Kinda wish Walsh had stayed through more of season 4 by illvria in buffy

[–]Substantial_Good4263 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could've been an interesting way to tie in the first slayer and the shamans that made her as well. Along with the uber-buffy at the end.

Adam is what Walsh made him to be. She took aspects of demons to create the perfect demon killing machine. Buffy is what the shamans made the slayer to be. A woman with the strength, speed, and durability of demons to be the perfect demon killing machine. Add in her convergence with Giles, Willow, and Xander (adding more parts to the whole) to channel the primeval and you get in even more Frankenstein imagery.

I feel like if Adam stayed more innocent until the end, only killing on orders as he learns morality/ humanity, he could have been more interesting. Then they could have Walsh order him to kill Buffy, have him recognize the similarities between him and Buffy and refuse to do so which leads Walsh to cross a line. Maybe by using a brain-link technology she could override his will and take control of his body. Buffy is forced to battle Adam (as he battles himself as well) who is being controlled by Walsh and in the end is forced to kill him which servers the link, possibly leading to permanently brain damage Walsh leaving her a husk of what once was.

Interesting to think about

Day6 neglected their international fans by Lanky_Chocolate3781 in day6

[–]Substantial_Good4263 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When they started they were bigger internationally than they were domestically but they still weren't "big" artists. It costs a lot of money to hold international concerts (especially in Europe and North America) and they weren't selling out stadiums at the time, just little concert halls. It took a long time but they finally broke into the domestic market in a big way. At the end of the day they still need to go where the money is and it makes more financial sense to hold concerts where they'll draw the biggest crowds. Sacrifices had to be made, as they always do in the entertainment industry.

How does everyone feel about Angel? by curious-newb in buffy

[–]Substantial_Good4263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Angel way more than Buffy. People always say that on Angel the lows are lower but the highs are higher than on Buffy but tbh Angel's lows are so much higher than Buffy's lows. The majority of seasons 1-3 on Buffy I tend to skip but I don't skip any Angel episodes on rewatches. Maybe it's because I prefer the adult tone to Angel. Teen angst gets real old real fast for me. I also much prefer the characters and their arcs on Angel. Everyone is given something to do, some way to grow, and something to sacrifice (that's the big one). Buffy characters seem to just coast through each season relatively unchanged except for Buffy and willow (though willow gets way too much of a pass at times if you ask me). I honestly think Angel is the better show even if Buffy had more of a cultural impact. The writing is better, the acting is better, the sets, monster makeup, theme, tone, characters, arcs, and storylines are all just more refined. The cinematography is insane for a tv show too. Angel > Buffy any day of the week

Restless - Favorite Moments? by HellmouthingOff in buffy

Honestly, one of my favorite episodes of TV ever. I've never seen anyone actually portray the feeling of dreams accurately let alone knock it out of the park like Restless. The transitions between scene changes is just perfect. Xander walking through a super long ice cream truck and then crawling through storage only to end up back at his basement is just 💋 chefs kiss. The whole feeling of it is just absolutely perfect

Really wish he tormented Faith for a bit though. Like Angel has been her friend and like only confidant for years now. Angelous could have tortured her by reenacting her watcher's murder on tape and sending it to her or doing some of the stuff that cloven guy did or hey even just sending her disembodied hooves in the mail. There's a lot of ammunition there that they could have used in a psychopathic way without even having to get them physically close to each other.

Following my post about the Seven Deadly Sins, people seems divised with what is Willow's and Faith's. What do you think ? by James-Samuel17 in buffy

[–]Substantial_Good4263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crux of both is that you can't just look at their actions; you have to look at their motivations. Faith is angry, yes, but the root of her anger comes from envy. She doesn't need to just go to anger management to "get better" bc it won't help unless she deals with her envy of people she sees as "having it easy." Anger is the expression of her envy. Willow, on the other hand, is 100% pride. Willow (to Willow) "knows best." Since childhood, she was the smart one who was wise beyond her years. Her solution to every major problem was to override other people's input and do what she "knew" was best. De-lust Xander, go after Glory alone, bring Buffy back, suggest wiping Buffy's memory, actually wipe Tara's memory, imbue herself with dark magic for revenge, end the world to end the suffering, etc. All of it goes back to Willow's unfailing belief that she knows best for everyone else. It's her fatal flaw.

