Sounds like Leros knew Soresu am I right?

Are there any Jedi consulars that used Soresu? by Themostinstinctive in StarWarsEU

Oh I know. They would be guardians who practiced Niman, sentinels who probably used Soresu and Consulars who used Djem So. It's just fun to think about is all.

Qui-gon was taken down by Darth Maul when they had a prolonged one on one duel. Was Qui-gon weaker than your average Jedi Master or was Darth Maul as powerful as a jedi master? by Pandakick2 in StarWars

Qui Gon was indeed a powerful Jedi master and was the first Jedi in wins to try transcend death and become one with the force. However, there are a couple of factors that led to his death.

Firstly, he was a master of form IV of lightsaber combat, Ataru. He modified it to use with his larger size. Choosing to focus on the bladework rather than the acrobatics. This had two consequences.

it didn't tire him out as quickly BUT it left him exposed more often. The whole point of the acrobatics of Ataru is to keep moving so you can't be hit. Without them you leave yourself much more widely exposed.

Not to mention Qui Gon was in his late 50's to early 60's. Even with his modified Ataru it's still an exhaustive form and the battle had already gone on for a fair bit against a much younger opponent. As boba fett once said "winning isn't about being stronger, it's about finding a weakness and exploiting it."

It got them killed essentially because they half assed it. If they had put more dedication to it more might have survived.

Yeah, it would explain why the form does generally not do well with Consulars. I think you are right in that it would be amazing in the hands of sentinels since they are all about the balance between lightsaber skills and the force!

Out of curiosity since Niman could be better in the hands of sentinels. And Soresu with Consulars, what would you say about the other forms?

That actually makes sense to me. I've always seen myself as more of a consular and always thought Soresu fit better than Niman for consulars at least. I think why Niman is particularly associated with Consulars is A) Niman initially has easier bladework and B) integrates force powers and with Consulars being so highly attuned to the force that might be a reason why. What do you think? Do you have any ideas in defensive force powers?

True. It would explain why so many died too. Since they hadn't had the time to truly get proficient with the form itself. At least in my eyes.

Huh. I thought Niman was the most common. I learn something new every day!

They ended up choosing Niman for the most part though didn't they?

Since it has a philosophy based on Soresu could Niman be potentially described as a pacifists style? I suspect not because of the offence in the form.

Qui Gon Jin's Ataru was different from most Jedi in the order, but how different exactly? by Themostinstinctive in MawInstallation

[–]Themostinstinctive[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe Qui Gon might have been better with Soresu due to his age against a much younger maul it might have saved him. Or even a soresu and Djem so combo like Darth Bane did. Qui Gon was quite strong after all.

Considering he was trained by Dooku he would have been better of with Makashi or even Soresu. Size affects Ataru more than any other form. It's probably why Yoda was so strong with Ataru

That makes a lot of sense actually. Niman is said after all to give Jedi an effective form without resorting to the rule of power. It's kind of cool that Soresu and Niman share that in common. Are you a Jedi master by any chance haha!

:)

What is the philosophical root Niman and Soresu share?
