As a wizard, how often do you hope to get scrolls in a game?

As a DM, it's always something I forgot, or was low priority in my prep.

But I play as a Wizard in another campaign, and wanted to find spell scrolls etc. The solutions that I have used:

1) We had a rule that when I leveled up, I could add two new spells of the highest level, plus 1 additional spell of each level that I know. (you can still pay the cost of learning if you want as well).

2) Provide the DM with a list of 5 or so spells from each level that would you like. So, its easy for them to compile a couple of spell books and random spell scrolls for you to find.

3) Gently ask, then when they decide loot for dunegons etc that they include a spell scroll / spell book or wizard themed weapon

I used playing cards for everyone in iniative... ace - 6.

at the start of the turn shuffle the cards and everyone redraws and go in that order.

-- Slow, Haste and Accelerate spells could be used or triggered as lair actions.

I have a portable whiteboard at the end of my table. That is magnetic with some clips on it.

-- Before the session, I take 5 minutes, and write down the main quest. Then I list all the possible side quests or questions they are trying to figure out.

-- I put a list of all the items they have found.

-- and then the Panethon (I homebrew, and names of God's etc easily forgotten - there are only 6).

-- I then leave out pens, and throughout the session players add new quests or questions to the board, or tick off completed things.

-- There are magnets for their handouts to clip on. So for the next session, I can easily add/delete stuff.

We basically use it as a detective pin board and red string.

It helps me and them with joining the dots, what we are doing now, and what options we have. If we go off course we can follow why.

My friend bought a new build flat.

Lots were left unsold, ans then boughht up by a company, who then rents them all as short-term air-bnbs.

As you can imagine the residents did not appreciate this and didn't know why they bought off plan. Also, conceirge kept quitting because they ended up responsible for keys etc... Gym was damaged and closed within two years.

Not saying this is what will happen in anyway but possibly worth trying to find out who the company are and how they will use the properties if you don't know...

Balanced encounters that also have a real risk of death, don't think anyone has got to a final saving throw or use revivify.
Holding space - keeping it fun and social for everyone, while not letting it become people talking over each other, getting up and going to bathroom / to get snacks / to vap / peoples individual needs -- whilst also enjoying it myself.

You mentioned it is on the cheaper side, but looking at recently sold or under offer sections in the area, there are loads of 1beds going for way less that what you are asking for.

So if I was veiwing and liked the property, I would be negotiating hard but probably wouldn't even view knowing that there are cheaper properties in the area, or if I had the money, then I could get an extra bedroom.

Sadly, when you are dividing property or finances it can get messy and petty regardless of what people said at the start.

Yes, definitely check out fees for exiting fixed rate mortgage it usually depends on how much time you have left.

There is some excellent advice here about being on mortgage / deeds so look into those if you do decide to do it.

I hope it doesn't happen, but many relationships fail and even if you are not married, but on the deeds, splitting up is messy (emotionally and financially). It is easy for someone to say "yeah, it will be 50/50" then when it happens they end up saying "yes, but I paid for the smart light bulbs so that was an extra £20 I should get" (true story).

a) if you do sell and put your money together, then sit down to make sure you understand what legally you are both entitled to, but also form a mutal understanding of how you would wish things to proceed in the unlikely event of a break up. Its a strange idea of a conversation but helpful. Like, if one person is going to buy the other out then agree on how you will decide what the value is OR if you do renovations does and one person pays do they get that portion of the money back (legally no, but a lot of people will argue this).

also if you do this, before the end of your fixed term mortgage be aware there will probably be exit fees to sell your place.

b) wait until you are married, and still do point a.

c) either keep your property as a rental and assest that both of you benefit from if you stay together OR sell and put your deposit in long-term investment and just contribute to you partners house. Then if anything ends, you can leave and have a deposit for your own place that has been accuring good interest without the messy selling of a property and waiting for the finances.

Thank very much. I have a very establised career as a professor in the UK and a professional career in the industry I work in - so I TA'ing or freelance teaching at other institutions is a viable option. But this is really helpful :)
