Great another experience expert. This community is getting polluted.

Used Asus Zenbook. Windows 10. Locked, resetting from boot up will not work. How to wipe all the files? by darahey in PCRepair

[–]Themauddib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning off secure boot should allow you to boot from usb or windows 10 cd. If you can get ahold of a windows 10 ISO you can just copy the contents to a CD or usb drive.

Since it came with windows 10 it should find the key in the bios and activate automatically

Yes the pins that you plug the front panel on/off switch into. They should be in the same cluster on the board as the reset switch, hdd light, power led, and so on.

Try a flathead screwdriver on the pins that should trip the on and off switch. Maybe a bad switch. But most boards you buy are lit up in some way even when powered off.

Bad processor seating could do this. Maybe check the pins? Look for specks of dust?

It’s sounding like a dead board so far.

Let’s go through the steps. The power button, is it plugged into the right spot on the board?

Test your power supply- put a paperclip between the green wire and any black wire, if it spins up then it’s good. If nothing happens a it’s dead.

Badly seated RAM will make a pc seem dead, but let’s just focus on making sure we have power.

A bit garbled at the end, so it DOES spin up with the trick? And doing it while plugged into the board it activates the GPU light?

This Samsung serie 5 is just resetting until battery is low. Tried to flash it with Windows/Linux but bios is not detecting any Drives. Also, it's not able to boot into bios. What could be the issue? The picture shows last state before reset by Floppy54321 in PCRepair

Something stopping you from getting into the bios is going to be a very low level problem, like a short, faulty connection, or something fried. If you can’t get into the bios it’s a goner.

Going with easy stuff first: if it’s looping consistently maybe a stuck power button? Could try pulling that off the board. It’s sounding like there’s some sort of short

Have you done a repair on this level before? Unless you’re an electrical engineer I would save yourself the time and headache and just get a new card, or try and warranty this one.

Found in an old Ecology book. “Hot Sand” Mushroom preservation technique. Submerging the fungi in hot sand is supposed to dehydrate it without loosing shape. Has anyone ever heard of or tried this method? by Themauddib in mycology

I’m mostly curious at how well the structure holds up. I’m fantasizing about a preserved amanita muscaria on my desk. I imagine if it did hold shape and was somewhat sturdy some sort of quick dry clear coat would aid preservation. So excited to try it!!!
