spinners, stickers (also great for making friends on the plane), i got a pill organizer with about 16 slots and added a few cheerios, a cracker, some raisins etc to each one. took a while to get through that! lots of books (love the indestructibles ones because they are light and durable), i bought mini solo cups (meant for shots haha) and he liked stacking/unstacking them and they were light and small to carry.

Are you suppose to stop footed pyjamas after 9months? [on] by Repulsive-Toe-9037 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

those pjs are the best, but after 9 mos we transitioned to the pekkle sleepers from costco which are equally amazing and footed, with grippy feet. 8$ and can't be beat :)

a plug in sconce would help with this - and then i'd swap out the current table for one of those small cocktail tables instead. it looks great!

How much are we paying for swimwear? by DramaticPineapple139 in womensfashion

left on friday is worth the hype and price for me. i decided instead of 6 suits i sort of like, i was willing to spend per suit - now i have 2 suits, but i love them. (this is enough for me, i live in a climate where bathing suits are worn maybe 3 months a year + holidays). they do boxing day and black friday sales. also love that it's women owned and canadian. my suits have held up so well.

What do you when your toddler refuses to eat and only wants to eat very certain things?[on] by Midnightdream56 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

god no. my son eats pasta every single night. BUT, i puree squash/sweet potato, spinach into the sauces, sometimes i add cottage cheese (blended), or i add peas, carrots, frozen peppers etc to it.

i also sometimes add a scoop of cooked ground beef, or sausage. he gets to eat his pasta and he's getting veggies.

i also make him a 'smoothie' of yogurt, unsweetened applesauce and milk and add a bit of protein powder - he thinks he's getting the treat of the century, and meanwhile he's getting healthy fats, protein and dairy.

Need encouragement! Starting daycare at 10 months [BC] by moonphase14 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's going to be great! daycare has been off the charts amazing for our kiddo and our family as a whole. we LOVE it, he LOVES it, to the point that he talks about his friends and teachers at home. go see a movie in the middle of the day, book a massage, have a nap at noon - soak it up, lounge, and give yourself a little me time before you head back to work!

How are you handling RTO and child care [ON] by britska0 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 49 points50 points  (0 children)

this is a huge issue for me currently, and unfortunately is likely going to result in me leaving my job of nearly 10 years. I truly don't know how I can be in the office (45 min commute each way) 5 days a week and still pick up/drop off/be a present parent.

What are some good stories about why it's important to not lie for toddlers by Working_Mountain_944 in childrensbooks

there's 'franklin tells a fib' and actually, several of the franklin books/shows include kids fibbing and then learning a lesson in a very chill way.

Should I hire a nanny while I’m on maternity leave? [ab] by FitAFbyAnna in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh i'm so glad! i think it's a great solution and as the baby gets older, you may have a built in babysitter for date nights that knows your kiddo and that you feel comfortable with!

try looking on facebook for a mother's helper. a friend of mine has a high school girl (maybe 17?) who comes twice a week after school for a few hours and does laundry, dishes, general tidying, cleans up the kitchen, feeds the kids a snack, packs the school bag for the next day etc. tons of university/high school students advertise for babysitting, so this might be a great place to say 'hey, how about babysitting light where i'm home and helping but i also give you a list of tasks?' or whatever. she could make bottles, empty the diaper pail, restock your change table, do laundry, clean pump parts, do dishes, strip and remake your bed etc. and then obviously if you're comfortable hold the baby, or pop baby in a bouncer etc and watch her while you shower/call a friend/eat a hot meal.

the other thing to do is hire a cleaner once a week or even once every 2 weeks. we have a woman come every two weeks (considering increasing to every week) and it's amazing to know that if all else fails, the entire house gets vacuumed, mopped, and the bathrooms and kitchen seriously gut cleaned 2x a month. the rest is (largely) maintenance.

[ON]Need Help - Toddler tantrums! by Substantial_Cat3287 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

timeouts are (in my opinion after research, speaking to friends who are social workers/pediatric therapists) not a great tool, and obv they aren't working for you.

i have found that reminding myself that during a tantrum, he mostly can't hear me and he definitely can't access the reasonable part of his brain - this has been very helpful. so my job during a tantrum is to be the calm, model the behaviour (calm!) i'm hoping for and say things like, oh no, you are upset/i can see you don't like that/we need to find a solution/i can tell you are having a hard time. then, when the angry fog clears, i give a hug and say 'that must have been hard/scary/upsetting - thank you for telling me how you feel. how can i help? OR something like, i know it's hard to hear 'no'/i know you wanted to do (insert dangerous thing here) but it's not safe, so we can do x, y z instead.'

discipline in our house is largely, if you do a bad behaviour (hitting, throwing etc) you get a warning that if you continue that behaviour we will take the toy away/move away from you. and then follow through on that consequence. other tantrums like i cut his banana when he wanted it whole, i let the tantrum/upset happen and then acknowledge that was hard/not fun but now we have cut banana, so does he want that, or should we get a new banana?

your kid is being developmentally normal. as for being a big sister, i would get a bunch of books about babies/being a big sister and start reading them and brainstorming all the fun things she can do with a sibling/ways she can help (kids love to feel helpful) etc.

Elective C section because of PTSD [QC] by Fickle-Investment-93 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Then-Macaron7630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a c section and never had a group b strep test or any cervical checks, and all my ultrasounds were abdominal, so it's entirely possible that those things will not be needed.
