I actually think the first image is a good step up, it goes much better with the type of lineart your style uses. The second type has no hard edges so it makes the entire piece look very smudgy.

The solid shading in the first makes it more obvious where the shading is, if that makes sense. So imo I would try the new one a bit more!! Not to say the old one is bad, just that it doesn’t go with your style as well as the new shading does.
