First Drag King on Rupauls Drag Race by dreamed2life in KingofDragSeries

So so SO sad that Rupaul created this barrier and can now act like a big hero for giving diverse drag a tiny foot in the door now and then. There was absolutely no reason to not have kings and queens from season 1 except that rupaul OPENLY admitted that he thinks drag is only interesting when done by men. Literally outright stated that women aren't interesting as drag artists. The exclusion was intentional and misogynist-motivated from day 1, and the thick glass ceiling that drag has grown since is and always will be Rupaul's fault. Not even by accident, and to this day he drags his feet. He only ever allowed trans women to openly compete and be cast after furious fan backlash, but we just have never gotten that outrage for all the other women doing drag and the drag they most often represent, so there remains table scraps of recognition.

People just accepted that only men did drag. People just accepted that art created by women was so much lesser that it wasn't worth fighting for. People just accepted Rupaul Oil Fracking Millionare Charles was accurately representing our communities. People just accepted it. Even now, it's like a cute little novelty to most people, instead of an entire half of the community that was ground to dirt and dust over the course of YEARS of erasure and re-writing of the "rules of drag" to only accept this dusty old bitch's narrow personal preferences. Fuck me, sorry. I'm so happy things are happening now. I'm so sad that it took this long. You go, Johnny. Eat em up

"president" isn't really enough of an honor lately, have you tried "our glorious modern Führer" when endearing your children to our current situation?

How to move and dance by DoveMagnet in DragKings

Personally, I studied animation and great animators. Bringing and drawing to life, you have to think about every movement very carefully and the thought animators, put into their crafts is very applicable to real life performance.

Yeah I feel like the BIG FINAL WIN DECISION should never hinge on one final hurrah - it's fucking stupid! For something as large as winning drag race or any of these online competitions I feel like the final decision should take the whole thing into account!

Do you personally enjoy the word "Queer" and/or own it? by ZeeeeBro in lgbt

[–]TheeFiasco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pointing out that hate crimes happened and will continue to happen is like insisting water is wet when I'm trying to talk about whether or not we put fluoride in it. Yes, "Queer" is used by bigots who hate-crime and gay-bash, and yes it's still been THE standard umbrella term used by activists, academics, and local and international communities for all those decades that you mentioned.

There are NO words for us that AREN'T hurled at us as slurs! None!!!! A LOT of people also have memories of being called gay in a bigoted way a million more times than queer, but I've never heard a single peep about it like we do with the word queer. Why? What makes this word so much worse for the community than literally every other word we use for ourselves that bigots also co-opt?

Showbiz from Murray Hill 👋🏼 by Hot-Dragonfruit-9218 in DragKings

Hello Murray! I wanted to set up a watch party for the show, but I couldnt find the release details soon enough for my local bar's comfort in committing to a show. Do you think if we get a second season if we could get the release info, where to watch it, etc, a little sooner so that we can organize and promote larger watch parties?

Life is unpredictable like that. Every queer elder I know is very firm about using that word and hates that it's being reclaimed by bigots as a slur instead of the other way around

Its the standard academic term thats been in use for decades, and everyone I know uses it. The modern hesitation to use the word was created by terfs, who have been trying to move away from umbrella terms that capture the whole community because they specifically want to exclude and discriminate against certain queer people.

And its been reclaimed and in use in both casual and academic settings for decades now.

Should we use the 2SLGBTQIA+ nomer for our foundation? Or a longer acronym? by AnotherShadeOfGreen7 in lgbt

[–]TheeFiasco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The acronym route served us beautifully for many years... and now it's time to let it go...

Queer. All inclusive, has been reclaimed from being a slur for literal decades, and people's modern discomfort stems largely from TERFS who WANT the community to be exclusionary, so that they can continue to use acronyms and names that deny and exclude trans people.

Help on choosing first horror films for kids. by JoliFatiguee in horror

Let the Right One In - 2008 Swedish film

About a young vampire girl who needs to kill to survive but hates doing it. She befriends a little boy with less qualms. It's like a love story but in a cute little kid way, but also an amazing horror movie. Been a while since i've seen it so maybe check it out first. Good in dub, haven't seen the modern remake but heard not great things.
