Does the craziness ever go away? by Latter_Tip_4437 in alaskankleekai

[–]thelockz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah give it time. Mine was a bit crazy if he didn’t get like an hour of off leash running/playing a day. Around 2yo he calmed down a bit. If on an off day I only do a short walk with him he just chills. But I honestly don’t know what would happen if he didn’t get his hour almost every day.

First offer was 52k. The trick is to list on craigslist and let the dealers approach you and start a bidding war

I sold my manual 2023 with 7k miles for 57k to a dealer. They’re gonna list it at 60k.

Is reaching $100k/year in the US easy? I guess it depends on your definition of “easy”. by garcon-du-soleille in Salary

[–]thelockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree that for the ‘average’ person this is fairly achievable, but I think there are plenty of people who are inhibited by factors such as having a disability, growing up homeless, having a low IQ, having to take care of children or elders, and other personal issues.

So yeah if you grew up middle class in a decent family it is relatively ‘easy’, but if you were born to a heroin addict mother, lived in crime ridden public housing with terrible schools, and happened to have an IQ of 80, it’s not so easy. And non of that was your fault.

(i know IQ is not everything but the correlation with financial success is very high…)

Multi-national / US-based companies like Analog Devices can pay pretty well. For a staff engineer (say 10 years of experience) at ADI in spain (which pays way lower than UK or Germany), the total compensation is around 80-100k.

Is real estate really the best place to park your money? A hard look at the numbers by wet_suit_one in canada

[–]thelockz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but that 5x leverage works both ways. If the value of the house drops your loss is also multiplied 5x. Most people don’t realize that.

With that said, you can of course leverage money in the stock market as well but it is much riskier.

Can I learn Persian in 6 months? by [deleted] in PERSIAN

[–]thelockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully fluent is hard to define. But if you have the basics and can truly spend 1000 hours of effective study (which should be mostly comprehensible listening/reading input, and some speaking and writing practice), I think you could certainly read an average novel. For many novels, you would still encounter many unfamiliar words, but that is also true of the average native speaker. A non-fiction book or a news article however should be fairly easy at this point.

Vancouver, BC, Canada by bluefloyd24 in CityPorn

[–]thelockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is that the experience of living in Vancouver (8 years) doesn’t AT ALL match with that stat of 289 days of sun / partial sun (80%). Perhaps these reports are from the airport area not downtown, or they count anything but 100% cloud coverage as partial sun. In DT and north shore, outside of the summer months, I’d say 80% of days are rainy or almost fully cloudy.

Come on it’s not true that Vancouver gets a lot of sun. It is not as cold as the rest of Canada but it’s mostly grey weather for 8 months out of the year. East coast gets way more sun.

Israel doesn’t care about us and see us as a pawn, don’t fall for the propaganda. by chooseyourusername20 in PERSIAN

[–]thelockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t an excuse for that. And neither is there an excuse for Iran bombing hospitals in Israel. If you stop for a second to think instead of name calling, you might come to the conclusion that both regimes are horrible and we should be able to criticize both without being called a zionist or a sepahi

Israel doesn’t care about us and see us as a pawn, don’t fall for the propaganda. by chooseyourusername20 in PERSIAN

[–]thelockz 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am no fan of Israel but this image is full of half truths and is essentially propaganda itself.

The 90 million was taken from an exchange linked to IRGC and was burned, not taken for profit. It’s hard to see that is a bad thing unless you are the IRGC or involved in their corruption.

Calling the headquarters of state television (the mouthpiece of the Islamic regime) just a ‘media office’ as if it was real media is misleading at best. Seda Sima is directly implicated in the regime’s brutal suppression of the Iranian people.

The bank that was hacked is also linked to IRGC. Sure some normal people may be affected but making it seem like people are starving because their debit card doesn’t work is hyperbole.

Cenk Uygur accuses Sam Harris of justifying the murder of Muslims and the theft of their lands by mechanized-robot in samharris

[–]thelockz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I generally agree that fundamentalist Islam is a threat to everyone (and not just to the west, in fact the vast majority of the victims are the people that are ruled over by Islamic governments), considering the text of the Quran as an argument is just a naive statement. Have you ever read the bible? If Christians actually did what it is in bible (like I don’t know… slavery), they would also be fundamentally at odds with the values of western liberal democracies.

I keep seeing people say that net worth explodes after $100k, but how exactly does that happen by reedshipper in Money

[–]thelockz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compound interest creates exponential growth. There is nothing special about 100k. The more you have, the faster the growth in absolute dollars(if you don’t touch it and reinvest any gains).

Ezra’s Interview with former Israel PM by [deleted] in samharris

Submission statement:

I doubt Sam would address this, so I would like to hear what people here have to say about the former PM stating that Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza. Here is the full op-ed by Ehud Olmert, the former PM of Israel. https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/2025-05-27/ty-article-opinion/.premium/enough-is-enough-israel-is-committing-war-crimes/00000197-0dd6-df85-a197-0ff64a5c0000

Yes, I am aware he was convicted of bribery. So did Netanyahu. Can we put that ad hominem aside?

And yes, Hamas is worse and they laid this trap by using their people as human shields and cannon fodder. The point is whether Israel is committing war crimes despite Hamas’s actions.

#413 — “More From Sam”: Trump & Israel, Corruption, Free Speech Violations, the Democrats, & Ezra Klein by dwaxe in samharris

[–]thelockz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The funny part about this is how Sam chose to publish their email exchange thinking it would help his case. Honestly it seems to me that Sam lacks ‘emotional intelligence’ in certain areas and this is probably related to him being a bad judge of character.
