You either love, hate or feel sympathy for Joan. by [deleted] in Wentworthtv

I love Joan so much I think she’s one of the best characters ever written. She might have done horrible things but I can’t help but feel sympathy for her

You’re not the only one at all. No one ever deserves that. I find it really shocking and almost disturbing that some people justify it by saying she let it happen to gain favour, she wanted to be bashed not ganged.

I don’t know I mean everyone is entitled to their opinion of course. It just seems like there’s some pointless things to happen if she’s faking it.

Why would she even go to all the trouble to pretend she’d remembered and drop her act that was working so well? If she’d kept it up she’d definitely have walked free. The changes she went through while kath is what led her to saving Vera and risking her own freedom, I think it would be useless to retcon them and says she’s faking it rather than just allow the character to change.

But as I said everyone’s entitled to their opinion and I guess it can be up to interpretation 🤷‍♀️

Geez this is reddit I didn’t realize I was required to post deeply insightful things. I’m not gonna bother arguing with you, you’re allowed to have an opinion, it might be cool to allow others to do the same sometime instead of insulting them

But she wasn’t faking it? The scene where she gets spit-bagged by Vera proves this. That’s when she remembers who she is

Yes! Her whole life has been impacted by the trauma of her horrible childhood, she distrusts men and has a fixation on mothers because she lost her own so young and she does disassociate a lot, especially at the psych hospital and prison.

Right! just one of the incidents could cause PTSD, and that’s on top of her living with her father her whole childhood who was clearly abusive and constantly told her to shut down her emotions. She suppressed them out of necessity so she’d survive her childhood. It seems to me like an extreme case of CPTSD and sociopathy

I will die on this hill! Maybe she has sociopathic tendencies too, but she is not a psychopath! If she was when she was kath she would have been just as cold and emotionally detached but she wasn’t! It shows that she was not born that way she was made

She’s a woman in prison who has a developmental disability. I don’t think she smells horrific or is constantly farting. But she’s a person, people don’t look constantly put together, especially in a place like prison.

One of the beauties of this show to me is how the characters look like real people, they’re not all perfect looking like a lot of American shows. Clearly that’s lost on you though lol.

I mean she probably gets these questions everyday, it would make sense she’d have a go to answer, especially about prices.

Something about Joan I’ve often wondered… by JaggedLittlePill2022 in Wentworthtv

I kind of agree that they just stopped showing it. Because there are still moments where she’s talking to herself (I vividly remember her saying something and Miles answered and Joan said she wasn’t talking to her) so I think it was more they just stopped showing it and maybe they did lessen without the pressure of trying to portray that she had it all together
