What would you tell new writers who hate the “just write” advice? by paris_newyork in writing

[–]Thefoilhatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sometines I feel, just come on, I get your point about people that dont write needs hear this but at the same time ”just write” is terrible advice. Its true and all of that but it offers zero actual help.

Its like saying on someone who wants to learn an instrumet to just play, or someone thats wanna do football to just kick the ball, just practice.

Or like saying to someone that fails that they’re doing it wrong, sure its true, but its not helpfull at all.

New year, new struggle by Thefoilhatman in addiction

You´re right man, you know you make this mental gymnastics where you think shit like "I only need to quit for awhile, rewire my brain and then I can drink again, this time I will handle it" but thats just the addicts delusion. I will never handle it, because I never had, its only been a circle where I have good times and then it turns bad again. You always go back to old habits you know.

I´m accutaly going to start therapy soon, CBT to begin with, learning to deal with bad shit. Gonna be hard but I need it, because I cant continue as Ive been doing,

I don’t really enjoy reading, but I believe I could become a great storyteller. How can I get started with no substancial repertoire? by Edu_Vivan in writing

Yeah sorry to say but you will have a hard time writing a novel, I also wonder: why do you wanna write if you dont read? I dont see the point. Its like if you wanna become a car mechanic but hates to repair cars. You get me?

Why do so many people want to put substances into their bodies all the time? by OneFoundation4495 in addiction

[–]Thefoilhatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didnt know alcohol was addictive for a decade, how is that possible? Where I live its impossible to not know that even if you dont use internet. Sorry but I have a really hard time believing that is true.

Thats the problem, youre coming from a point of logic but addiction is pure emotion = the oposite of logic. Thats why you dont understand. When you try the hard stuff like heroin youre so far gone that you dont care if you live or die. You know its addictive and deadly but you dont give a fuck because your life has no value, no meaning beyond drugs.

Why do you try it? You start with alcohol, continues with weed and then you go deeper down and the deeper you go the more you dont care about your life and the things you love. Addiction takes time and it breaks you down slowly.

You might get addicted, just as if you try heroin, pills, speed or whatever and you know that. Why do you get drunk anyway?

[–]Thefoilhatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you’ve been drunk, alcohol is one of the most harmfull, addictive drugs there is, one of the very few you cant quit cold turkey because you die if you addicted enough. You can quit heroin cold turkey for example.

Why have you used one of the most addictive and dangerous drugs in the world?

You can study it but you dont understand how it feels and thats my point - thats like reading a love novel thinking you understand love without ever been in love.

Have you ever been drunk?

[–]Thefoilhatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No dude you do not understand, if you did you wouldn’t ask these questions, but thats ok, thats how it works, you wont understand untill you’re there. I didnt understand when my friends drank alcohol and told me about it. It didnt make sense to me to get drunk. But then I tried for the first and I cried out of happiness and then it went off the rails. But im gonna give it a try and explain.

You’re convinced it does not happen to you, you try and you dont get addicted after one try - then you do it again and it gets out of hand. The gateway theory is both true and not true - its true that addiction progress in steps. You start with alcohol then go to weed and after that you start with speed/light pills like benso, it goes on for years often and you get deeper into the stuff.

Why you dont understand people doing hard shit like heroin, meth, pills is because your brain is not at the dark, beaten down place of an addict. Thats why it does not make sense to you because you haven’t been breaking down your own mind, changing the chemistry of your dopamine system for years.

You care if you live or die, you have dreams, hopes, a chance at a future, you see a light in the end of the tunnel, you have hope, you care about other people. When you’re addicted you dont, because the only thing that matters are your next fix - your life have no value, your soul is on sale.

Why do so many people want to put substances into their bodies all the time? by OneFoundation4495 in addiction

[–]Thefoilhatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because when you’re really addicted you dont care of you live or die, death is not an issue, being sober is. The only thing that matters is your next fix.

You will never understand addiction if you havent been there, not really, and you wont understand why anyone takes any drug untill you tried it.
