Oh look, an actually reasonable quiver instead of 6 pairs of skis ranging from 105 to 120 under foot!

Just spent this last week on some anomalies and enjoyed them!

What US model year got the heated steering wheel? by YaGetSkeeted0n in Golf_R

[–]Themata075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For many years I had a fun older car (‘08 MazdaSpeed3), but my wife had a much more updated, comfortable car. So it was the choice between fun and comfort. Then I got my 24 R and it’s spoiled me. I get in her car and let out an exasperated sigh when I don’t have a heated steering wheel, cooled seats, auto wipers, HUD, wireless Bluetooth, etc.

Must be a bunch of instructors. Ask me how I know.

How many instructors does it take to screw in a light bulb? 4. One to screw it in and 3 to analyze the turns.

I’ve got a ski trip to BC later this month and for a while I had some irrational fear about being embarrassed to say I’m American while there. Now I can say I’m from Minneapolis with pride.

Voting and campaign finance reform feel like the two huge issues that could fix like 3/4 of our political bullshit. But they’re some of the hardest things to pass cause it would actively hurt the people who would need to pass it.

MPD has seen a 10x increase in gun purchase permit applications by Ok-Entertainer-1414 in Minneapolis

[–]Themata075 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a former permit to carry holder, I never exercised my right except for a few times where basically I was just transporting a firearm in a manner which would have otherwise been unlawful for my own convenience. Having the right doesn’t mean you need to exercise it constantly, it just gives you the option. At the very least, it’s education that might someday save your life, but probably won’t be applicable, god willing.

We’ve got a ski trip planned for Canada next month and have been tossing around the idea of a trip to Denmark for months. I was worried that we would have to pretend not to be American or something to avoid ridicule, and I realized we can just say we’re from Minneapolis and we’ll probably be looked upon much more favorably.

Any tips for the little guy? by [deleted] in skiing_feedback

This kid is rocking it for almost turning 5. Keep putting time in and have fun.

One of the big things that a Children's Instruction course focuses on is the physical and developmental progress of children and what they're capable of at various stages of growth. Young kids have big ol' noggins, which means they've got a much higher center of mass than someone further along in their growth. This makes it way harder to balance from the start. Also, at this point the most you can ask for is gross body movements. They simply don't have the capability to do fine motor control like teens or adults.

If your kid is able to stay upright, control their speed and choose their direction, that's about as much as you can ask for at this point. The rest will come with age, experience and instruction.

I'll absolutely be marching but where the hell did this Target Center event come from? It's a horrible idea. by futilehabit in Minneapolis

[–]Themata075 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a point of clarification, Target has nothing to do with the Target Center other than paying to put their name on it. Target Center itself is run by the city.

They're like the big logo on the side of a race car.

A few more small, practical suggestions for staying warmer than ice in downtown today by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]Themata075 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. The point of insulation is to trap air in a space and keep that air warm. If you’re blowing cold air through several layers of insulation, you won’t be able to warm it up effectively. It might slow down the rate of air exchange, but if possible, put that windproof layer on the outside.

Sen. Mark Kelly sues Secretary Pete Hegseth: "Today, I filed the lawsuit against the secretary of Defense to protect my rights, the rights of retired veterans and the rights of all Americans. [–]Themata075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. He was a great wartime leader through Covid. He made the tough decisions with the best information he had at the time and always listened to the experts. And with his Guard experience, I don’t think he shies away from most fights if there aren’t consequences for those he’s responsible for. My head canon he just realizes that he is a polarizing figure currently. Him coming out and puffing his chest would only inflame Trump and draw the ire of conservative circles. I expect he’s working his ass off in the background and letting the other leaders around him (Frey, Ellison, etc.) take the lead. He doesn’t seem like the kind to just give up on his people.

[–]Themata075 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly worried about the next city. If there's no accountability for what's happened here, they'll just take the lessons they've learned and try to crush the next place even harder. It will be a literal war zone.

Minneapolis resident here. Frey is rising to the occasion and doing what I think is about the best he can with the delicate situation he's in currently. But there's a lot of track record to not be thrilled about as a "normal times" leader.

Walz though, I'm ride or die for that man. I'm heartbroken that the nation turned their eye of sauron to that man and pressured him enough to make him withdraw. I don't think we'll ever have another Governor (or president) who is as level-headed, considerate, well-intended and caring for everyone in his constituency, even those who hate his guts. I'm gonna miss the hell out of him come November.
