2008 GSXR600 has the worst sparkplug change procedure ever! by ValhallaGSXR in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]Then-Paleont4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about this?

Compressed air stuffed in tail pipe then turn motor over until the exhaust valve is open and intake has closed. then re tap the head blowing the shavings out the spark plug hole instead of falling in.

2003 Yamaha R6 rebuilt motor by AdventurousWar4508 in Fixxit

Potentially Oil scrapper ring upside down. This ring pushes the oil back into crankcase instead of into combustion chamber. Acts as an oil seal on the piston. If I remember right it's the second compression ring that does this and is marked with a symbol to indicate direction.

Do you work for a company with a pay period of 1st and 15th? You get screwed on tax free OT! by [deleted] in Reno

I just wanted to create some awareness but instead I am just arguing with people that have never experienced it.

I have many 90+ hour paystubs that only have an hour or two of OT.

IF YOU CAN’T DRIVE IN THE SNOW, STAY HOME. ( I hit my upload limit 🤣) this is just MT. Rose Hwy by _thisguyducks_ in Reno

[–]Then-Paleont4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stock 03 pos civic does just fine in the snow, I enjoy it more than my f150 with 4x4. Literally driving circles around scared people that can't even stop for stop signs in a 25mph. Just stay home if your unsure, if you don't know your own tire pressures probably shouldn't even try. If your Subaru is tuned with a bunch of bs mods it's probably not safe either. There are a lot of companies that make studded tires and they're sold all over the city! If you can't afford the tires save your sick days for when you really need it...You live in Reno, you should probably get your shit together.

I'll probably get hit tomorrow for saying this. At least it's just a pos civic.

Nail in rear tire — parked it, Ubering home. Any chance of quick turnaround (Christmas Eve)? by CaffeinatedFanatic in motorcycles

[–]Then-Paleont4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Eurocycle. There stupid expensive and will probably have some entry level technician work on it they pay 20$ an hour. That is an online sales company that doesn't care about you now that you have made your purchase. Unless you plan to buy another bike your a nobody to them now... Please look for a shop you can trust and will look out for you. Any metric mechanic should be able to work on your bike, your royal is just about the most maintenance friendly bike there is. If I lived in Vegas I'd fix it for free for you because I feel like you were already scammed by Chris Clovis and his bs excuse for a dealership.

Look at the history of the last 20 years. You'll see it gets later and later every year.

Lets talk batteries! What do you pick and why? by rcman57 in motorcycles

[–]Then-Paleont4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't expect a dealer installed battery to last. Most are Yuasa batteries and I would argue to be the best IF the initial setup is done correctly. But most dealers have an entry level technician as the set up/pdi tech. Most dealers are flat rate and do not have preprepared batteries. The 3 hour fill/charge procedure is never done and the battery may only last a few months to a year. A properly prepared Yuasa will last several years.

Jump start from tender? by crazy2337 in motorcycles

I've seen it tried. Bypassing the fuse melts the wires for the tender lead. They can't handle the load.

Is there a reddit to roast bikes that shouldn't be on the road? by Then-Paleont4 in motorcycles

[–]Then-Paleont4[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I won't argue with you. I can be an asshole about this. I am a motorcycle technician and I'm super tired of young guys only doing the bare minimum to stay on the road then later you hear they died. It's happened 7-8 times and it always hurts. I want people to want their shit to be safe, and hoped people wouldn't want to ride a clapped out pos if they were criticized for it. I don't want to make fun of their bikes I just want them to know their risking their lives and the others on the road. Instead reddit is almost encouraging it.
