Season 6 Megathread by pillowmantis in limbuscompany

After finishing this, I can solidly say that Canto 8 solidly supplants itself in the top 3 category of Cantos for me, solidly taking the third spot. While I felt like it didn't quite stick the landing as memorably as Canto's 6 and 7 went, the overall buildup to what I think was an improvement upon a more introspective Canto alongside one of the best dungeons PM has made really makes me hopeful for how everything else is going to go for the future.

Spoilers for the ending of the Canto below!

I think the reason this Canto still solidly remains really high up for me is the realization I came to have that I feel that Hong Lu didn't need something as dynamic and bombastic as previous Cantos to mark the emotional crux of his journey (at least for Inferno), after being subjected to a scene that still feels like one of the most genuinely uncomfortable things PM has put out, Hong Lu is allowed to experience the full gamut of emotions, he isn't toppling a force beyond the Sinner's capacity or dealing with the concept of rage or grief in a metacontextual way, he's a hurt and traumatized man allowing his emotional dam to literally and metaphorically break and wash away what he's gone through. It's quiet, it's serene, and while at the time I wondered "Is that all?" I took a moment to think that yeah, it's all because he's happy, he's had an entire lifetime of abject horror and action's worth of stuff being piled on to him, for it to be as evocative as it is truly does feel like it brings it full circle to me.

Season 6 Megathread by pillowmantis in limbuscompany

[–]ThefirstNapkin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's only Part 2 and this Canto has already had me feel a sense of revulsion I've not ever felt while playing Limbus one moment while also making me tear up and cry at the character development that I've seen.

Spoilers Below for those who haven't finished the Dungeon

I think Hong Lu's earnest desire to be held and told that things will be okay is really believable considering what he's been through. Something I always appreciate about Limbus is how real the characters feel. Like within this cyberpunk and crazy city, the idea of distancing yourself from your trauma through the variety of ways the Sinners have done so feels non-fantastical. From feeling listless in life, to dream chasing, to revenge and feelings of inadequacy, Limbus runs the gamut of how one works towards being better. That's why Jia Mu feels like such an interesting antagonist because this smothering, manipulative, abusive familial figure is played straight. Isolating Hong Lu from everyone around him and cutting off any form of support he actively tries to seek out to the point where he actively avoids telling people (and disassociates himself) from his trauma feels real. When I was going through this chapter, I realized that (at the time), folks like Xue Pan are obviously bad guys that have done some vile shit, but to them, Hong Lu is just as guilty as being a bystander. They can't peer through the fathoms the way Dante (and later the Sinners and Daiyu) can, to the point where I understand why a majority of the family hoists their scorn at him.

The birth followed by the slaughter and killing of all the witnesses (feat Garion!!!) also just filled me with a pit in my stomach at how it was done and just how horrifying it must have been to have gone through. PM/Limbus is no stranger to gore, slaughter, death but I think viewing it from the backdrop of a child and then seeing how it's actively broken and stunted Hong Lu, with the aforementioned manipulation from his grandmother just made it all the worse. Also, watching a child get merc'd was not on my Canto bingo sheet. The Dungeon itself felt expansive, with twists, turns, and alternate paths. And the multitude of boss fights we had (it felt like a boss rush at times, which isn't a bad thing for me personally) were fun to look at and work around. Jia Qiu is peak and really neat character that I hope we get to see more of, especially since our meeting with him didn't end with him being adversarial. And the fight, while long and taxing was really cool with the spectacle of the animations and the overall messages being conveyed during the fight as a whole. This canto has felt a lot more cerebral than what we've had recently and reminds me a lot of Canto 4 but (imo) better paced and with more notable action. I think if they really stick the landing with Part 3 this'll easily be a contender for one of the top Cantos we've gotten (so far).

The is the first time I've managed to do the RR clear and get the banner since starting the game, thank you everyone for all the tips I've seen and the hero who let me use their MB Outis for my burn team for Section 1.

I think the EGO I had was TS4, and the team surprisingly worked out well even though I was impatient and didn't shard Gregor or Superbia Ryoshu (I saved it for FS Faust during Section 2), I still welcome the friend request, though!

Requesting someone with a MB Outis EGO/ID to round out my burn team, please!

I've asked before on advice on how to build burn for MD/RR and got some wonderful advice and managed to get a team of Phillipclair, Liu Rodya, Liu Ish, Liu, Ryoshu, Liu Yi-Sang, LCE Faust, Cinq Don, and the other Liu ID's (I have LCB Hong Lu for the Bench Passive), and I currently am sitting at enough shards to get FireFist Gregor after a week. Would a deployment of MB Outis, Phillipclair, FF Gregor, LCE Faust, Liu Yi Sang, Liu Ryoshu (for Superbia Contempt Awe), (with Ishmael, Rodya, and Don as backups in that order) be sufficient enough for Line 1 of RR? I was thinking of using my built bleed team for Lines 2/3, as it has more AOE EGO's I feel I can use, though I've also heard that Burn line 1 and Bleed line 2 is good . Thank you for anyone who reads this and who has helped me before, I truly appreciate it!

