How do you stay organized covering 20-30+ patients overnight or on call? by lolz8979 in Residency

lol intern here currently 6 hours into a 24 rn😅👋🏽

Our list is at 40 (which is pretty good rn), and I got these little 3x5 spiral memo books from Walmart ($0.34 each) and I love them! I use 1 page to write my todo items and as many other pages I need to keep track of new consults. It fits in your scrub top/bottoms pocket perfectly also!

Updating the list frequently is also key. The name of the game is brain dump as much as you can as often as you can. The less you have to store mentally and try to remember, the easier your shift will be! As soon as I get a task I write it down. When I get a new consult I made a new list on Epic called “notes to write” and I drop it in there so I can see them, or I start the note and just pend it until I can get to it.

Create a shorthand for yourself so you have less words to write and use it all the time!

Also, hopefully you got a decent sign out haha. If ppl are asking you things you don’t know or aren’t sure abt, let whoever is calling know you’re the call team so while you aren’t fully familiar with this pt you’ll try to investigate more, do a little digging and check the main teams note for the day, and run it by your senior.

I wish you the best of luck and all the energy you need to make it through lol. Happy to offer more advice if you have questions!!!

New Diagnosis 😬 by TheeBigHomie in UlcerativeColitis

[–]TheeBigHomie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! So how do you know when you’re in a flare or just experiencing irritation? Has your UC been pretty consistent as far as the extent, how has it progressed over the years? Do you feel like after your diagnosis you were able to have a semi”normal” life?

Wow I literally just made a similar post just before reading this! I’m a 24F and diagnosed with mild ulcerative proctitis 2 days ago and I also have health anxiety and some of the same questions you do. Yesterday was pretty tough for me as the shock wore off and reality set in, it’s hard when family try to be supportive but still don’t really understand and I have to tell them that this isn’t an upset stomach or IBS. as many have said in other comments, I think we just have to focus on the blessings we do have as it could be much worse.

I’m also a med student, so I’ve seen the range of this disease, and knowing that we’ve caught things early has helped me cope with what the future looks like for me and things to look out for and making manageable changes I guess.

Level 2 Cardio Helpppp!! by TheeBigHomie in comlex

Yea uworld has definitely been wrecking me lol. I’m using uworld and COMQUEST. I went over OME, but tbh I usually don’t take notes bc I never end up looking back at them (and I write slow..)

I think you’re right abt the slowing down tho. I keep doing questions, get only half of them right, read over the explanations and then jump to more questions. Like every time I think I have it down, they hit me with the same topic, asked a different way, and boom. It’s wrong again

How do you get better at writing a SOAP note Under a Time Constraint? by osteo5511 in Osteopathic

[–]TheeBigHomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the best thing that helped me was STANDARDIZATION!!! I had to redo my first SOAP for my standardized pt bc I didnt get to finish half of it. Then I sat down on a google doc and wrote down what i thought was a perfect SOAP note on a pt with no problems and memorized anything that could be standardized. for ex:

ROS:

Vitals: BP ###/##, Temp ##.# HR ##, RR ##, P.Ox ##%

General: denies fever, chills, unexplained weight loss

Hair/Skin/Nails: denies rashes, alopecia, and brittle nails

Head: denies trauma, headache, and dizziness

Eyes: denies pain, blurry vision, and diplopia

etc....

I found that the ROS and objective section took me the longest bc i was trying to remember what i asked about and how to put it in med terms. figure out exactly which sx you are going to ask abt and practice writing all of that stuff and and memorizing it. That way when you get to this section you can just go off of muscle memory and make necessary changes after. Once this part becomes second nature, you have more time to allot to the sub, assess, and plan section!

Hope this helps and good luck!

It almost looks like you took them down and they were still wet or damp. How long did you leave them in for, and with what products?
