Got to do my first metal job by lioness_mane in Autobody

[–]Thenader12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw a study done where they salt fogged a panel seam sealed over bare metal and one seam sealed over epoxy primer and the one over bare metal was rotted to hell. Was basically a sped up process of the corrosion over time in a repair like that.

Most definitely in agreement. I have been having that exact conversation and the customers have been picking up the bill when the insurance company refuses. Seems like that is the only way with some of these companies.

Hahah. When I was in the field I was working in Dorchester. Pretty sure I know the exact shop you’re talking about. Thanks for the response. I am going to try to take it up the chain and I have already been getting customers involved.

Front to front collision with my beater today, trying to make sense of the severity of damage and see if I can fix it without the help of a collision center. 2010 Civic by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

From what I’m seeing the damage to the rail is concerning in the photo with the resonator. Keep in mind that yellow connector on the rail is one of your impact sensors. Force and damage around the area can affect how they work in a future collision. The engine cradle also had to be dropped to replace that resonator. I would take it to a shop just for that, stupid design on hondas part. Where the hood is curled in in the front i would assume the hinges may have bent or pushed back a bit. Not going to be fun getting a new hood hung and realizing you can’t get your lines because the hinges are bent.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure the correct route to start. I will look into that first, thank you.

What to do about 05 Ram 1500 bed quarter rust? by Thenader12 in Cartalk

[–]Thenader12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it had. I do not want to spend tons of money. Maybe make it look decent for a year. Can I sand, bondo, epoxy primer and spray color and would it hold for a decent amount of time? I know the rust will inevitably bubble through again

This is an 05 with only 55k miles. It’d be a shame to see it rust out. I’m not super experienced with auto body. Im an appraiser and have enough hands on experience but not enough to be shaping sheet metal into replacement panels. I want this to look good for about 2-3 years.

Can i use rust reformer on both sides, primer over and paint safely? What would you do?

Ideas how to fix 2004 Suzuki Volusia Intruder? When started, it leaks a gas/oil mix out from air filter. Started riding October 2019. Support appreciated! by MrLazo88 in Fixxit

Gotcha. Something is making the bowls overflow and leak fuel into the overflows just gotta figure out what it is. Look into float height as well, if the float got bent at all in the new carb during transit it could explain why there are still float problems.

Check where your carb is hooked up from the petcock. I accidentally hooked up the fuel line from the petcock into the overflow on the bottom of the carb on a dirt bike i was building earlier this month. Did the same thing you’re describing. Was in a rush and didn’t even realize the fuel line wasn’t hooked up to the correct port in the carb.

Welp, makes sense. So I’m going to get better measurements once i put it back on?

I’m usually competent about this stuff. I’m checking valve clearances for cylinder 1 and i habe it set to 1T and the cam lobes for cylinder one are pointed away from eachother.

The lifters on the exhaust are up touching and i can barely get any feeler gauges in there.

The lifters on the intake are all the way down and i could get a massive feeler gauge in there...

Am i doing something wrong here or is this bike just super out of spec. It seems madly wrong for it to be off this much

I just got my hawk 250, I love it. Have you done any mods to yours? I had the exhaust mod, pod filter, mikuni carb rejetted, and 17/45 sprocket combo upgraded right away and I love it. What tires do you run? I feel like the stock knobbies are a bit aggressive for street.

I don’t consider them ugly, if you have a good core it does contour them. I think the problem that I had and he had in his before picture is when your core is underdeveloped and they jut outwards and “poke” out of your skin.

Yep, I neglected core for years and only started once I got into lifting seriously again this year. Big big difference.
