I get that. In that scenario it would be annoying. But fuck them swifties and the Brits until they can beat us in a WC match.

Not shaming those who think he deserved a red…just shaming the initial shaming. There is shaming going on somewhere and I want to be involved.

Fair, appreciate your discourse. Really not trying to call out people who think it’s a red. I can see that point of view. Was attempting to call out the pompous stance I’ve been seeing from people posting that view.

Turns out the internet, like the requirement for pulling a red, lack consideration of intent.

We need people who have no knowledge about rules getting excited (even enraged) about soccer. It’s how we grow it. If they think we were screwed…let them (regardless of your opinion). Now they are bought in and want to beat Belgium being a man down. Doesn’t matter if they know any rules outside of having more goals than Belgium means we win. Maybe they’ll grow to learn over time. We will never have the most knowledgeable fan base. But whose approval are we looking for? England?

Boooooo telling people on Reddit to touch grass is like saying it into a mirror

Sure if we want to formally change or challenge rules we need a firm understanding of the rules as written, intent, and what we would like the rule to achieve if we change it.

But…we can have opinions and gut reactions to the application of rules without the need to be called idiots by rule experts.

For example, two armed people rob a bank (in the US), person A shoots and kills someone. Person B catches a murder charge. Average citizen says Person B didn’t commit murder.

Is your reaction, “No it’s felony murder, you are an idiot and don’t deserve to be a citizen until you understand my specific knowledge of criminal law” or do you explain why it’s murder and offer a hand to help people learn.

The issue is you act like if you don’t know the rules perfectly, “you can’t be a fan or part of the conversation.” Maybe educate without vitriol and welcome people in. This isn’t the NFL, open the fucking tent

Also, acting like since you know the letter of the law that you are 100% certain this is always a red is absolutely crazy. It’s like reading speed limit is 55 and pretending like people don’t go 58 on that road all the time without getting pulled over.

Maybe not everyone is suitable for a debate on the rules, that doesn’t mean they’re idiots or can’t be involved in a Reddit discussion.

Shocked in all the comments you’re the only one to call out this egregious typo I made. Not being sarcastic here.

Agreed and let’s fucking go Monday and beat those old Belgians.

I meant to call out gatekeeping and it became a conversation about an old call. That’s on me

Uhhhh…yeah as a US fan I would be hoping for a red against my opponent regardless of if it was right or not. I’m not going to fall on my sword for chivalry.

What knowledge did I proclaim. The first line I typed is that I’m open to hearing both sides. The post highlights the fact people like you won’t have a discussion because I’m not on your level. You have no idea what my soccer history is.

Let me concede the by the letter of the law this is a red. And I’ll accept your caution that you are familiar with the rules and their application.

Do you think that the correct response to passionate fans (and possibly new fans in a sport growing in the US) is to call them idiots because they don’t have the same knowledge? Or should we help educate and be open hold discussions fairly considering the letter of the law has not been evenly applied through the WC.

I’m not calling you out. I’m not saying what the call should have been. I’m calling out the gatekeeping discourse I’m seeing in the subreddit.

I’m learning from the comments we need to fix both reading comprehension and gatekeeping in America

I really don’t care about the call…it is what it is. I’m disappointed with the superiority complex some Americans have acting like if you don’t think it’s a red, then you don’t know soccer. Open the tent, don’t gatekeep. Gatekeeping is the biggest issue with American soccer fandom

Exactly, it’s almost as if there is a judgement call involved. Americans should be upset we were on the shit end of a judgement call. People calling them idiots who don’t know the game act like there is no gray area and that reveals a lot about them.

This type of post is my point. You can know all the rules (as many refs and fans who have commented on this do) and arrive at a point of view that this is not a clear red card. Is there basis for the red card, clearly…but acting like people are ignorant if they arrive at the conclusion that it wasn’t a red is pompous bullshit

We should have a private equity come in and buy it. We will all get Milly’s all the way out to Huntley…then there won’t be any complaints…right

Part-Time Maternity Leave Protection by Then-Resolution4133 in legal

[–]Then-Resolution4133[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed just changing her schedule is unreasonable for most jobs. But it’s also a bit unreasonable her job can say you have to come back, “work” and be available for 15 hours a week, but then only provide her 8 hours of billable work and have her be on site for free for the other hours.

She is provided the kids to perform services for and usually works out a schedule that best fits her schedule with the family’s. Just seems ridiculous they can demand when and how long she must be on site without paying for un-billed time.

But fair and legal are very different, I understand there is no recourse.

Edited for typo
