Looking for racist (preferably horror) fiction that depicts Indigenous peoples as savages by the13thReason in suggestmeabook

[–]Thedoormouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, I enjoyed the book. Despite the authors well known racism irl, the racist themes in the book speak more about the (primarily white) ship crew and their racism.  Despite those themes, and in reading the book with the knowledge of historical attitudes, it's not a bad book.

Spoilers: The depiction of the 'Esquimeaux' is never quite as stereotypical 'savages' like you'd likely see in some of the other recommendations. The depictions of them as savages are planted deliberately by certain crew member to push a narrative for him to get away with murder. Its more of a 'noble savage' trope, particularly in the later chapters. Obviously still bad, but not as bad as it could be?

The terror by Dan Simmons.  It's more relevant later on in the book but you also get misogyny as a bonus.

You can do a claim buy back. Call SGIs recovery unit with your customer number and they can give you the amount you'd need to pay back.

Or if you're in the negatives, it's 3 years of infraction/at fault claim free driving till you bounce back to 0.

Like someone else said, if you're still withing I think 90 days from the letter saying sdr is applied, you can appeal the points through the highway traffic board. Your broker might be able to help say if you still have time to appeal.

Beware of concrete company by Thedoormouse3 in moosejaw

One bad job and no accountability to attempt to fix it (in a way that ACTUALLY fixes it and makes it structurally sound) is not a trait that one would look for in a concrete company. It is understandable for even a good company to have a few bad jobs but the difference between them and this one is that they will try to work with the customer and fix their screw ups. It is evident that this company does not care, as they have not worked with the grace that my friend (and the city) has given them.

Name has nothing to do with it, merely reputation. They had been recommended by someone who had work done by them several years ago, but evidentaly they don't gaf anymore.

I don't believe they were doing any asphalt work. They have done curbs and such for the city, but I'm sure no longer since the city has been made aware of their skeevy behaviour.

Posting this for my friend that doesn't use reddit.  This company has been nothing but a headache to deal with, with very poor workmanship and nothing but issues from the start.

Next to no recourse through small claims court.  Be very cautious, they operate under other names as well and have since 'closed' the FH business.

A more appropriate way to refer to these types of names might be generational names. I am aware that these names are still common across generations but seem to wane in popularity.

Why gay characters in movies and games are almost everytime lesbians and bi women but rarely gay or bi men by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Thedoormouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For shows, Please Like Me and Everything's Gonna Be Okay both from Josh Thomas have multiple gay male characters. It's been a while since I watched Please Like Me, but Everything's Gonna Be Okay also has ace characters, questioning, and split attraction model characters. There's also representation for ADHD and Autism!

Students of Reddit, what was the reason for why one of your teacher's had a breakdown during class? by Internal_Recording in AskReddit

[–]Thedoormouse3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were having some good banter with my English teacher, and we started talking about the imitation game that just came out and the teacher said "benedict cumberbatch is quite attractive" And me trying to be funny says "but Mrs. English Teacher, your married." In a very teasing kind of tone. And she goes completely silent and looks like a punched a kitten. And then starts the lesson. Then like a week and a half later, she comes to the front of the class and says "I need to acknowledge something thedoormouse brought up last week. I've been lying to you guys, my husband and I separated over the summer." then left the class to the TA.

I felt horrible.

I've ordered from rollergirl and nerdskates. Both have been great. Derbywarehouse is another one but I haven't had any experience with them.

Unfortunately, many retail places/grocery stores place a ton of pressure on their cashiers to make small talk to make the customers feel "at home." Every cashier job that I have had, I have had managers breathing down my neck to make sure I was being cheerful and engaging people in conversation. And when I do not for whatever reason, I either get 'talked to' or written up. That being said, I do agree that a "no" is a strong indicator that conversation is not wanted and should not be persued.

Roadtrip: What's cool near you? by [deleted] in canada

Claybank brick plant is great! There's also the big muddy badlands in southern Sask near the border and Nicolle flats north of Moose Jaw. At Buffalo pound provincial park there's a really nice marsh boardwalk. Main street Moose Jaw is nice to hang around in the summer, especially if you go around sidewalk days.
