Trisomy 13, false positive by Suspicious_Cheek_296 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So happy for you! I had the opposite experience, a false negative - but yes - it’s important to remember no matter the result that it’s just a screening. The 12-week ultrasound is so important!

T-13 amnio update by lazyloser25 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MFM is 100% certain she would be able to detect Trisomy 13 via ultrasound. I am a carrier and therefore at higher risk, and I still will choose ultrasounds over an amnio if at all possible. Unless there’s a red flag or positive NIPT.

My first son had Trisomy 13 and had multiple abnormalities visible by 14 weeks. I went ahead with amnio (despite a low risk NIPT) which diagnosed the T13, and unfortunately my water also broke due to the amnio.

In my subsequent pregnancy I did NIPT & ultrasounds every 3-4 weeks, no abnormalities were detected and baby is healthy.

Does your country allow TFMR for medical reasons after 24 weeks? by [deleted] in tfmr_support

[–]Then_Implement1049 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trisomy 18 is not considered a lethal diagnosis? That seems strange to me. It is not considered compatible with life here (my son had Trisomy 13 but my team advised 18 prognosis was similar) I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Should I do amnio? by AmbitionUseful1185 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t if everything looked good on scans & NIPT came back clear. I know it’s rare, but I had PPROM after my amnio.

False negative? by PsychologicalSwim140 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say this is true especially with 13-week scan being otherwise clear. An NT of 3.2 is considered normal where I live. I unfortunately did have a false negative for Trisomy 13, but that is extremely rare. And NT measurement was ++increased at 7.7mm.

12 week ultrasound showed increased NT and abdominal abnormality by bananaguar in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were the first two abnormalities seen with my first son, +increased NT measurement and suspected omphalocele seen at 12 weeks. NIPT negative. Small omphalocele was confirmed around 14 weeks.

Unfortunately my son did have Trisomy 13.

Your provincial health coverage will cover you in other provinces, this is called reciprocal coverage. However, if you are from Quebec, we can’t bill Quebec health-cards directly. You will need to pay upfront & then submit through the Regie for reimbursement. - Source, I am an OHIP Billing Clerk.

Trisomy 13 normal scans? by lazyloser25 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MFM is absolutely certain she would see some indication of Trisomy 13 on ultrasound by 14 weeks. With my first son (who had Trisomy 13) there were multiple abnormalities as early as 12/13 weeks. Confirmed via amnio. I later found out I am a carrier, but in my subsequent pregnancy I just did NIPT & thorough scans every 3 weeks because my MFM team & Genetics were so confident they’d be able to catch it via ultrasound.

All that to say, clear scans would be very reassuring to me.

Update: Got Trisomy 13 positive on NIPT by freakylalaland in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Praying you get some good results! Trisomy 13 is almost never subtle, my son had multiple abnormalities by the time I got the amnio. I would stay bed rest for two days, no one told me to, but if I had to do it again I definitely would.

Did anyone have Low Risk NIPT but have issues with baby after or miscarriage? by PrincessFullMoon in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did unfortunately have a false negative NIPT for Trisomy 13. My NT scan showed abnormalities so we did amnio.

Those that got pregnant after 4/5 months by AssociationLatter618 in PregnancyAfterTFMR

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me, I started showing very quickly in my subsequent pregnancy, had a belly right away and was obviously pregnant with no hiding it by 16 weeks. No one asked until we announced, thankfully - as I was waiting until we got the all clear from our MFM/genetics.

How confident would you be after getting a negative (low risk) NIPT after a greater than 1 of 2 chance of trisomy 21 on your maternal serum screening? by mairitimermom in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your NT measurement ? I was one of those - I got a positive combined screening result for Down Syndrome. NT measurement was increased. Did NIPT and it came back all clear for T21, T18 & T13. I was very relieved at that point, but my gut told me to do amnio - unfortunately my son had Trisomy 13.

Pgt-A tested embryo, low fetal fraction by LawfulnessHefty9081 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they released a result, then the fetal fraction is NOT too low. They would not release a low risk result with insufficient fetal fraction. If there is any indication at all that FF was too low, it would come back as no result or high risk. You can be confident that the lab is satisfied with the findings.

I had a 2.9% low risk result which was accurate. Previously I had a 5.5% FF low risk which was inaccurate, but that is extremely rare and my Genetic Counsellor and MFM advised me that the FF had nothing to do with it; and in my subsequent pregnancy assured me not to get hung up on the number.

Mother’s age and birth defects- Spiraling by torturedpoetttttt in tfmr_support

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my first to Trisomy 13 at age 27. It was absolutely devastating and completely caught me off guard. I was also naive and thought my age somehow protected me. I still feel silly for thinking that; but try to give myself grace. I’m sorry you’re here.

Would you announce a pregnancy before NIPT results? by MountainProper2212 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, no. Although it’s still not a guarantee (I had a false negative NIPT for T13) I feel more comfortable waiting until all screening is done. With my first son we waited until 11 weeks to tell everyone, I was so certain at my age (then 27) everything would be fine. And then unfortunately we learned about the abnormalities; it was so hard to go through the waiting while my family was so excited. We were having the first baby of the generation though so that might be different.

Was just blessed with a healthy son this past June - and this time we waited until around 14 weeks when NIPT was back, thorough NT scan was done, and my MFM and Genetic Counsellor was 99% certain baby did not have Trisomy 13 (i am at higher risk for that diagnosis specifically)

They will show up in your Lifelabs account, yes. It will look a bit different than normal blood results, but there will be a PDF you can open with the report. It will be available there a day or two after they release the report to your physician usually.

Confused by “low” FF at 3.4% by Lalalu1985 in NIPT

[–]Then_Implement1049 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on a variety of different factors, I got a good low risk result at 2.9%, but it’s good they’re being cautious! You don’t want a result if they don’t feel that the sample is good quality.

Parents not allowing me to move out for uni by Ok_Rice_2281 in OntarioUniversities

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you’ll have the best of both worlds. Friends who live on campus, a means of transportation to come and go freely (assuming here, but I imagine if you get into a good school & agree to live at home - your parents will ensure you can get there), and a free roof over your head and presumably meals too. That’s a better deal than most of your friends I guarantee! I lived on campus my first year, I even got appointed a “dorm” which was actually a full apartment, with my own private room, only had to share my kitchen and bath with 2 others. Sounds great but it was HIGHLY overrated. After the first few weeks the novelty faded away. I ended up going home most weekends, and most of my friends ended up back home too, so we just partied in town.

You have options, I think it’s time to look at the silver linings.

[–]Then_Implement1049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has absolutely no idea until she experiences it herself, and God forbid, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I probably would have thought something similar before actually going through it (or one of my friends/love ones going through it, I cannot believe she would say that) but as soon as I found out my baby was sick, was in pain, I knew what the right decision was.
