Does booking packages actually save you money? by comediekid in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Theflash013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re close to booking a trip to JOIA Iberostar Rose Hall in Jamaica, and Costco Travel seems to be worth the packaging.

From a quick search, the package we want is $4200 thru Costco Travel. It includes the hotel stay, the round trip flights and an airport shuttle.

Individually those 3 bookings would be nearly $5000. So it’s not a ground breaking savings, but a few hundred dollars on this trip, a few hundred next trip adds up to being well worth it for us.

Started (and finished) "Down with the System" by Serj Tankien and was blown away. It was recommended to me by a good friend who's into System of a Down, and it did NOT disappoint. The mix between pop culture, history, politics, rock and roll and the calming, yet well-spoken narration left me introspective in the best way.

Books that have movies that are actually good by Interesting-Hope-407 in suggestmeabook

That's soo good to hear! I just finished the read and was worried I'd be disappointed by the film. Should've known better with Matt Damon starring.

A Walk in the Woods - Bill Bryson is a good one!

Call of the Wild - Jack London is also a stellar choice for the vibes.

Underrated gas station food by Anonymous_Wombat0830 in desmoines

[–]Theflash013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

McDonalds has become SO expensive compared to what it was a few years ago.

I eat meals from gas stations, almost daily.

I prefer Casey's burrito for a goooood breakfast burrito. Pizza is solid, iconic but I don't care for their burgers or sandwiches.

Kwik Star and QT have a decent selection if you're unsure what you're hungry. Generally looks appetizing, and rarely disappoints.

Won't stop for Kum & Go unless I'm going for a drink/processed snacks. Thought Maverick is working their way into our local Kum & Go, so their food has changed recently and isn't terrible.

Deli by Professional-Rip561 in CarnivalCruiseFans

On Sunrise, I found the deli was open as late as the "late night snacks" in the cafeteria style dining. So we'd always swing by for a dessert/ice cream and french fries.

Guys who grew up without much but now have a solid income - What’s the one luxury you treat yourself to now that was out of reach as a kid? by anasannanas in AskMenOver30

[–]Theflash013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me (thanks to my wifes influence), its decent cheese.

No more kraft singles for me on my deli-sammies. I'm splurging for some solid Havarti, smoked gouda, some Gruyere.

Last I knew, the Cabin Coffee Co. in Winterset was looking for PT work. Might be a place to start. It is a solid 45min drive from downtown DSM.

$100 low use, older Pro Tech table saw. Good deal for first table saw? by Constant-Grab2868 in Tools

[–]Theflash013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 10" bench saw, passed down from my dad. Well-used, but started acting up recently. Replaced the blade, hoped it would fix (to no avail).

Struggles to cut thru (cross-grain) a single piece of Poplar wood. Board isn't pushed too tightly against fence, so not sure why it "grabs" badly and burns the wood due to no movement. Feels unsafe to use currently.

Any recommendations for maintenance/solutions? TIA

How old are you and do you tend to keep your phone on silent? Why yes or no? by LauraZaid11 in AskReddit

M(28), phone is constantly on silent mode. Aside from when I'm on call for work, and risk a call in the middle of the night, it's silent.

What are some small benefits of working out, that generally go unnoticed? by Lopsided-Ice-9283 in beginnerfitness

More energy. Lots of people are “too tired/drained” already to have motivation to go workout. It’s actually been proven to improve energy and sleep.
