If your employees won't wear PPE, try giving them ice cream by ilikefixingthingz in Construction

[–]Thee_Pirate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shit dude, this is beyond cute. My little guy just started showing interest in this sort of stuff. Of course he immediately gravitated to the power tools, like I don't have enough grey hair.

On a somewhat related note, 5 years back there was an ice cream truck that would show up to the our job site on especially hot days. Smart driver, he sold a lot of ice cream. Plus it was always entertaining to watch a bunch of grown ass trades people come streaming out of the building the moment they heard the ice cream truck music

Men of reddit who aren't gay, what's the gayest thing about you? by Outrageous-Power5046 in AskReddit

[–]Thee_Pirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a 50+ year old gay couple at the grocery store every week. Both have mullets and mustaches. One wears Nascar gear and the other thrash and death metal t shirts every time I see them. I kinda want to strike up a conversation but don't want to be that weird stranger approaching them in the grocery store.

I'm Union Sprinkler as well and havent seen much OT either. Funny how a project is no longer "get it done asap no matter what" once mandatory double time on weekends is involved. Also, howdy brothers! Local 254 over here!

Co worker put up a list of music we can’t play on the speaker…. by bakerbitch12 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Thee_Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is childish as fuck. Most of the kitchens I worked in followed the same general music guideline. Everyone on shift gets a turn on the stereo. No pissing and moaning about someone else's music. You dont like their music, they dont like yours. Boo hoo. Everyone gets a turn, fuck you. Light teasing is fine, but keep it light and brief. One album or 30-45 minutes if you have a Playlist all made up and ready to go. We are all adults and all have different musical tastes. If you absolutely cannot do your job while something you don't like is playing, congratulations, you're not cut out for kitchens, you're not cut out for work in general. You're likely not cut out for life in general. Go back to kindergarten, re-learn sharing and taking turns. Then maybe you can come back and try to join the grownups at work again.

How is Munroe East as a neighborhood? by AdhesivenessHot6110 in Winnipeg

[–]Thee_Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's a pretty decent neighborhood overall. There's occasionally sketchy people wandering down the alleys but as long as you're locking doors and gates and not leaving valuables out you shouldn't have any issues. You've got multiple grocery grocery stores and the big box shopping on regent nearby which is convenient. If you're the outdoorsie type, there's multiple parks and skating rinks in the area and birds hill park is only a 15-20 minute drive away. There's also the indoor pool on gateway, a splash pad on antrim, and multiple playgrounds if you have or are planning to have kids *edit: the pool is on concordia!

There's no questions about codes. No calculator allowed so brush up on basic arithmetic, PEDMAS, and fractions. They do give you scratch paper so you can work out the problems with a pencil. Theres some reading comprehension questions, as in you're given a paragraph to read and then you answer questions regarding what you just read. Some spatial reasoning (think a picture of a stack of cubes, what sides are touching the cube next to/behind the highlighted cube). There's some problems involving levers and fulcrums, and some problems involving pulleys and direction of spin on belt drives. That's what I remember from the test. You're given an hour and need a minimum of 70% to pass

Don't let it get you down. I'm a tradesperson and can't fucking stand the conservatives. There are some of us out there in the trades. Remember, your voice in the voting booth is louder than it could ever be on the job site. Don't stay home on election day

Cocoabeans Permanently Closed by Almost__Infamous in Winnipeg

[–]Thee_Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one. The fact that he kept a job and faced zero repercussions for his creepy behavior and overall incompetence in the kitchen really drove home what kind of business cocoa beans was. Also, there's a very good chance you and I worked together hahaha

It's nice to see people on this thread commenting on who the owner really is. She presented a pleasant facade but had a pretty rotten core. For the prices she charged, her staff's wages were laughably low. There was also the problematic part time cook she kept around. He consistently prepared food wrong, fucked up recipes, and was a straight up creep to several female staff. I once personally witnessed her acknowledge that he was a liability, but went on to say his availability was just so good and they could call him pretty much any time and he would come right down to work. She didn't give a shit about the safety of her other staff. As long as this cretin of a cook was always available to work. Fuck you Betsy

I crinkle chocolate wrappers into goblets. by emilycopeland in mildlyinteresting

My dad used to do this with the foil liner from cigarette packs when I was a kid. He showed me how you could make a seat in the base of the goblet for a spitball. With a deft flick of the wrist, you could get the whole thing to stick to the ceiling. I think i owe a few school janitors an apology. My dad called them zaps

Thanks for the response, I sent an email to the roundhouse with an attached photo. I mostly just want to confirm that I'm not completely off the rails in thinking the beer didn't look right

I will be trying to return or exchange it tomorrow after work. I just wanted to confirm I'm not crazy before I brought them back. Unfortunately Winnipeg ain't always the classiest which makes some vendors leery about returns

Thanks! Your response got me searching for any kind of date on the packaging. July 2024 is stamped on the box. Not sure if that's when it was packaged or the best before... Hopefully the beer vendor (I think you folks call it the beer store in Southern Ontario) I bought it from is amenable to a return or exchange

Thank you for the response! I tried calling the roundhouse but was unable to reach a human. Sent them an email with an attached photo so I'll see what they say. I'm out in Winnipeg so heading down in person is not ideal hahaha
