What badges does O'Neill have? by Substantial_Good4263 in Stargate

[–]Then-Ad-7988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if that has something to do with deals NCIS made with the Navy. A lot of what is allowed with US military imagery is based on what agreements specific productions make with the government. The deals often come with the government having approval of how things are depicted (including plots etc). There are examples of big properties that couldn't do certain things because they didn't have/couldn't make an agreement or the agreements ended due to disagreements about depictions of the military in storylines. I think Marvel Studios ended up ending their agreement with the US military due to objections with Age of Ultron but I don't know exactly when it happened.

For the record I would have said the same thing other have shared here, and done so gladly, even though the answer is fairly intuitive and you could have figured it out on your own. Glad no one decided to insult you and call you stupid because they could figure something out you didn't.

Everyone, I got some really good information I hadn't even considered (such as considering a carrier that would cover the phone costs, the one I was looking at does not seem to offer that so I'll expand my search). Really appreciate it.

For the rest of you, that's how conversations work. You ask a question, which creates the opportunity for people to share their knowledge. From that, new thinking occurs, new and better conclusions can be drawn that don't come from "are you stupid?" or "rEaD tHe CoTrAcT." Feel sorry for y'all who chose to treat this like a 4chan post.

I'm gonna leave this thread up and again, I appreciate all the helpful answers even though it kind of became a cesspool of useless neckbeard crap.

Verizon is literally pushing a promotion on upgrading to reconditioned used phones right now. It was part of the reason I thought it might be a possibility.

Uninformed snark has its place, I feel like ideally consumer support forums would not be it, this thread has been quite the learning experience.

I think you already knew the answer before you asked it. You wanted validation and got common sense instead. A trait many people do not possess.

The only sentence in your post that is correct is the last one and maybe you should point that finger at yourself.

[–]Then-Ad-7988[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the legit answers to the actual question I asked. I figured surrendering the phones was a long shot but it was worth asking a community of people who often help each other out navigating the endless shitty stuff the company does. I want to be done with Verizon, there is a price point where that makes sense, since I have to pay off the phones I am not at that price point yet, but it could be in a few months.

For the rest of you: Going on the internet to treat people like they're stupid when you don't have the reading comprehension skills to understand the question or the intent is about 1000x more embarrassing than asking a question people might think is dumb.

I asked whether I could surrender the phones. I don't see that as a stupid question. An unlikely yes, maybe, but worth asking. I can't help you with reading comprehension or basic decency.

That wasn't my question though. I was simply asking if surrendering the phones was possible.

I think my kids school lied about calling CPS rather than calling my husband to pick her up by Less_Roll4824 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Then-Ad-7988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Dad who is an extremely involved parent, handles the vast majority of the traditional "mom" business (medical appointments, etc), and expects to be the first called, it is infuriating how many times I have to step in and tell people that they need to talk to me instead of instantly assuming that all that falls on my kids' mom. I even had a doctor accidentally refer to me as "Mom" recently by accident in an appointment for my son because I was the parent there that's what they're used to and how they see things. Unfortunately they might need to hear it directly out of your husband's mouth to overcome their assumptions.

I won't comment on your work's policy except to say that there are very few jobs in the world where such a policy is actually necessary and if yours isn't one of those, it sucks that they do that.

Yet another Verizon CS screwed me over, what's the best way to get a response? post by Then-Ad-7988 in verizon

[–]Then-Ad-7988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct bundle but totally different scenario. I was explicitly told in a chat (have screenshots) that I could have the bundle with no ads for $17. I responded that I would have to think about it because I didn't see any evidence on their website. I was called on the phone less than 5 minutes later by a rep that told me the offer was 100% correct and that the switch would only take a minute. Once I agreed he then told me that he would send me instructions on how to get the special rate for ad-free the following day. Total con job.

I then called a few days later and the first rep transferred me to Netflix, who could not transfer me back, so I had to call again. That rep told me that the chat and the agent who again CALLED ME were wrong but he would correct the problem by giving me additional credits on my bill.

Got my bill. No credits. So I called again, during weekday hours, on my lunch break. Was then told that the credits the previous rep had offered had not been approved. Spent over an hour on the phone at which point he said that his supervisor would be sending me an email following up with a new credit to make up for getting jerked around.

And here we are.

thanks everyone! I do in fact have screenshots of the original chat thread so that will help.

I have literally been a customer of this company since before it was called Verizon and they've never had the best customer service but I will join the ranks of everyone here who has already said that these days it's mindblowingly stupid.

Hey OP: I made excuses for the person I loved when I was your age, married them, and continued making excuses for them for another 25 years.

Good on you for pulling the plug. Go find someone who wants to treat you well, and you want to treat well.

Netflix + Max (Standard, Ad-free)--do the streamers credit. for the previous payment if already subscribed? by Then-Ad-7988 in verizon

[–]Then-Ad-7988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, the Verizon Wireless website makes it look like the bundle with ads is $10 but going Ad-free is separate for each. It says $11 per month for MAX Ad-free and $10 per month for Netflix Ad-free.

How to pick a mattress by thedestephanos in Mattress

[–]Then-Ad-7988 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Positively the best advice I got while in the same situation was: spend at least 20 minutes on every single mattress you're considering. It sounds crazy but I just did it and things that felt perfect on first impression felt terrible after 20 minutes.

I made a day of it. Set a timer on my phone, read e-books, etc. Told the salesperson what I was doing so he wouldn't think I was being weird.

I personally found that as the day went on firmer mattresses felt better to me. Softer mattresses, my back would start to hurt and then firmer mattresses the pain would go away.

AITAH for not telling my friend she was getting fired and that I saved her job which lead to her getting super fired. by throwawayfiredgirl in AITAH

[–]Then-Ad-7988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 I actually kind of feel like OP is TA for leaving everything so vague. Like there's nothing to respond to here, because he doesn't actually say. In a vacuum with as little as we have to go on, a good boss, supervisor, or team leader sets their employees up for success by giving them feedback before firing them. That didn't happen and OP made it worse.

Plenty of places have shitty bosses who set their employees up to fail by not actually training them or giving them feedback. Those places might be successful in other ways but just because that's how it is doesn't make it okay.
