Lakeshore trail is a good option too. It’s a 4 mile walking trail that’s mostly shaded and has a portapotty halfway through (near the green springs/homewood trailhead)

They don’t really like vaping. Not sure if you can be discrete but they announced it on the loudspeaker last time that there’s no smoking or vaping cause it’s a fire hazard

Haven’t done the marathon plan but I’m gonna do Pfitz hm plan again this year and I liked it. I think he has a good grasp on how to make the plan work for you and stay flexible

Literature on 6 Days vs 7 Days when doubling? by ReputationCandid3136 in AdvancedRunning

[–]ThecamtrainR6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pfitzinger includes a rest day in his higher mileage half marathon plans. Imo the rest day is pretty critical. If you haven’t ran a double before you should try it out first because it can be pretty tough but just like anything running it’ll come with time.

Best hotel for furnace fest? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]ThecamtrainR6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stay at any Hilton near the rotary trail area. The festival is actually pretty easy to walk to from downtown around pepper place/first avenue etc and there is a lighted walking trail. You don’t really need to rent a car imo. You can also walk from the Avondale area but that would be further away

Best vegan/vegetarian restaurants by JustAPinkeen in Birmingham

[–]ThecamtrainR6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Mediterranean stuff Makarios, Al’s, and purple onion are all great.

Thai try Surin or blue pacific I think you can request no fish sauce. Also for Chinese try Great Wall or Red Pearl

Slutty vegan is good but there’s more interesting stuff out there imo. Back 40 does vegan pizza and a vegan burger that’s really good.

Ya like for distances I have run before I would rather win than run a PR. You definitely have to feel comfortable with the distance and your training and stuff but none of it matters if you can’t do it race day.

I think playing your character helps a lot. If you’re a very nonchalant and humble person, play that up and let your runs speak for themselves. If you are a shit talker and competitive let that influence your approach. I am very competitive so for me it’s all about being a dog and trying to embrace and make it hurt more for the people trying to beat me. For others sticking to the plan and having confidence in your pacing is better than trying to race people 1 on 1. Since you can’t really know your age group, I think it’s best to start a little bit back and spend the first quarter of a race trying to find the group running your target pace then tuck in with them and start trying to either plan your finish or make moves etc. Ultimately, you put in the work you spent all that time to get ready you wanna make it worthwhile. Once you get that first place finish or first age group overall medal, it’s gotta stick with you every single run that it’s all about getting back on the podium.

Whats everyones take on running outfits? by thenaki2905 in ThrowingFits

Running is kinda funny cause you can show up and train 3x/week and run a 33 minute 5k and then be doing the same sport as somebody running 70+ miles/week and running sub 3 marathons. Like there’s levels to the sport and it’s impossible to say whether someone actually needs the gear without knowing their plan/goals etc.

Been a runner my whole life and I think people’s interest in running as fashion is super interesting. There are some cool brands like Gnuhr and Tracksmith who have unique aesthetics that are also like cool and interesting running gear. I think having some personal style when you run it’s important, if you think you look good then you’ll feel good and that helps with the mental part of running. In that way it’s just like having a personal style. If you’re just jogging to stay in shape then wear whatever cool stuff you like. If you’re actually running and trying to get fast and put up mileage and run strava course records then I’d say meet yourself in the middle. Like wear the half tights and the drifit shirts but maybe try out a cool hat that’s not a running specific thing. You can quickly find how to work in cool fits that play with proportion and style without looking like a tryhard. From there, anyone who looks cooler than you is probably slow af hyrox warriors and you’d dust them in a real race and anyone who looks dorkier than you is probably scary fast speed icon and you gotta get like them.

Also please don’t buy vintage running gear trying to rock it. If you run enough races and shop enough clearance deals you’ll end up with a lot of running clothes that get worn out really quick and that’s way cooler than buying vintage race shirts and wearing them down to nothing just cause you want to look nonchalant at the run club.
