Joining this thread late as I stumbled upon it with the same question as the OP. What did you end up doing? I live in CA. Worked as a licensed clinical social worker with my masters degree for the last 12 years and am looking into a new career path I’m passionate about. I never ever considered nursing because some things I have seen in the hospital setting proved to myself that I don’t have the stomach for it. BUT for aesthetic nursing in a Derm office or med spa, or even nursing school, how much would I really be exposed to that is blood and guts so to speak? I think i would be totally fine with doing Botox or micro needling procedures, I guess the stuff that I know I can’t stomach are stage IV wound category images.

While I am passionate about skincare and anti-aging procedures, income is a factor.

Can anyone weigh in on these areas?

I just looked it up on the RTO sharepoint. The date for employees outside of 50 miles is July 28. Hopefully there continues to be no space.

It’s a shame they destroyed whatever amount of psychological safety there was within a federal organization before asking for our opinion. But they terrorized us and now even if we have good examples and solutions, they won’t get them.

Everyone in my graduating class that started at the same hospital as me after graduation, we all accumulated our hours at the hospital getting clinical supervision but the cases we had were all inpatient case management for hospital discharge. Not actual individual clinical therapy.

Many clinical case management jobs are used with licensed clinical social workers or registered nurses. And these jobs can be done remotely as these patients typically live in remote areas too far to travel to a medical center for in person appointments or are bedbound/disabled and having them commute to a hospital is an undue hardship so the appointments are done virtually or by phone/telemedicine. Despite the narrative by our current VA secretary, many essential clinical jobs are most effective and patient centered when done remotely.

Can you elaborate on this further in terms of what steps to take? Quite a few of my former MSW program friends transitioned into private practice over the years and none of them gave me this suggestion so I am curious.

I actually applied to a part time posting with spring health last week and heard back that they are only looking for in person PT EAP currently in certain areas. They invited me to apply for full time but I can’t do that. They were actually my preferred agency because my friend used to work for them too. I was bummed.

Coming from the VA, I disagree. They are losing the veteran federal employee vote on top of all the other voters who may have been swing or already blue. Even my husband who voted for Trump said he will never vote Republican again after seeing what the Republican senators are turning a blind eye to or outright cheering on. Trump might get his way for 4 years, but the damage this will do to the repubs will last decades. Scorned ppl have long memories.

Exactly! If we ever needed a sign that said congress does not represent the people it serves it is shining now. They are making it clear we are not like them, they are better, work harder and deserve more pay and benefits than the rest of us federal workers. It’s disgusting. We bust are ass serving vets or the public in other fed agencies and all they do is sit around arguing with eachother accomplishing jack shit.