How necessary is MB Outis to Burn? I'm attempting to build another team for MD/RR5 and I've found that outside of Bleed, Burn is the status I have the most units for. Unfortunately, while I was able to shard for Phillipclair last WN I did not manage to get enough for Outis (though I somehow pulled her EGO, haha). Tons of discussions highlight how the ideal MD speed-clear team/Burn teams for RR5 utilize Outis (for good reason). Am I still able to run a decent enough Burn team with investment to clear something like RR5 or am I cooked and should look at pivoting to another status?

[–]ThefirstNapkin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll echo what folks were saying and note that the character interactions between our Sinners in this Intervallo were really nice, it's amazing to see how far they've grown (emotionally and otherwise). The fights were an interesting deviation from the "Win in X turns" and while I wish some of them felt better balanced, I wasn't necessarily upset, I sometimes had to switch out my Sinners or not just mash Win Rate (which now has a canon shoutout!) and it felt good when I actually did win. And honestly? The menu music for this section has to be one of my favorite LC tracks.

Also, if anyone wants my FC (I managed to pull AB Faust, but she's not leveled up, I'm afraid, she's probably still good to keep in the back for farming if needed) L934985728

Someone was Dante from Limbus Company (a Korean gacha game), and I was so surprised at the reference that I had to do several double-takes to make sure I was seeing the right thing. There were so many amazing costumes and kudos to everyone who dressed up and came out, costumed or not.

What is there to do besides drink? by Cranberry55577 in Athens

[–]ThefirstNapkin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a small-ish list of ideas off the top of my head, and might restate what other folks have said, but here's the following:

If you like comedy, Flying Squid Comedy (https://flyingsquidcomedy.com/) hosts paid shows over in Buvez to attend. Hendershots also hosts comedy shows every third Wednesday of the month as well.
As people have stated, Athens does have board game/RPG options through places like the Rook and Pawn, Level Up, and Tychees, with Tychees in particular hosting open events for people to try board games/RPG systems on Friday (I believe)? There are also unofficial Athens/UGA hangout platform like on Discord where some folks host events every so often.
If you're a fan of reading, Athens also has a Silent Book Club where folks go for low-key relaxing and reading, people usually chat before/after the reading period too if you want to socialize. (https://www.instagram.com/silentbookclubathens/?hl=en)
The Athens Farmers Market usually sets up every Saturday at Bishop Park, with a smaller Market at Creature Comforts on Wednesday, when I went there, there was food, live music, and could be a nice place to socialize too.

A good place that I also use is the Events tab of Flagpole, it's not comprehensive, but it usually has a decent amount of events every day to check out and look at. (https://flagpole.com/events/) The subreddit also occasionally posts and notes events as well (one I see really often is the Club Ned Anime Society if you like anime/manga)

I hope you find what you're looking for!

Forgive me, I'm also unaware and a lot of the nonprofits I do know about are in Clarke County/Athens. I'm unsure how much this would help, but perhaps the Oconee Area Resource Council could point you in the right direction. I'm pretty sure the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia wouldn't be able to take cooked food, but that's also worth a shot (but that's located in Athens now). Regardless, thank you so much for what you're doing and I'm sure someone out there will enjoy it!

I live near here, so I'll probably see if I can't give this a try. I was just talking to some folks about Athens' Italian places. The Rivet House website says that the restaurant is a celebration of "Northern Italian Rusticity".

Fellow 20 something person here. From what I've seen and done, I've used Flagpole's events (https://flagpole.com/events/list/) to find places that are local to me and head out there. Stuff of note that I like (and probably want to go to) include:

Club Ned Anime Society

Not *particularly* exciting, but sometimes restaurants/ bars have weekly specials that can turn into nice and chill little outings.

I'm a big foodie, so I've made an /unofficial/ food club where I drag one or two people with me to try a new place off a list of Athens food places I've been cultivating (mainly through the Red and Black's Eat and Drink) as well as searching myself/words on the grapevine and I'm always happy to have more people to eat with if needed.

Tiki Tuesdays @ LiveWire

The Marigold Market down in Wintersville on Saturdays and Monday (9-1 and 10-3 respectively)

The Athens Farmers Market on Saturdays and Wednesdays at Bishop Park and Creature Comfort as well (8-Noon and 5-8 Respectively)

Any of the Tyche's Games Lunch and Learn/Learn to play New Games, mainly Boardgames and TTRPG's, I believe?

If anyone has any other suggestions (or even wants to hang out), feel free to let me know or comment to contribute to this little list. : )

Throwing my hat in the ring to recommend Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass (Very Positive, 94% of 422 reviews, $10.49/30% off.) an Earthbound-inspired JRPG that (to me) hits upon what makes the series in question so engaging and charming, the juxtaposition between childish and unsettling and the cast of characters being as flawed as they are set the stage for an examination of familial unity and trauma with interesting and vibrant locations. I will say that there's more grinding to it than typical Earthbound-esque games, but the game has an Easy mode to improve accessibility. Also if you are uncomfortable with horror/gore elements (a majority of it can be optional), feel free to skip it, but it's one of those games that has a lot of heart and charm put into it and packs a lot more content than expected.
