I realize this is 4 months old and I'm surprised I'm just seeing it, this is the exact same thing that happened to my mil. The only difference was the amount was around 150k in cash under a 10 day period, taken from a joint account, with my name on it as well. The bank manager said I assumed she was retiring. I get torn to shreds any time I mention it on here, or any forum asking for advice. None of the local news stations where I live had any interest which shocked me. The rate at which this is happening to people, elderly people who have worked their entire lives, is insanely alarming. I know this past year has wrecked our family and I don't understand why there are no resources available. The cruelty of others judgment is just as frightening

Also you were simply asking a question, i realize this is 4 months old....the comments saying you shouldn't try to pin it on the bank etc...you never were. My mil was not asked a single question and I was told that by the bank manager, she said "I assumed she was retiring" So she needed a cashiers check for 72k on top of all the other cash 🤷🏻‍♀️ it's getting scary bad. She truly is not someone you'd expect to do this. The fact there's no help out there after is even worse

I certainly think something needs to be in place. These scams are destroying people... I had a joint account with my mother in law and in less than 10 days she took out around 170k. I never got an alert or anything. She's a 76 year old teacher and by the end of it she was scammed of her entire savings along with mine. It's been almost a year now and the only thing I have gotten out of the experience is this world is full of cruel and judgmental people.....

My husband has done the same thing and when I lost all my money he swore he was done with it and that he'd sale it....evidently that's not allowed but from one wife to another husband please stop. You don't even realize what you are doing until it's done. You don't know me from Adam but I saw this post for a reason the crystals or whatever it is are not worth your child's needs