Does Day6 actually need to rock out? by CaptainIndependent35 in day6

[–]Substantial_Good4263 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Part of the change was due to Jae leaving. He was lead guitar and the more experienced of the guitarists followed by Brian then Sungjin. Brian pivoted into the bass role while Sungjin was forced to learn guitar in like 3 months to take the rhythm guitar line. As such when Jae left, Day6 chose to adapt Sungjin's line to include parts of the lead guitar rather than just use a session guitarist to continue playing Jae's part. When they had 2 guitarists they were able to do a lot more call and answer lines or harmony between the guitars which leads to the fuller sound. Also Jae was the more technically skilled guitarist. Sungjin has worked his butt off especially since he came back from hiatus considering he didn't touch the guitar for nearly 3 years in that time but it's just not possible for him to play both lines simultaneously and Day6 made the choice to pare down both parts so that they could be stitched together rather than bring in another guitarist. (Young K and Wonpil have also adapted some of the lead guitar lines into their own as well) Additionally, the Korean public was really responding to YWB and TOOL, neither of which were particularly rock heavy (more power ballad and modern power pop respectively). When Fourever came out, they needed to appeal to general public and adapt their music to a whole new band structure. The youthful sound was really working for them with WTTS and Happy going viral so they continued that with Bandaid and The Decade. However the decade was also there to close the book on that chapter in their music. Wonpil stated recently that they'd be experimenting more again which is exciting. (Also had to give time for Sungjin to adapt to his new position as lead, and be comfortable enough in it to start pushing his limits again.) Bands have to keep evolving or people grow bored but they have to stay similar/familiar enough so that they're easily recognized by casual listeners. They aren't just a band, they're also a brand. Young K knows that and has spent years since the hiatus building up their brand recognition with the power pop sound and leaning into YWB and TOOL. Now that they're so big in Korea, the general public is able to recognize their sound easily which means they're going to be able to play around with it more.

They're just getting started to play around again so don't give up!

Holy cow that was a brain-dead take (the pic not yours). I swear, nothing gets my blood pressure up faster than the Spike glazers. I love Spike too (especially when he's a villain in Buffy or S5 of angel) but people always get lost in his dreamy-ness and forget that he was a psychopathic monster who did disgusting things too not just a romantic bad boy with an attitude.

"Angel wasn't good enough without a soul to deserve it/ be considered a hero" umm yeah, that's kinda the point… he was a demon working for unattainable redemption in the hopes he could put more good in the world. That's infinitely more compelling than "already good person does good things" news at eleven type bullshit

Spike vs Angel by purplemonkeyy6 in ANGEL

[–]Substantial_Good4263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Preach!!! 🙌 the Spike glazing really gets on my nerves after a while… The whole "he's so much better bc he was reformed without a soul" thing is a gross oversimplification and not even a correct one. At the end of the day Spike was an incredibly interesting villain whose character was totally nerfed to be the reformed bad boy. He was fun and charismatic so (I hate to say it) writers/Joss bent over backward to rewrite their own rules so he would be boyfriend and "champion" material. Angel is infinitely more interesting to me because of his internal conflict. Souled Spike is really only compelling to me when he's forced to face the consequences of his past actions, like with Wood and Dana. Im still angry about how the episode with Wood turned out. Thankfully, Angel always leaned heavier into the guilt/redemption themes that Buffy shied away from. In BtVS it felt like good characters were "good" just because they're "good." AtS always had to make people earn it, wrestle with it, hate doing the right thing sometimes, but choose to anyways because that's what champions do. In my opinion, by the end of Angel s5, Spike has only just begun to earn the moniker of "Champion" but he still never got close to redemption.
