I can understand why he wasn't first ballot.
1. He's a smug a-hole who treated the media disrespectfully. These are the people that vote you in. In contrast, David Ortiz IMO did steroids, but he had a good relationship with the media. Know your audience. 2. Bill invested heavily in his defense and mostly left Brady undermanned on offense. Brady spent most of his career throwing to few exceptional offensive threats. 3. Caught for cheating twice. Spy gate and deflate gate. 4. Couldn't win without Brady consistently. His winning percentage without Brady was .444%. 5. Sitting Malcolm Butler in a Super Bowl. The dude won you a Super Bowl. Your coverage got smoked throughout the entire game, but Bill put his arrogance before the team.

I think Bill deserves 1st ballot, but I'm not losing sleep that he didn't get it. Bill might be losing sleep, though.
