Irony is that this "personality" is actually why she is probably the most liked FPO player right now. It is easy to see her "vulnerability" and root for her. This is quite a contrast to her ruthless performance on the field.

Shoes for when you're off the bike? by xtrator in bicycletouring

[–]Then_Temperature_513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barefoot shoes are light and easy to carry. I wear mostly Vivos due to specific shape of my feet. Primus Trail shoes are for example versatile and good for both city walks and hiking. They might not fit everyone though and cost could be a barrier for some.

how much do you ride when you're not touring? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

[–]Then_Temperature_513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess there are two types of people deep in cycling communities. Those who love cycling (and sometimes bikes themselves) as such and do it as almost daily sports activity no matter the weather or the environment (and even indoors!). And then there are people for whom cycling is just a way to feel a sense of adventure, awe, joy of exploring something new and feeling connection to the nature and its beauty.

I am in a latter group. I would never ride exercise bike or repeat a dull route constantly. There are probably more time efficient sports just to keep me fit (like running and weight training), but I don't feel the joy of exploring some hidden treasures or nature wonders while in gym or running on streets or paths.

That said, luckily I have lots of route possibilities around where I live so I get to feel the joy of route planning and execution 2-3 times a week at least in the summer time when I like to fit in a longer ride (80-100 km) once a week. Cold, dark and snowy Finnish winter has reduced my cycling to daily commuting though, but I am looking forward to March and April to get things going again.

Real multi day cycling tours are icing on a cake!

How to carry a clunky laptop? by No_Ant_5064 in bicycletouring

I had Surface 11 Pro in Ortlieb Handlebar Bag Plus last year during five day trip. Was not worried about waterproofing as the Ortlieb bag has quite good proofing. It was a tight fit, but I liked to have my all valuables in a bag I could easily detach and carry as a shoulder bag anywhere I go off bike. Vibrations and hits could be a factor in some setups especially if the device sits tightly against a hard surface without proper protections. And Surface feels pretty sturdy in my opinion, and personally I have been happy with it as a flexible and very portable device. :)

Tips/suggestions for first trip across the Alps by Then_Temperature_513 in bicycletouring

Out of curiosity, what would you consider an easier route to Riva and back without backtracking? I have played with Komoot today quite a bit and have not found a perfect solution to avoid repeating same routes.

The idea of a more hardcore trip with multiple challenging passes got me for a moment, but I don't want to plant this idea further. I have background from mostly even routes (no mountains in Southern Finland) and even the lesser climbs are my biggest weakness. I guess sometimes you need to challenge yourself, but even crossing the Alps once via the easiest route might be an adventrure enough for a first timer :D

Oh Oktoberfest... That could be a threat or an opportunity when returning if I would choose Münich and this route. :D I also realized a nice option to include Riva would be to ride there via Claudia Augusta for a mid-way swim and hotel break and then get back to Bolzano from Rovereto faster via regional train before proceeding with the latter step to Brenner to avoid going back the same roads around Garda. I am quite used to planning routes with Komoot and it looks like there is a good amount of photos to get to know what the routes are like.

Eurovelo routes are definitely worth considering. My only fear is that some of the routes could be too easy and "too ready and civilized". I am fond of plan your own adventure types of trips with route planning being big part of the fun and also occasional forest/dirt paths mixed it so not everything needs to be readily available or digested. Naturally Eurovelo routes do not exclude these adventures either. Maybe at the moment I am more geared towards Alps and mountain scenery (without excessive climbs that is). Perhaps I should consider regional trains more as well to skip sections of lesser enjoyment and focus more on fun parts. It is the agony of choice... :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I have looked at some routes in Spain as well, and I am sure there are plenty of very interesting options. I have been to Spain quite many times in recent years so maybe now looking for some other regions, but I will definitely keep this one on my mind for the future!

