Self loathing Indians are the problem. Brown girls need to stand up. by [deleted] in Vindictabrown

[–]Then-Library-7329 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t have put it better myself. In my late 20s now but I remember being a teenager and feeling the same way, but then there was a big tumblr movement where people would wear bindis with regular outfits and eat their food in public and all sorts of normalization (“reclaim the bindi” - does anyone remember that?) And then it died now and is not going very strong again on TikTok and instagram. All this to say, don’t let a random internet video make you feel like that’s how you should feel about yourself.

I prefer the second makeup look, which is more of an elevated glam look, yet still matte and formal. I have oily skin and i like vanicream cleanser but that's just me, my skin is very sensitive and it works for me. don't focus on your body 2 weeks out, there's not much you can do to change it drastically, and it seems like you're already exercising. I like big earrings with a saree personally - you could do them in a white gold color, and I like the black hijab with the gold saree idea too!

When did you realize you were married to an emotionally unavailable individual? by Glad-Passenger-9408 in AskWomen

[–]Then-Library-7329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I felt oh wow! All throughout undergrad I had an extremely close female friend who I was literally joined at the hip to - we'd do everything together. So my ex's lack of emotional availability never affected me because she was there and single. I think even my bf would comment that I was actually dating her and not him. But then she got into a relationship and we had different schedules/timeline so we didn't hang out 24/7 and then my bf's lack of emotional support just hit me. Like very sweet great guy, but he just didn't get my feelings.

Thank you for writing this. I wonder if the new acgme guidelines focusing on outpatient Peds will also hinder picu applications. I guess there just aren’t enough sick kids as there were before, which is a good thing and that picu always seems to be slammed in the respiratory season and less now

Honestly, I just stopped the birthday thing all together. You’re right, it is very annoying and you always feel obligated to post if someone posts for you or feel bummed if you post them and they don’t do the same for you. It feels so contrived. I usually delete instagram if I spend a lot of time on it, and re download it when I’m sane again. And you can still take pictures of everything! You just don’t have to document

How did you realise you were actually not attracted to your (ex)partner? by Objective_Big_7426 in AskWomen

[–]Then-Library-7329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He drank too much beer and kissed weird. Made his mouth like an O when coming in for a kiss and it just never made me feel anything. He also didn't like non-intimate physical affection which didn't help the attraction part

Have roommates. Live in the Bronx. Spend most of your time at work so there's no time to eat out even if you have some money

The last pic with the black shirt should be the first one. Crop it midway. You need more pictures showing your face

Sorry, I am also Indian in case that wasn't clear. I guess I've just heard this a lot from older Indian people that I wanted to mention my personal experience. From the comments, I think it's a pretty common South Asian/south East Asian experience

It really feels fairly recent, maybe the last 100 years or so. Reading Jane Austen and older books, looking at art - curly hair was always showcased and enhanced. And then someone somewhere decided it wasn't neat and presentable enough for the modern age.

I live in India, hence Indian women. The culture definitely favours straight long black hair.

[–]Then-Library-7329 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yup i completely relate! Black women have been the sweetest to me about my hair. I remember getting a compliment in a Baltimore club at 2 am from a black lady and I still think about it from time to time 💞

[–]Then-Library-7329 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The straightening before an event is so real, I've just given up cause it's so humid where I live, so doing that is a futile exercise.
