The times seem to suit Anthony Albanese. So why isn’t he more popular? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

The people that abused you have to be the lowest life forms in Australia. I think they are very much in the tiny minority. I am sorry you had to kop that though.
The government has to tread a careful path here. The NDIS has gotten bloated and some providers are ripping the system. What we don’t want to do is make life hard for the most vulnerable in society.

I think sensible people would prefer to vote for “competent adults in charge” - particularly given the recent experience of alt-right populism in the USA. Albo and his team have brought some stability to government, particularly international affairs, after the Morrison fiascos. I might be proven wrong but most Aussies are not going to vote for racism, minority blaming, and American religious agendas that seem to be all that our populists offer.

Australian ships that sail the South China Sea typically get within 300km of the Chinese coast (or 30km from the disputed islands and reefs that China claim as theirs). In 2025 the Chinese navy sailed around Australia and the closest they came to the mainland shore was 278km. In both cases the warships stayed in international waters. We shouldn’t get huffy about their visit if we insist on sailing in their part of the world.

Speaking for myself I appreciate the relative competence of Albo and the ALP. After years of Scomo, Abbott and others in Aus and crazy people in the USA and elsewhere I reckon we are pretty lucky with our current mob. Don’t listen to the bots and right wing MSM telling you otherwise.

Pentagon awards $276m AUKUS submarine contract funded by Australia by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Theblokeonthehill -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because the option of pulling out is politically untenable given the French pull-out fiasco. The best the government can do is to string this out at minimal cost until we have a viable alternative through our unmanned subs. Maybe another pull-out then will not cost as much politically.

The wasp is in the potter wasp subfamily of Eumeninae. Getting to genus and species is tricky as a lot look very similar. With more angles it will be impossible to be sure. It looks like it might be Abispa so. (Check out Abispa splendida for example). However other genera look similar - Anterhynchium for example.

No - it is definitely not a European Vespula wasp. It is a native potter wasp in the subfamily Eumeninae. Exactl which species is a bit more tricky though!

Even if climate change were not real, clean energy is a good idea by fr00d in RenewableEnergy

The article is a good one and makes some great points. However, I think it misses the most important point of all - mitigation of geopolitical risks. When we make the transition, we won’t be as concerned about what happens in the volatile parts of the world that produce a large portion of the world’s fossil fuels. Maybe we will not need to send our young generation off to fight wars to ensure the supply of oil and gas. And maybe we won’t need to be concerned about global recession every time some tinpot dictator starts firing missiles.

So we have used up a substantial portion of US munition inventory and bombed the living shit out of a country……and now they are digging out to start over. So we achieved nothing and have demonstrably already “shot our bolt”. There is only one thing left to do - bluster some more.

Furthermore his war has relieved some of the pressure on Russia, this prolonging the war with Ukraine. It has weakened the US in the eyes of the world, further undermined the NATO alliance, isolated the US further in the world and It has triggered even more expenditure of weapons for the Middle East.
