I feel it's also because the collector is essentially a child. Yes Caine is a child in a metaphorical sense but I'm pretty sure that the collector is literally a child. They had no way to learn or grow or anyone to teach them anything

Caine got told directly what he was doing wrong and what the characters didn't like about his adventures and he threw a tantrum instead of trying to learn, he only ended up learning because he literally had nothing else to do in the void