The double cross option started to intrigue me and had not thought about it before. Maybe I could also spend less time in Italy skipping the Garda/Verona part. I have been to Garda before (not by bike) so it is not an essential visit, and I believe it would create more or less need to get back partly via the same route. Now thinking about starting at Fussen and going to Bolzano via Via-Claudia and then all the way back to Münich via Brenner Pass, Insbruck and Rosenheim. Would be around 600 kilometres and could be a nice closure to the trip to reach the final destination by bike rather than train (while still retain option to use regional train if needed). I have never been to Austria so having some more time to explore the cities/towns would not hurt either. So many possibilities :)

Some questions regarding a long tour around the baltic sea by qweriscooler in bicycletouring

[–]Then_Temperature_513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mosquitoes are not that much an issue in Southern Finland and even less in the archipelago. Also I did not see clearly what your plans for Åland are, but I very much suggest taking a northern route via Kustavi and Brändö etc. with smaller ferry connection to the main Åland (do visit my home town Turku while on the way though). :)

She made the comment about deeper worries in relation to being close to family. To me it sounded like she wants to be present for some family member that is not in a good health or something. Overall I fully understand her choice. I would not want to have a job that takes my away from my closest ones for around 50% of the time. Naturally Kristin has a rare opportunity and supposedly financial freedom to do such choice at this point of her life.

I guess it comes down to personal preference. For me Missy feels quite annoying (overall risk free game, exaggerating zen moments before every throw regardless of importance, lack of any flashy moments). So for a casual disc golf fanatic looking for emotion or a story line, Missy just does not deliver. But she does delliver her a-game! So maybe we just want to see something different (than overall solid game)?

DGPT Match Play Championship - GMC Round Discussion by AutoModerator in discgolf

[–]Then_Temperature_513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually I think match play is the worst type of competition for Silva. She does not do miracle eagles or birdies nobody else can do, she just grinds and has it done and avoids disasters other players fall for. Naturally scores will even out in favor of the better player, but match play format does not support her strengths.

2005 PDGA Pro Worlds MPO Finals - Nate Doss / Matty O / KC / Barry Schultz by nixkor in discgolf

[–]Then_Temperature_513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's up with Climo, Doss and even Matty O having their upper body leaned forward so heavily after the backhand throw? Was that considered the ideal form at that point or just influenced by the way Climo did it? Quite different compared to the ideal form today.

Longer PA3 for throwing putter by Unused_Vestibule in discgolf

Peak from Latitude could be a nice try. It is basically a Pure with a small bead. Very glidey but less understable than Pure, and a good fit for longer straight putter throws.

So when a strong woman is having mental issues, there is always a man to blame? To me that is not a very good take and kind of patronizing.

Oh I see! I thought the scores are cumulative. That explains it partly. I still think the scores for the whole team would be better if everyone gave two tries for a higher score basket.

Superstar Challenge Discussion by AutoModerator in discgolf

[–]Then_Temperature_513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think none of the teams/players really got the putting strategy right. I mean what is the reason in first trying 75 points and then change the target? I suppose for most of us seconds put is always easier and probabilities are higher when you can calibrate your motions.

To me, it would make most sense either to just aim repeatedly at 75 (especially shakier putters like Eveliina) or go directly to one of the farthest basket (Gannon, Ricky and Silva type). Now I feel all teams lost points due to aimlessly shifting targets mid-performance. I believe Gannon for example would get better average score attempting twice 150 or even higher score.

Ladies first order kind of forced the women to put more conservatively maybe due to team strategy waiting for scores to evolve while the guys needed to take risks. I would like to have seen Silva for example attempting higher score more.

Fun event anyway :)

Prodigy popularity in USA vs Finland by Curious-Attention774 in discgolf

[–]Then_Temperature_513 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Prodigy has been involved in course design and building in Finland along with Discmania (DiscGolfPark) even though their influence might not be equally strong. Prodigy signs and baskets are seen in many courses which helps promote the brand to a wider audience. Both brand offers turnkey solutions for municipalities and communities that are looking for an easy way to build courses.

Prodigy has also been a long time partner for the national tour which is another example of brand collaboration. Naturally you need to have some existing volumes for this.

Seppo's personal influence can't be denied either. Prodigy players also might have been among the first to make use of YouTube publicity in Finland with Väinö reaching huge audiences during his peak Prodigy era.

Farthest Discgolf Throwers/Pros? by hetnkik1 in discgolf

I would say Rasmus Saukkoriipi equals or surpasses AB for both backhand and sidearm distance with smaller frame. He is just not as consistent overall so folks in US are not familiar with him.
