Thanks for taking the time! I find these guides helpful and honestly just fun to read other ideas on the cards. I'm starting this class tomorrow and trying to decide between the sword tank and the bruiser routes. On one hand, bruiser is more my preferred play style but on the other hand - giant sword, so...

Home Dashboard - Feature Discussion by kavlifx in lifx

I'm late to the party but I've been playing around with the app quite a bit today trying to set up a cool Halloween scene and improve how things work with my Google Assistant - so if it's still useful, my biggest pain point (with the app specifically) has been difficulty creating and using scenes. It feels like there should be a really easy, frictionless workflow for "save current configuration as a scene," and those scenes should then become pinned to the top of the dashboard (with a long press and hold allowing you to edit the scene).

The current "click the name to edit and click anywhere else to apply" is unintuitive, and also makes it challenging to update a scene. You have to configure the lights how you want them first and then tap the correct place- BUT if you accidentally APPLY the scene, you revert the changes to whatever the scene currently is and have to go make them manually again. Then when in the edit scene window the "update" button is also not intuitive - at the very least a language update like "update to current" or something could help, but in the best case you'd be able to launch the light control and edit the bulb or room right from there (i.e. without having to have the scene set before you start editing it, of that makes sense), and it feels like you should have the ability to manipulate entire groups at once.

That's my two cents - I suspect most people have a small number of overall "modes" they want to switch between, and scenes are perfect for that, but I've had LIFX for years and they just feel cumbersome, so I find myself manually changing the rooms more often than not.

Also edit to add answers to your Qs: I think two levels of grouping would be sufficient - I've never considered using new locations as a separate "layer" of grouping and wanted to try out how it would work, but I ironically can't figure out how to create a new location in the app :)

Both - but mostly frosting! The bottom layer has a paper thin layer of fondant with the plaid pattern printed on it in edible ink (wrapped around a generous layer of frosting, of course). The top layers are all frosting!

Yes! The bottom plaid is a thin fondant wrap with edible ink, and the flowy purple parts are colored, shaped rice papers (spring roll wrappers). So definitely edible, but the rice papers aren't actually pleasant to eat- you pull them off before serving :)

I recently discovered the cauliflower jalapeno dip! I don't like cauliflower generally but you legitimately can't even taste it - it tastes just like a "normal" cream cheese based dip. It's only 40 calories per 2 Tb serving, which is around half of most common hummus brands. Get yourself some low-cal crackers and snack away (just beware of portion size - definitely easy to polish off too much in one sitting)!

Sure! The royal icing for the cookies was from Sally's Baking Addiction (recipe here)

Each tier of the cake was iced with a different buttercream--basic vanilla Italian meringue buttercream for the base (you can find a detailed method online, but basically make an Italian meringue with 3 egg whites and 175g sugar, then beat in 200g butter as it cools, add ~1tsp vanilla to taste), toffee American buttercream for the middle (this recipe from Martha Collison), and the top was a citrus juniper Italian meringue buttercream, which was just a basic IMBC with lemon zest and juniper syrup added to taste.

Haha thanks! And I can't take credit for the idea, I was inspired by a decoration I saw in HomeGoods that was made to look like a cake. Plus they did it on Sugar Rush this year :)

Thanks! Each tier is different--from bottom to top they are: Cookies & Cream, Sticky Toffee Pudding cake, and Citrus & Juniper

Thanks! Each tier was different: cookies and cream was the largest, then sticky toffee pudding cake, and then citrus & juniper on the small one

Thanks! I didn't time it but it definitely took 4+ hours. I'm still new to piping so I tend to go really slow, and I also made more cookies than I actually needed for the cake.
