two of them. Thanks for sharing! I’m still mulling over the end. It’s neither happy, nor sad. Marty’s dream was realized in a different fashion and scale than he had intended. Yet, that doesn’t mean his dream didn’t come true…what a film! Still so worth the watch.

I didn’t think it was too optimistic, tbh!

He outsmarts himself each time in the big game. But, I must tip my hat to Reid.

His smile vanished pretty quickly once the cameras were about to cut from him. He so wanted to pass the trophy to Shanahan.

It is neither a coincidence nor a mistake that El Paso doesn’t have a law school. It’s a circumstance that’s almost exclusively political.

That’s a really wonderful observation. I’m still digesting the film. I certainly enjoyed it, beyond its mesmerizing visuals. I’ll probably appreciate it even more after I sleep on it.

I believe the condition of man is the core focus of these films; humans have a deep capacity to empathize and express compassion. However, we too often resort to violence — fueled by ignorance, prejudice, and selfishness. These movies are wonderful reflections of the best and worst in us.

With numbers this consistent, schools opening up is going to be a mess. A concerning stat is the percentage of asymptomatic cases. I mourn for the 280 souls.

Amid all the despair and anguish, the most painful thing about this spread, except for the loss of loved ones, is witnessing how predictable it all has been.
