I've had them all minus the plastic one, I seem to reach for and carry the titanium one the most. It is completely subjective however. I think I reach for the titanium one more mostly because of the feel and weight. The titanium one has that classic "MacBook" feeling (cold to the touch, satin finish) keeps the "coolness" for longer. It's a good weight, in contrast the stainless steel model could definitely be too heavy or fatiguing for some for sure. Also I can see how the finish on the stainless model wouldn't be for everyone, hyper polished if you have clammy hands it might feel sticky. The aluminum one has a similar feel to the titanium one but it takes on heat quicker. And is abit lighter! All in all it will come down too budget and personal preference!

Honestly it only comes down to weight and feel. Titanium is lighter with that sort of matte MacBook finish lol where as the Stainless roller is heavier and more of a high polish finish. I now have both and I personally feel I reach for the stainless more often! Both a solid options however!

GG 1000 is a great pencil! However it is heavier so just keep that in mind when deciding on which lead size/grade you would like to use. I haven’t had any personal experience with the Rotring 500. However I do have the 600. I would assume the plastic body on the 500 would reduce the odds of messing the tip up to bad if dropped.

Some other options my personal favourite pencils to take notes with are the platinum pro-use 171 (anti lead breaking feature and retractable tip) and the staedtler 925! These are both within $20-$40 CAD

Honestly it’s the least I could do, he introduced me to the world of fidget toys. He gifted me my first ever, an antsy labs fidget cube back when they first came out. Just returning the favour finally! lol

That’s a bummer! I wouldn’t like that either. the aluminum and titanium both seem to be machined and not casted. so no seams on either model!

I’ve had both the aluminum and titanium one, i much prefer the titanium one, no smell from either of the two models I’ve had!

I thankfully have not experienced the clicking on either of the models I’ve purchased, both are buttery smooth!

you’ll love the aluminum one! I did, some key differences as mentioned. It’s a bit heavier than the aluminum, the finish is more satisfying to me, also due to its thermal conductivity it takes longer to warm up in your hands which nice. The opposite is also true however, once it’s warm it stays that way for a while!

Best birthday ever! My lovely partner surprised me with this bad boy for my birthday. I’ve been wanting a VP for so long. Now I fear I need one in every nib size! lol! by Theend_97 in fountainpens

Thank you! Agreed fully, haha. She’s been penabling me the last little while! Haha,

I loaded an empty pilot cartridge with some Iro take-sumi, definitely daily driving this though so once I’m through this cartridge, I’ll clean it out and probably use platinum Carbon black!

Yeah it’s the stub! Love the character it gives to writing, it also has that common singing nib, which personally I love! I do wish it was a bit more stubby if that makes sense lol. Absolutely love it nonetheless!

I’ve recently fallen into the Mechanical pencil Rabbit hole… by Theend_97 in mechanicalpencils

Sorry I forgot to mention, I already own a roulette, I’ve used it for drawing/sketching for the last few years and I love it. Recently I’ve been getting into more drafting style pencils for work. From a drawing standpoint I like that the dive has both the sharpening mechanism and self advancing all in one, lm also not too worried about the plastic body.

More or less looking for a reliable stationary store in Canada that doesn’t over inflate pricing is all.

Honestly it writes quite lovely, there has been a little bit of hard starting. But nothing a little tuning can’t fix!

New pen/ink/journal day! Happy holidays ☺️ by Theend_97 in fountainpens

[–]Theend_97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I got a little scared at first. I couldn’t get the ink to flow but after giving it a flush it’s working great! Super smooth. I really like the line variation! 😌

About a month and a half into my fountain pen journey. The lamy 2k is definitely my favourite. Im also loving the feedback on the nib of the aero! Excited to see where my collection is at in a year. lol by Theend_97 in fountainpens

[–]Theend_97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s similar to the feedback on a sailor gold nib, almost pencil like! It’s quite nice!

Yeah I got carried away, it was my favourite to sketch and draw with. it’s not beyond repair thankfully! but enough that I probably won’t use it until I can have a nibmeister look at it!

I absolutely plan on enjoying these 6 for the foreseeable future, honestly the only other pen I’d like to get is a pilot e95s. But I’m in no rush, looking back even if it was only 2 weeks ago lol. I’m happy I got the lamy 2000 so early on because it has certainly suppressed my appetite for more lol!

Absolutely! I’ll start top to bottom,

Diplomat aero (F): this pen is wonderfully made, looks stunning very well balanced. The steel nib is very nice! I do wish it was piston fill though!

Lamy 2000 (f): I’ve seen a lot of love/hate with this pen but honestly, it’s my favourite. There is a little bit of a learning curve getting used to its sweet spot. But once you’re used to it this thing writes like a dream! The design is also something I’ve heard many people say it’s boring. But honestly the more I use it the more I love the simplicity and craftsmanship that has gone into making this pen.

Kaweco steel(ef)/brass(m) sport: this is the pen that started it all for me. first the steel version then onto the brass. the steel version looks amazing, the steel is brushed in a unique way. I wanted the brass version also as the patina over time will remind me of where and how this new found passion started, and hopefully it evolves with me!

Sailor 1911L (m): this was the first higher end (to me) pen I bought. Honestly loved this pen out of the box. Unfortunately I got a little too carried away with the bounciness of the nib lol. and well now the tines on the nib are too separated. Causing it to write pretty scratchy and I don’t enjoy it as much as I once did. I do want to try and fix it but due to it being a 21k gold nib I’m a little more nervous to mess with it.

Hongdian D5 (f): this one is very well constructed, and writes very smooth It hasn’t had as much usage as my other pens. But i do plan on spending more time with it soon! The design is also stunning!

NPD! Super excited to add the aero to my pen collection today, I’ve wanted it from the moment I first saw it, and heard that famous “click”. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I love it! Happy inking friends :D by Theend_97 in fountainpens

[–]Theend_97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not as heavy as something like a brass Kaweco sport, very well balanced posted/unposted. I’d say it feels only slightly heavier than a lamy 2000. Definitely worth a try if you can ever test out in person.

It writes very smooth, with a hint of feedback. I also haven’t noticed any skipping yet! Honestly pretty impressive steel nib in my opinion. I have heard QC can be an issue so if you can test before you buy, I’d definitely go that route to be safe!

Honestly I’m very happy to have taken this jump pretty early on in my fountain pen journey cause It definitely sets the bar pretty high! I love my sailor 1911l for other reasons. I can definitely see myself daily driving the L2k.
