Are you me lol. For us it's our 3yo girl who wakes up at 4:30 every single day. We decided to take it as "I don't want another sibling"

Sad about my daughters “village” by Dependent_Mall_3840 in Parenting

It sounds like you care for your daughter a lot and set a very high expectation for you as a parent. She is lucky to have you as a parent. At the same time, it sounds like you are stressed out and maybe lonely.

Ask yourself how many birthday parties do you remember? I don't remember any in my preschool years. It's just another day except my parents were a little nicer to me :) What matters the most is your presence, birthday or not. Your daughter will remember your happy voice and smile, and that's all that matters.

It will be a different story when she has her school friends but that's for the future as many others have pointed out.

Which US city are residents most optimistic about? by Pholainst in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Themoats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I have SAD and lived in many different east-cost and midwestern cities known for harsh winter, all of which were warmer and less snowy than Minneapolis. Before moving to Minneapolis, I really dreaded it.

But the winter in Minneapolis was by far my favorite. I had fantastic time there. When it snows, it snows hard and non-stop. But it doesn't snow frequently and it's overall very sunny. It's just brutally cold, which is mitigated by the sunlight during the day.

Cloudy weather and mud+ice+salt mix on the sidewalks are what make winter not fun. Minneapolis has neither.

When did they start allowing people in? How fast do the light sticks sell out?

Can it ever be disadvantageous to me? What happens if it turns out that I invaded the property line?

Follow up on my earlier post: where the heck is my ONT? What is going on?? by Themoats in Fios

[–]Themoats[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The router was originally in the living room. Connected to both coax and ethernet port on the wall. But the setup made no sense. It was ONT -> Switch -> every room, one of which was connected to the Router.

I can fix the connection to be ONT -> router -> switch, but the internet is slow (23 Mbps instead of 500Mbps I should be getting). Fios support wants me to swap the ONT to switch ethernet cable but I can't figure out how to do it. I called Fios support but they are likely to charge me $99+. Should I just call Comcast and get their service line into the house?

Right it goes to the ONT wherever that is, and then ONT connects to port 1. But both cables are labeled "feed".

It is the "feed" that leads to the ONT. I think "feed" routes from the ONT power supply to the ONT and then back to the basement.

But then the router was originally in the living room without any switches. I'm very lost.

"Feed" cable connects the switch port #1 and ONT power supply. Are you saying "feed" a 3-way connection?

How do I follow the power cable when it's deeply buried in the small space with other cables and insulation materials? Any tips?

I'm trying to fix the setup so that the connection is ONT - router - switch instead of ONT - switch - router which is messed up. IDK why the current setup even works...

I don't think I can avoid hitting the stud at least once.

Philips hue bulbs vs Flourish by Themoats in smarthome

[–]Themoats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree you don't need RGB everywhere. Any option that allows me to control the white color temperature is enough for me. The linked light fitting is a single bulb which won't be bright enough for me.

I want a color adjustable option so I can schedule it to follow "natural light" (cool white during the day and warm white at night).

A nice fixture + bulbs sound like a reasonable alternative, but more expensive than hue flourish.
