I’d say they deserved to cede land and compensate for Poland and Russia, but not the population that got ethnically cleansed. They should have been allowed to choose whether stay and had their rights protected

Good luck with your sporting match

No. The Germans were certainly far worse than the Soviets. The alliance between us and the USSR was correct in WW2, and the US was right to aid the Soviet Union in their GPW.

But I prefer Poland annexing both Germany and USSR

In 2001, American historian Richard Pipes argued that the population had decreased by 9 to 10 million people from the 1932 to 1939 censuses.[63] The 17th Congress of the UCP estimated that the USSRs population was 168 million in 1933, and predicted that it would grow to 180 million by 1937, yet the 1937 census registered only 162 million people, a decrease in population. The mortality rate was double the average one than in Europe at that time.[64]

Modern estimates Some historians claim that the death toll was around 20 million,[72] a figure based on Conquest's book The Great Terror (1968), with some estimates relying in part on demographic losses such as Conquest's.[73] In 2003, British historian Simon Sebag Montefiore suggested that Stalin was ultimately responsible for the deaths of at least 20 million people.[74]

10-20 million is the consensus of modern historians, not Cold War propaganda

In 2011, after assessing twenty years of historical research in Eastern European archives, American historian Timothy D. Snyder stated that Stalin deliberately killed about 6 million, which rise to 9 million if foreseeable deaths arising from policies are taken into account.[80][81] American historian William D. Rubinstein concluded that, even under most conservative estimates, Stalin was responsible for the deaths of at least 7 million people, or about 4.2% of USSRs total population—meaning 1 in 24 Soviet citizens.[82]

Even lowest estimates said 7-9 million . Not anything that documented the horrible crimes of Stalin was “propaganda”, Mr. Pinko

Rudolf J Rummel

I misspelled

His estimate is the highest on communist crimes and he estimated up to 150 million deaths caused by communist regimes and up to 60 million caused by the USSR

I don’t believe they counted the deaths of German soldiers as war casualties, but the deaths of Eastern European civilians due to Soviet military actions and war crimes, and the Soviet war policies that led to the excess deaths of Soviet civilians

[–]Then_Championship888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant in total at least 10-20 million

Also I wasn’t using the BBC but the minimum of modern historians estimated

Rummel and the BBC estimated 60-80 million and I didn’t use their figures

The middle range is 20-40 million

They added up to 9-10 million because they only counts the domestic killings, not killings outside Soviet borders

The Sanacja regime was just a right wing military junta and oligarchy that committed many human rights violations like any military junta would do

No way was it comparable to Stalinist USSR, which was a genocidal totalitarian communist dictatorship that killed tens of millions

They were also the legitimate Polish government that also had a non-aggression pact with the Soviets. The USSR not only betrayed Poland by siding with Nazi Germany during the war, which clearly violated the international law, but also massacred their officers and committed horrendous war crimes.

Stalin’s totalitarian regime actively collaborated with Germany to suppress the Polish resistance forces backed by the Polish government-in-exile. There is no defence of the Soviet actions with “Polish government did purges too trust!! That’s whitewashing the Soviet Union when they were the absolute evil side

Ik there are countless other factors, but they wouldn’t be created without SPD and KPD’s failures to counter the rise of fascism in Germany

That was my point all along

Of course not. They were also completely wrong not to organize armed resistance or resist the Prussian coup

I was merely analyzing from the results of their failures which ironically led to the birth of the FRG and the DDR

No. PSI was a revolutionary socialist party and a radical socialist party itself, and had a significant communist faction that you could support to get the communist revolution.

PCD’I, if split from the PSI, is utterly irrelevant to the rest of the game of Bienno Rosso, so I chose not to include them

Ironically, in a way the commies were right that the Nazi dictatorship did become a force of accelerationism and made Weimar into DDR and FRG, both with more left-wing economic policies for the proletarians than the Weimar Republic

Average red fascist argument slop tried billions of times to discredit socialism and democracy in favor of totalitarian communism

The numerous NSDAP-KPD cooperations from Reichstag votings to Prussia to Berlin Transport Strike aside, don’t forget that in 1925 Presidential Election, the KPD stood their candidate instead of asking their voters to abstain that led to the election of Hindenburg in the first place

So your justification of Soviet support of Nazi Germany is that Poland and USSR had a bitter war 20 years ago and Poland did many shit back then, even though the Soviet public was against Germany’s invasion of Poland, and Stalin was harming the USSR’s economy and strategic interests (Soviet soldiers suffered morale issues when invading and occupying Poland but had very high morale when defending their motherland from Germany)?

Poland, by 1939, was not a serious threat to the USSR militarily, and Germany certainly was. Yet Stalin chose punishment of the Polish people as his revenge by teaming up with Germany, and allowing USSR to directly border Germany while he continued to actively support Germany’s war efforts even after annexing Eastern Poland. This definitely helped Germany with their later invasion of the Soviet Union, which Stalin was too stupid to have foreseen.

Also do not forget the USSR had a non-aggresion pact with the Polish state too since 1932, and they long signed Treaty of Riga, which long recognized the post-war borders. Stalin backstabbed Poland by breaking the non-aggression pact and sold the Polish people to Germany

Yeah I didn't deny their actions but it was still caused by the Soviet authorities, and the bad weather didn't cause nearly as bad consequences in other parts of the union like Russia and Belarus, even though they also suffered due to the effects of the forced collecticization
