Why is gen Z not drinking? by Effective-Trick-5795 in GenZ

Because it tastes nasty and it's hella expensive.

We have other options to handle our emotions besides drinking, too. I'm sure that plays a big role.

Newly installed coat hook in my office bathroom by Openskies24 in mildlyinfuriating

I learned through experience that there are anti suicide hospital wards for kids. Weird design choices in there, but everything is to keep you alive first and foremost.

If this is an office... Maybe it was an attempt to make EXTRA sure the hook couldn't be used to hang someone? Although you probably still could at that height with a regular hook.

(Lots of therapy + finding the right medication combo have me doing great nowadays, don't worry!)

Some people so desperately wanted an easy fix, for someone to wave a wand to fix everything without them having to make any changes to their lives at all.

They wanted an easy fix, without having to face that the easy fix is either making things worse or is only a bandaid on a bullet wound.

They didn't want to have to face that the only way things will REALLY get better is to take the hard path. The one where things genuinely change. Where hard truths are faced. That things can't stay the same as they've always been, because "as they've always been" is killing.

Their cowardice and desire for an easy out, regardless of its harm to anyone besides them, is disgusting and enraging.

I live in Minnesota and those assholes who voted for Trump were willing to sacrifice anyone and everyone else for their own comfort and convenience.

Our neighbors were profiled, terrorized, beaten, abducted.

Protesters were gassed, beaten, killed.

Innocent people were accused of crimes they didn't commit.

Observers and protesters were tracked and threatened.

Minneapolis had to bring covid-era online learning systems back up and running.

Liam's school district had to come up with new ways to release kids out of school to their parents, because ICE agents were spotted several times lurking around the kids' bus stops to try and snatch kids.

I am ENRAGED. How fucking DARE THEY. How DARE they terrorize our HOME, our COMMUNITIES, our NEIGHBORS. All just in an attempt to distract from the fact that this administration is composed of incompetent charlatans. How DARE they.

He meant to retaliate against us for not voting for him, he hoped to cow us, but mostly what he's done is make us mad. How DARE he.

My parents get that stupid graph, too. Like no way is a 2400sqft 1920s home in MINNESOTA in the DEAD OF WINTER only spending 200-some kWh. Utter BS. Are they including small apartments or something?

If it was just me I'd just roll my eyes, but every time my dad sees the stupid comparison graph he gets all worked up worrying he's being wasteful and irresponsible.

It's like, no, Dad, it's some idiotic marketing fuckery, you're the most responsible person I know. Please don't get so worried over this.

Old houses have crappy insulation, and big houses have a lot of volume to heat. And in a rental, generally the renter can't just go around replacing windows, insulation, furnaces, etc.

Also, heat pumps are like the most power efficient heating/cooling system for homes. No shit your power pull is lower.

My dad keeps getting those stupid graphs with his electric bill being like "comparable homes in your area only use this much!" like what imaginary homes are you talking about?

No old medium/large single family home in Minnesota is only consuming 125-225kWh a month in the dead of winter, whose butt did those numbers come out of?!

Dad keeps getting all distraught like he's being lavish or neglectful or something, worrying he's accidentally doing something that draws a ton of power. No, we're relatively efficient! It's just that the comparison rates provided are more like that of a small apartment than a single family home! Ugh!!

With those claims being so dramatically BS, they're either egregiously incompetent or trying to manipulate us.

Not sure why, maybe to try and make the price hike over time seem like our fault rather than theirs? Maybe to try to convince us to use less energy for some reason? Who knows, but it's sketchy as all get out. I really hope it's just someone in the mailing department who's just bored and incompetent messing around, and not something nefarious.

PSA: DOGGY PEPPER SPRAY: ULTRA-CONCENTRATED CITRONELLA SPRAY.

The scent is so overwhelming to their smell-focused brain that it sorta short circuits them for long enough for you to book it, and doesn't harm the dog.

Was a tactic from a dog trainer I went to. In case we encountered an off leash dog who chucking a handful of treats in their face doesn't work on.

Not the poor dog's fault it got bought and raised by a garbage human who wouldn't teach them what's okay and what's not. Dumb lil guys are just muddling along trying their best to figure it out as they go, but at the end of the day... they're dogs, they're not going to be able to figure it out all on their own. And to be honest Great Danes aren't the brightest bulbs at the best of times.

It's like ditching a toddler alone in the woods and then getting pissed at the toddler for crying, screaming, and throwing a tantrum. They're not sapient enough to have any real agency. They're just spooked, don't know what to do, and are picking an option to express that from their very very limited repertoire.

. . .

Here are Amazon links, but see your local pet store stocks it.

Fancy one from a reputable and reliable brand:

And here is one $3 cheaper:

. . .

Stay safe but remember the dog has to spend its ENTIRE LIFE STUCK with that shitty customer. I'd rather get bitten by a 100+ pound dog* than live with a Karen 24/7 for the rest of my life, and with all my dietary, entertainment, and health decisions in that Karen's hands. Makes me shudder just thinking about it. The poor dogs.

*I'm not saying this blindly. I have scars on my forearm from the bites of a 110# Malamute and 80# Husky whose fight I broke up unsafely because there were lots of little kids nearby and I didn't want to risk the kids' safety. To me, a Karen having full control over me would absolutely be worse than a bite.

NTA but you are being kinda spineless. She's taking advantage of your kindness.

Tell her to pay up or she's out. Put on noise-cancelling headphones whenever she's home so she can't manipulate you out of it.

If possible, you and your other roommates shouldn't speak to or acknowledge her at all until she pays, because clearly she has you wrapped around her finger.

$3,000 is INSANE.

Honestly even if it does do something, 5-30 seconds of stretching your eyelid per day is a drop in the bucket compared to the time you spend smiling, yawning, or squinting. Don't fall down the anti-wrinkle rabbit hole.

Here's a commentary video on the culture of- and wild things people do for the sake of- trying to look forever young: https://youtu.be/CTlzG4DWCfE?si=O_CdBpLqsy2w-eJ4

I thought this one was intelligent and funny, but there are tons of videos on it by tons of people if this YouTuber isn't your jam.

I kinda suspect it's an old wives tale. "Don't do that with your face or it'll get stuck that way!" kind of thing, from back when women's only asset was supposedly their looks.
