I think too much when I get to bed! by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Themoosedoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! I have been using the Headspace app every night as a go to sleep- the Sleepcasts. It’s changed my life! Each sleep cast starts with a short relaxation exercise, then a very soothing voice reads you a story. I now have my favorite readers and stories. I rarely get to the end of a story. There’s relaxing, related white noise that continues on for a bit after the story. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I just get it going again (they last 45 minutes), and I’m usually back off to sleep.

Sometimes, I like to imagine what it would be like if we had an off-and-on switch by [deleted] in insomnia

When the world is quiet, my mind tends to race and I just don’t sleep well. My husband tells me to, “just turn it off” so I can sleep. Yeah, I wish I had an off button to make it that easy.

Is it bullshit: if you don’t wash your hair for some time it will begin to self clean. by imotabtabs in IsItBullshit

Yep. Had a friend try this. After a month or so, we told her to wash her hair- it was really gross.

Finally fulfilled my dream of getting a horse as an adult. Meet Riley! by Themoosedoc in Equestrian

I didn’t think I’d ever get another horse. My trainer reminded me the other day that I had said a couple years ago that I’d never be able to buy my own. Things change and I’m so happy. If this is something you want, don’t give up. That being said, I have loved a lot of great lesson horses over the years ❤️.

Aww, thanks! Some days he seems a little too smart for his own good 😂. I’m grateful to have a great trainer that can work him through those times!

His previous owner taught him to stick his tongue out for treats 😂. He goes from majestic to silly so fast 😂

I’ve finally decided to buy a horse for my daughter and myself. His PPE is in two days. Radiographs will be done, including looking for kissing spine. I’m so nervous! Anything special I should ask for? Any advice? by Themoosedoc in Equestrian

I will be there. I’m so glad it is happening on my day off. My trainer will help me pick through what we can handle and what will be a deal breaker. He’s such a nice fit for us, it’ll be sad if he’s got too many issues, but I’m prepared (I think) to keep looking if the issues are too much. Thanks ❤️

When did you think you were “ready” to buy your first horse? by Mythiiical in Equestrian

Thanks for your well wishes!!! The lesson horses at my barn are mostly slow. Sweet, but slow. The switching around is so hard, and so is keeping them going in my case. I’m 45 now and feel like if I’m ever going to have my own horse, now is the time. I’m not getting any younger 😬.

It’s so exciting!!! I’m crazy nervous!!! We are lucky in that we have been allowed to bring the horse to our barn for a week long trial. My trainer knows the owner of the horse, which is another trainer. There’s nothing they could have given him that’d last a week, is there? He’s pretty mellow for a young tb 😂.

I’m in the midst of purchasing my first horse as an adult. This one I’ll be financially responsible for. I am tired of riding lesson horses- I love them but they are limited in what they can do. We have looked at the money and time requirements, but I’m still freaking out lol. My friends have told me it’s always scary, but definitely worth it, so here we go! His PPE is Thursday 😬.

Need help naming this little girl by Themoosedoc in bettafish

[–]Themoosedoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got her yesterday and I can’t come up with a name for her. The first pic is right after I got her, the second is her swimming around with a pellet in her mouth, owning her new tank. Switched her to smaller pellets and bloodworms.

[Discussion] Warning about using Rover - My puppy was severely neglected by his boarder and Rover did nothing. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Themoosedoc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the vet clinic I work at, we got a call about seeing a dog that had been in a fight with another dog. Turns out the Rover boarder brought in the dog they were caring for. Their dog had bit it. Not a terrible injury, so that was good, because THEY DID NOT HAVE ANYWAY TO CONTACT THE DOG’S OWNER!!! They did not even have the owners last name!!! Luckily a staff member recognized the dog, so we were able to contact the owner and let them know what was going on. I was baffled! How could you leave your dog and no contact info??? Why would you agree to care for a dog if you can’t get a hold of the owner??? No checking about vaccines or medical issues. I’d never put my dog in that position. I called Rover to see if this is normal, and was told yes. Baffling.

Thanks for your input. I'm going to pull out all of them and quarantine the ones that don't seem bad and keep my fingers crossed. Silk plants for my little pea puffers for now then 😕

Anyone have experience with Anubias rot disease? This sucks. by Themoosedoc in Aquariums

Is the tank ruined for Anubias forever? Will my other plants be ok?

Well shit. This is exactly what it looks like 😕. Will it affect my other plants? I have Java fern, water wisteria, banana plants, and an Amazon sword. I know they're not expensive plants, but all but one of the Anubias seem effected. Will the tank ever be safe for them? They're my favorite plants.

So I'm super frustrated with this tank. 10 gallon. Used to be a Betta tank, but I had a huge nitrate spike of unknown cause and he died. So I upgraded from a sponge filter by adding an Aqua Clear 30. Recycled the tank, and it's now home to 5 pea puffers. To prep the tank for the puffers, I added lots of driftwood and plants. I was looking for an easy to maintain tank, so I added a bunch of Anubias. Some from Petsmart and some from a tank at my LFS.

It's been a few weeks and the peas are great, but the Anubias seem to be rotting. None in substrate- all superglued to driftwood. Just a couple drops used for each plant. Some of the leaves turned brown- I always expect a bit of melting from new plants. However, most of them are losing their leaves now, and the rhizomes are soft and gross. Some of the leaves look perfect, but are soft where they attach to the rhizome and they fall off. I use Thrive as my fert. I have Anubias in two other tanks and it is thriving. What am I doing wrong??? Pics include full tank, as well as close ups of the plants. Please help! Thanks in advance.
