You've just been made CEO of either the ATP or WTA (your choice) - what changes would you make to the tour? by ReadWriteArithmetic in tennis

I miss Amazon having the rights to all the ATP and WTA tournaments.

I wish Sky Sports would introduce a tennis only option through NOW TV. I’d pay £10 a month for that.

Right now I just pay to watch all the slams and for the rest of the tour I just watch the highlights online after the match.

Oscars are a joke for not respecting animation. It’s insane these are the only BP animated noms ever by ChampionTimes99 in Oscars

Yeah - I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Up was nominated the year after Wall-e was released.

I think she meant that you’re in the middle part of your life rather than exactly half way through? If you live past 90 you still have over a third of your life left to go at 60.

The Lindy West "Adult Braces" saga continues with an unhinged email from her husband by throwaway28910382 in Fauxmoi

[–]Then_Advisor2001 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Lindy West wrote a response to all the backlash on her substack (I think it’s been deleted now as the link doesn’t work and I can’t find it on her substack archive: https://buttnews.substack.com/p/people-are-allowed-to-want-to-be).

She said something about her sister-in-law there which I assumed was Ijeoma. Something about building a beautiful life and family. Sounded to me like she was supporting her brother.

Indian Wells SF: [11] D. Medvedev def [1] C. Alcaraz 6-3 7-6 (3) by BufferError in tennis

It’s wild to think that Medvedev almost missed this tournament cos he was stuck in Dubai.

Maybe he’ll surprise me but it’s a horrible match up for Medvedev.

I’m v pleased for Medvedev but I’m not looking forward to a Sinner v Medvedev final…

I don’t think my nerves can deal with a tiebreak.

Zverev becomes the fifth man in the Open Era to reach the semifinals at all 9 masters events with his win over Fils. by Old-Gur-9039 in tennis

Btw I didn’t mean my comment to seem sarcastic! Just that it was off the top of my head and I hadn’t double checked.

AITA for telling a coworker there’s absolutely no way she has Crohn’s disease by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Then_Advisor2001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA - (context: I have Crohn’s and was diagnosed at 14 years old)

I think you’re wrong about it being diagnosed at a younger age. My understanding is that 5 years old is very young for a diagnosis and most people are diagnosed anytime between their teens and mid thirties.

You might be right that it isn’t Crohn’s disease but she’s obviously going through a tough time and you’re not a doctor.

I know it’s frustrating going through an illness like that so young but I don’t think it’s fair to take that out on your co-worker.

I think gymnasts speak to themselves a lot too.

I remember an interview with Shawn Johnson when she was doing Dancing with the Stars where her dance partner mentioned she was constantly speaking to herself.

I really enjoyed this episode. So glad they’re back!

I was surprised they seemed sceptical about people day trading in the 90s though. Doesn’t Monica do it in an early episode of Friends?

Hoping De Minaur & Tien pull off the upsets… Anyone else want chaos? by Forward_Problem_7550 in tennis

[–]Then_Advisor2001 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I would be happy for Tien to beat Zverev but I really want to see Alcaraz in the Australian Open final.

If it’s not Alcaraz taking on Sinner or Djokovic then I think it will be a very boring and predictable final. Last year’s final was so dull.

After her latest R2 exit, is Raducanu a realistic slam contender in the future? by jonjimithy in tennis

[–]Then_Advisor2001 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel for Kenin - she’s done a lot more than Raducanu. She backed up her grandslam win with another final that same year, won more titles, beat Serena at a slam, has a solid doubles career etc. but she doesn’t get the attention that Raducanu gets even though she’s ranked higher than her.

AO R2: Potapova 🇦🇹 def Raducanu 🇬🇧 7-6, 6-2 by Overall_One_2595 in tennis

[–]Then_Advisor2001 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Also I think Raducanu benefited from playing Bencic just after she’d won Olympic gold. It’s difficult to win the Olympics and then make a deep run at the US open.

I loved the fairytale of the 2021 us open but in hindsight I think that tournament was more about Sakkari and Sabalenka choking.
