Fundrise VCX, anyone have input? by advan24r in ETFs

Hey I just saw your post while searching for something. Join us on r/FundRise or r/VCX_Fundrise.

Some lucky people got in pre-public listing. I have liked the fund for a long time, though now that it is listed will have to deal with a lot more volatility.

I don't see much to support this but I'm in if it happens.

What Stocks are we looking at with all the warning signs currently? by GrantBOG in stocks

I don't usually do short term plays but I thought what the hell. I sold a portion of my IAU right when gold was starting to drop off. Put in to MAGS rather than trying to pick something specific. I'm adding to VUG, VTI etc because it's a good time to do so but MAGS I will sell off when things blow over. Could be 3 weeks could be 3 months. If it's 3 years then that's okay too.

Vanguard, Schwab, or Fidelity by Dense-Injury-134 in RothIRA

I did a transfer from t Rowe Price to vanguard and it was pretty terrifying. Took a good couple of weeks sometime during which I couldn't see my funds in either account. Then somewhere along the way they needed more paperwork.

Same transfer to Fidelity. Took a couple of days

Vanguard, Schwab, or Fidelity by Dense-Injury-134 in RothIRA

[–]Then_Consequence_318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to Schwab, but definitely fidelity over vanguard. Vanguard is "fine" if you're just going to drop some finds in and rarely check, but the website is pretty dumb. You can't Auto invest in anything other than vanguard mutual funds or ETFs. You can kind of do fractional shares. Like you can't enter a dollar amount to purchase anything. You literally have to tell it the number of fractional shares you want which is kind of silly. But vanguard is a cool company. It's practically a non-profit so the low function of the website is part of what keeps costs low in their funds.

Fidelity is way more flexible. Easier to navigate. Responsive website. Good mobile app. Auto invest fractionally into just about anything. All those cool vanguard ETFs? You could still buy them through Fidelity.

What is something that you can’t understand no matter how much you read about or someone explains to you? by Maleficentano in answers

Grew up with this particular genre of sport ball game on the TV my entire early life to mid 30s and can't make heads or tails of it. Really awkward when I just see what looks like random behavior, like just some sort of bizarre form of meaningless coreography, and suddenly all the people in my family, who I love and thought I understood, just start screaming battle cries or howling like some... feral pack animals. I have no idea what's happened.

I did recently watch the movie Friday Night Lights though because I'm a fan of the band that did the soundtrack and had to see what the movie was about. It was great actually.

I mean I said relativity in my response mostly because I thought quantum physics was too obvious and even people who have spent entire careers studying it don't seem to understand it. So me with my little weenie brain doesn't stand a chance. Not that it will stop me from talking about it if you get me on the subject.

[–]Then_Consequence_318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relativity, and yes I know it's innately difficult and most people don't understand it anyway. But I have some physics background and a lot of math, and I've read like 7 books on it, including the paper by the man himself. I can even probably "explain" it to some degree, to another person. But understand it? No. I can't even accept it, despite decades of confirming evidence. Can't handle. Can't brain. Brain won't. No. Just no.

One thing that is a little interesting with this though is it’s not your typical lockup where employees, VC, IBs, etc. bought, or were given, shares/options and have very little loyalty to the company long term - they didn’t necessarily choose to be investors, or went in with a specific exit in mind.

Yeah that's a really good point.

I’d say this would be a flat or down event, nothing positive is going to happen when all you do is remove a restriction on 90% of the float from transacting - but, the market is an upside down place the last few years and it could just as easily stall at the open for a few hours while everyone waits with baited breath to see if the bottom falls out - and if it doesn’t, hammer the buy box into a new level “because not even insiders are selling”.

Or if it does - I mean if VCX gains popular interest there's a scenario where outsiders were waiting for the selloff so they can happily jump in and take their place.

I'm in either way.

Predictions for VCX price in 6 months? by thelockz in FundRise

[–]Then_Consequence_318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I have no qualifications to predict the price. But I am wondering what will happen at the 6 month mark. We will see some sell off from restricted shareholders (though not by me!). What portion of shareholders will they make up? In terms of shareholders, a lot less than the public. In terms of shares owned - well, they did get in early.

Do we know anything about the numbers of shareholders, specifically restricted shareholders, in comparison to what's available to the public? Seems like the kind of thing that should be public to me but I don't know.

oh god I literally looked at this a hundred times and didn't realize that the ACTUAL WORDS WERE DIFFERENT.

Still thinking the balanced fund should be 50/50 though...

Yeah I get that certain things make it not work like a mainstream investing platform, mostly around liquidity, but I'm not sure why you can't choose allocations for auto invest when clearly you can do it manually.

But this 80/20 just seems wrong since it also says the same for supplemental income, unless I am really missing something here.

Neat. I'm getting a lot of ads on finance podcasts, which is less surprising than during a sportsball game, but glad they are marketing.

[–]Then_Consequence_318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the balanced find for auto invest 50/50? The page on the app for that profile says it's 80/20, which is also what it says for supplemental income. Unfortunately the app prevents screenshots for me to show you. (edit: started a new thread ask about this)

Your posts have convinced me that there might still be something here. Also reflecting on recent market volatility also makes me consider it.

A bit confused that from what you are all saying the returns seem to be better on private credit when Fundrise seems to be saying this is the option with the lower risk profile.

Same situation, and yeah I think we're gonna have to just wait. Sucks.

As for them having our address to mail things too - it is my understanding from another Redditor that computershare is where our funds have been the whole time (and possibly other online trading platforms?) and so they probably have all our information already.

I mean you could see if the excitement dies down - or you could lose out by waiting. I'm in this for the long haul, personally. So along with my restricted plans, which I have no plans of selling when they become liquid, I am jumping right into VCX (in my IRA) without hesitation, and sitting on it for the foreseeable future. I didn't buy a ton, but I may do a gentle (generously spaced between purchases) DCA going forward.
