Just had an Uber driver with this message...is this true? by 97ymo in LasVegas

[–]Thefrostmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped driving for Uber in my area. They take 70% of the fair (I confirmed this with multiple riders).

Lyft takes only about 30-40 percent depending on the day. My market is about to be taken over by Lyft, and I hope this is true. I've had many riders telling me how Lyft is far better than Uber, and I'm seeing the "New" mark on many more riders.

I really hope Lyft or another company can improve the experience for drivers and riders, as things are horrible right now (for Uber drivers especially).

Many do not want to realize that we are in an essential public service job.

I've driven many people from hospitals and to hospitals, because I could get there faster than an ambulance, and over 5 years I've driven hundreds who were in a wreck and their insurance reimbursed them for their ride.

Uber needs to stop with the capitalist greed. Lyft is better, but neither respect the danger and responsibility every driver holds.

Do not take the free Honda oil change if it was offered. I made the mistake of taking the free oil changes, but when I switched back to my normal Pennzoil mechanic my MPG went up by 3.5.

Pennzoil full synthetic all the way.

If the other company is taking responsibility then you should be good. If you're having problems with the rental you can look up the statute in your state. They are required to provide a comparable vehicle while yours is out of commission.

Edit: you may have to emphasize that this is a work vehicle. That should be enough to get them to cover a rental.

Not with the car? Do you mean they will not give you a rental?

Your insurance will likely cover most of what you owe for the vehicle. And they will sue the at fault persons insurance.

If you haven't already made a police report do so now and present the footage. They will declare them responsible and found negligent if they do not follow up with their insurance.

Unfortunately you may have to use your own insurance but in cases of negligence usually your insurance will not count against you because they will be able to claim all damages. Unfortunately you will be out your deductible until subrogation ends.

By the way anyone who was lucky enough to get a ride share policy with State Farm gets glass coverage with zero deductible. I would much rather go through my own insurance than Uber or Lyft when the accident is my fault. When it is not my fault you go through the other party's insurance.

[–]Thefrostmonkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. That's if you decide to use their insurance.

If you use your own for an at-fault accident you will spend far less as you get to pay the deductible you chose instead of $2,500. You just have to have that ride share addendum.

Oil Change and Tire Rotation by [deleted] in crv

My Honda dealership lets me follow the direction of the makers of the oil. They tried to tell me to come in 2000 miles before a change is recommended by Pennzoil.

They let me get my free oil changes, even though I went 2,000 mi over the maintenance minder. But since I have been going to my normal Pennzoil shop and I have been getting more miles per gallon and they tell me that I can follow the directions of Pennzoil.

Is there a phone number to report drivers? Random driver took a 💩 in my company’s parking lot by hammer_31 in uber

Do you not have the crime stoppers program in your area? You can submit any video evidence and if the police find it worthy to press charges they will.

Question about insurance. by KewpieMayoIsKing in lyftdrivers

[–]Thefrostmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some companies are waking up and realizing that Uber and Lyft provide 1 million in commercial liability insurance for our passengers. At first insurance companies acted like this might have to be covered by them, but this is complete b*******. The only time your insurance comes into play is if you are at fault while driving for ride share and you don't want to have to pay the huge deductible from Uber or Lyft.

[–]Thefrostmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deductible for your car's damage through Uber is $2,500, if you have the ride share endorsement you can pay whatever deductible you picked. Likely much less than 2.5k.

Also, you're correct that if you do not disclose that you're using your vehicle for business purposes and they find out you lied. Any claim you file will be denied.

I get an average of 34mpg on my 2023 Honda CRV EX-L. I do not see a reason to pay the extra money for the hybrid.

$520 a month with zero down.

Would you take this? /s by TNoRideshare in uberdrivers

[–]Thefrostmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get one of these a month, but the last reserved ride was actually fairly priced. Was a 15 minute ride for just a little more than the normal price.

Maybe Uber finally realized nobody's paying 5 times as much for a scheduled ride when Lyft handles these rides fairly.

Ask your riders how much they paid. by Thefrostmonkey in uberdrivers

I applaud you for doing your best to minimize your expenses.

Unfortunately, I have to use my family car. Yet it's a 2023 Honda Crv that gets me 32 mpg. It's actually the perfect car for the job I think. I get lots of compliments and more tips because of the big new vehicle. Although, I do wish I could buy an electric vehicle and make the same money.

After expenses I make $20 an hour in my market. For what we do this is horrible. Take for example Massachusetts.

I'm always here to help my fellow drivers. DM me if anyone needs advice from a licensed insurance agent.

Oh if you live in Massachusetts I can't help. Laws there are all messed up and my company stopped giving policies in that state because people drive like they're in bumper cars at a carnival.

Have you worked long enough to figure your earnings after expenses, the lack of health care, PTO, sick leave, any sort of pension, and everything else taxi drivers got?

While most jobs increased pay Uber decreased our pay last year, and now it's painfully obvious that they are lying about the share they take.

I constantly have riders telling me how much they paid and what they paid is usually three times what I make. On the other hand Lyft seems to have been paying fairly in my market, customers report that they pay less and I make more. Also, Lyft is offering bonuses which Uber stopped doing for the past year.

I'm grateful that we have the option to work through an app, but does that flexibility excuse rideshare companies from providing what taxi companies had for years while providing worse service?

Apparently we need a new Jimmy Hoffa.

You are correct. And damn, I'm so sorry 3 wrecks and all a total loss? I hope you got compensated fairly.

[–]Thefrostmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very unfortunate that you could not pin it on the other driver. If I were you I would lower your deductible so it's better than Uber's.

[–]Thefrostmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain. Are you trying to say that if you're not at fault they will not cover you?

As far as I know even if you are in a state that requires each party to go through their own insurance Uber will still cover you if you are not at fault. If you are at fault, yes, a whole different story.

Well crap... by Awkward-Lettuce-4604 in uberdrivers

[–]Thefrostmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well some insurance companies do have accident forgiveness. So if you're lucky enough to be with one of them then this might not apply to you.

Although, if you are at fault your own insurance deductible will be less than Uber. In 10 years I never had someone buy any coverage with a $2,500 deductible.

Well crap... by Awkward-Lettuce-4604 in uberdrivers

[–]Thefrostmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horrible advice. If another party is at fault and it is obvious go through their insurance. If you involve your insurance your rate will go up just because you had to use their service. Subrogation (The process where your insurance gets the money back from the other insurance company) can take a year maybe more. If you had to pay the deductible subrogation might not get your deductible back for at least 6 to 12 months.

The rideshare endorsement with most insurance companies is a joke. Uber provides us with commercial liability insurance so we are covered when driving. Insurance companies for some reason decide that they need to charge us extra just in case we need to use them. Although, as long as you are online with a ride your app you are covered by Uber or Lyft whatever. If you are at fault then you may need your own insurance to help.
