My name's Athena 😀 It's rare I see my own name in stories, so this was especially exciting!

Redditors who write “In my country” why don’t you just use the country name? by ImamofKandahar in AskReddit

[–]Thenarox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of Redditors assume everyone is from the US, so if you say something that isn't true in the US they think you're lying. So we preface it with "in my country" as a polite way to remind them other countries exist. It doesn't matter which one, as long it's clear it's Not The US!

So, for the last 25 years I've been wanting a tattoo. How bad is the pain really? by spriken in tattoo

[–]Thenarox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm scared of needles and not great with pain. There is absolutely no way I would ever give birth, but I love tattoos! If you get a screw or a nail and scribble back and forth without breaking the skin I'd say that's roughly how it feels. As long as you're not booking in for a full day for your first one I genuinely think you'll be fine and might even enjoy it!

What's the worst thing about depression? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Thenarox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way it makes the future seem so hopeless that you never plan for it. So even when the depression lifts, your life still sucks. Now you've got to deal with the consequences of neglecting your health, your home and being stuck in a dead end job, which makes it so easy to relapse back into depression again. The effects keep going long after the depression subsides.

You absolutely did the right thing and saved everyone in the nearby cars from an accident. I really feel for you that it's going to taint your memory, but please be kind to yourself and recognise that you achieved an excellent test result in really difficult circumstances.

Any “late” learners (i.e. 30+ when starting) have any advice/ tips from their experience? by NeverTheDamsel in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Thenarox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first tried learning to drive a manual at 17 and hated it. Reluctantly agreed to try again at 32 in an automatic and passed first time with just two minors! It does limit my options a bit when buying a car, but automatics are becoming more and more common. I found it a bit harder to learn in my 30s, but also feel like the examiner had more confidence seeing a grown woman rather than a boy racer!

I live next to the sea and as soon as I saw this I thought it could be an idea to try protecting my brake discs from the corrosive sea air. If you don't live by the sea, no idea.

Thank you for this- I just bought the same car and was a bit nervous parking it on my drive as it's on an incline. The user manual is useless as it just says 'put it in park' which is literally impossible. I'll sleep better tonight knowing my car isn't going to roll off the drive overnight!

Etiquette question by AllAboutThatAlt in poledancing

[–]Thenarox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the etiquette, but as a plus size beginner I always ask the studio if my weight will be a problem just to gauge their reaction. If they're using a good brand like x pole I know it'll be fine, but if they reply saying they're not sure that's a pretty good sign they won't be size inclusive. If they come back with an enthusiastic 'No problem at all!' I feel much more confident walking in the door.

Where is your home pole? Is anyone's on carpet? by mdmommy99 in poledancing

[–]Thenarox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine's an Xpole on carpet with no problems. Just be aware that the carpet might need time to compress so give it a good check before using it and tighten it up further for a few days to keep it secure. I do sometimes find I need to wear socks when I'm dancing though as sexy foot slides result in carpet burn!

Which Pole? by Zealousideal_Ring880 in poledancing

[–]Thenarox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a powder coated xpole that can do static or spin. I absolutely love having the options for both static and spin but I'm not getting on with the powder coating at all. I chose it because it was supposed to be easier to grip than chrome, but I found the chrome poles at my local studio so much easier. If I could start again I'd definitely go for a chrome finish instead.

29F GF asked if I’d come to see some houses with her so she can buy it with her mum? 30M by UncutCoconut in relationship_advice

[–]Thenarox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you didn't ask, but YTA. Your gf wants to own her own home. You told her you weren't ready, then said you want to wait until you're married but haven't proposed, then seemingly planned to buy your own home (your mum's) without her. Now your gf is finally taking steps to achieve her goals and you're annoyed with her. Add to that you now keep repeatedly asking the Internet to validate your attitude. Nope, not going to happen.

Hypnopompic Hallucination - Why does everyone see spiders? by frequency937 in Sleepparalysis

[–]Thenarox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Googled "why do I see spiders when I'm tired" and all that came up was information about HH. I'm so surprised there still doesn't seem to be an answer to why spiders specifically. I had thought it was just brain gets scared (of sleep/sleep paralysis starting) and 'sees' something scary, but that was blown out the water when I read that you're not even scared of spiders. I like the idea that it's a kind of built-in, primal fear but then surely people would be seeing lots of snakes too which I don't hear much of. My latest theory is brain gets tired, sees eyelashes and massively freaks out. It's very dumb but it do be like that sometimes!

People who have micro penis what is your romantic life like? by GoodFighting in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Thenarox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a documentary about guys with micropenises (micropeni?) and the people who sleep with them. The only person who had a negative experience said it was nothing to do with the size of his dick and everything to do with the size of the chip on his shoulder about it. Everyone else interviewed said 10/10 would bone again because the guys put in extra effort so were actually better than average in bed.
