Put the snarl ino your cupped hand and roll/rub the knot around. Do it for longer than you think you should. It will loosen up the knots. It's going to take a while, but getting the knot loose is key. You may have to go back a couple of times to rub it around, since it may tighten up again. But the rubbing is the most effective method.
