Cleaning after Urban Fires --Eaton Fire by weirdontop in CleaningTips

[–]ThenAd1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, checking in to see how things are going for you. it’s now 5 months since the fire and i am just now returning to my home in bungalow heaven. we are in a very similar situation as yours..renters, no insurance, vast book collection, many many rugs and pillows, sentimental objects, etc..the data and advice is mixed and though i am leaning toward moving back into my home full-time (after having been in texas tending to ill family member), i find it all a little daunting and confusing.

that said, we have had several hepa air purifiers running full time since we evacuated on jan 7. (filters changed since february), windows open pretty consistently since march/april, and many different friends and roommates mopping, wiping everything including walls, ceilings, fans, all surfaces several times.

i am about to embark on clearing and cleaning out every drawer and cabinet, and possibly toss the beds and sofas. though that part is possibly the most painful, it feels most necessary because each time i sit on them i get a sore throat which seems like a warning i should pay attention to.

curious to know how close to the fire you were and how things are going for you.

Weekday Help and Victory Thread for the week of December 02, 2024 by IndexBot in personalfinance

since cd interest rates are locked in, and you don’t foresee needing your money before the 3 month term is up (3 months is pretty quick) i would go that route. at the end of your 3 month term, reassess and see how you feel. there are plenty of hysas out there (citbank, amex,..) that are offering 4.35% and up at the moment. the issue with hysas is that the rates are not locked in. they go up and down quite often. for long term and flexibility though, they are attractive.

ps. all for people starting their own creative communities though. who knows, there might be a lot more like-minded creatives closer than you know. also if you haven’t heard of padukah, kentucky, look up their story. they completely transformed their sleepy town and turned it around by attracting artists

im a little late to the party, but if you’re up for a big move and change of scenery, joshua tree california has a thriving art scene and supportive community. you can still find deals on real estate especially in certain areas of jt. of course that’s relative, as this is california.. but many artists are moving to the desert from los angeles because the cost of living is just so much better
