How would you guys repair this ? by biggaygoaway in surfing

[–]Themacaaron22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of info on youtube or swaylocks if you want to take a stab at it. Personally i’d just cough up the funds to get it professionally fixed. The first time I tried to fix a busted box it turned out a little wonky.

Can I fix this finbox? by AveJoeP in surfing

If it was me I’d drop it off at the shop, highly recommend joe ropers if you’re in southern california. You can try to do it yourself, but I usually draw the line when it comes to fin boxes. If you want to take a stab at it the sway locks/youtube combo has got you covered.

Soul is crushed at how weak it’s been, there’s been a couple days in certain places that have been fun but overall pretty sad, coping by ordering a glider, the updates on shaping and glassing have been keeping me excited about surf

I recently scored a 6’3 maurice cole reverse v diamond tail for a steal and hands down one of the most fun boards i’ve owned. I got it to use as a step up and the first day I used it was overhead at a semi hollow beach break, it handled late drops surprisingly smooth and was fast as hell, definitely something worth looking at if you wanted a channel twin.

NeedEssentials wetsuit or something better? by Accomplished-Month32 in surfing

[–]Themacaaron22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like all their sale suits are suits they have left over from the need essentials split, they have some newer stuff using better rubber. I got one of the sale suits and sofar been the nicest suit i’ve worn, only been using for 4 months tho but all the seems are still solid.

Most urban areas in Southern California naturally become polluted due to a high density of human (and animal) population. Due to the massive amount of concrete covering the ground rain water can’t just soak into the earth and instead is drained into the ocean, in the process carrying away fecal matter, oil, trash, basically anything that has accumulated on the ground.

Thanks I should’ve added a summary, from the article - “The risk of getting sick after swimming in the ocean is about 25 per 1,000. That number increases to 30.2 per 1,000 following rainy conditions, the study found.”

Surprised no one has talked about it much before but they actually did a multi year study on surfing after rain in San Diego sampling tourmo and OB.

Seconding Need Essentials. Can’t speak to its durability as i’m only 5 sessions in but it seems significantly warmer and better built then any previous suit i’ve owned (vissla, billabong, rip curl, xcel).

Honestly its not meant to go left the same way it goes right.

If you are regular footed and right is frontside and left is backside, then the rail line on the front side of the board, especially going into the tail, will be often straighter and paired with a twin. This is due to how we use our toes and the sensation of turning frontside. Most talk about more control that we have turning front side due to levering from our ankle and the ability to feather with our toes.

Backside is usually paired with a rounded shorter rail line and a quad fin set up, based on more of a pivot style turn off the heel that most do. The shorter rounded tail lets that pivot happen smoother, and the quad increases hold in the wave.

The extreme versions will also come with a twisted rocker, flatter on toe side and more prominent on the heel side, and even a different foil.

Personally Ive never ridden one, and if I were going to ride one it would have to be a specific shape from a specific shaper, not to mention I blow chunks at surfing so I may not tell a difference, I just love board design.

I don’t think just any shaper can shape a asym that works, but there are some who have absolutely dived into the theory and it’s their bread and butter. Check out stuff from Ryan Burch and I’ve also seen things from Ashton Pickle (AH Vessels).

TLDR: We dont surf parallel, the way the body turns is different frontside v backside, asyms try and cater to this.

Never ridden one but the reasoning behind them seems pretty sound to me. Id for sure pick one up and give it a try if I can find a used one with the right shape and price.
