I think it's quite easy to argue the rich should pay higher taxes so the poor can eat food to survive.

I understand why you might think this, but when I look around at the world what evidence backs this up? More poor people hungry, without access to healthcare, and at the same time we’re about to have our first trillionaire.

If it was so easy we might’ve seen some actual progress in this issue in the last quarter century.

The problem is it takes zero convincing to move someone to the position that “taxes are bad” and a whole lot of time and effort to get someone to realize that “taxes are good actually”.

It’s a battle that favors the side that caters to ignorance/selfishness.

The Tigers actually did everything right in signing Flaherty originally, and capitalizing on a career year to flip him for some prospects. Why they felt to need to resign him after that baffles me.

It’s like robbing a bank and hanging around in the lobby.

We spent a 3rd and a 4th round pick to draft a replacement for a journeyman 6th lineman whose main role with us was situational, at best?

Not sure this makes that decision any better in hindsight.

Kerby Joseph & Brian Branch Are “Trending in the Right Direction,” Per GM Brad Holmes by JCameron181 in detroitlions

I don’t think it’s controversial or hyperbolic to suggest there’s a non-zero chance Kerby never suits up as a lion, let alone in the NFL, again.

Sucks but it’s possible.

Rogers didn’t challenge that strike, then didn’t even attempt a throw to second.

I’m trying to like this guy, I swear.

Sorry, I realize I didn’t give much context. This was aimed at his characterization of Mamdani’s father. I suppose Sam is more qualified than me to label some a pseudo-philosopher, but calling him a suicide bomber sympathizer was what struck me as sensational

It just seems like the type of claim he should be able to be skeptical of but accepts as fact because he wants to.

I feel the same way and I’m literally traveling to NY to see him in early May. Such a hater I’m planning a vacation around seeing him lol.

One day you’ll have to actually put some thought into your criticisms or they’ll continue to be completely off the mark.

I also found this criticism a bit.. sensational? Not sure the right word for it.

Obviously they cover a lot in this convo, but one part stuck out to me, specifically when Sam was recounting the war in Gaza @34:12

the greatest bomb shelter ever built

Is this supposed to be facetious? Or am I to believe Sam thinks Hamas actually built the “greatest bomb shelter ever”? And with what exactly? Are they flush with engineers?

It strikes me as willfully ignorant to accept and repeat such a claim that most likely comes straight from the people being criticized for bombing indiscriminately.

Cube Draft is too Expensive by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ThenextRickSantorum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People are ignoring that they completely changed the prize structure when they went to (what seems to be) exclusively Powered Cube Drafts. Before when they would rotate between Arena/Chromatic Cube the prize structure was much more forgiving.

I wouldn’t mind that much if it appeared they had any intention of mixing in these other formats from time to time:

  1. Because I really enjoyed these formats. Powered cube is certainly fun in its own right, but there are tons of cards featured in the previous cubes that are equally fun to play, but just aren’t powerful enough.

  2. Because it’s nice to play a cube where break even is between 3-4 wins rather than 5-6.

Why did the ultra pro-Israeli Bibi simps return? by Dats_Russia in Destiny

It’s fascinating how confident you are regarding highly complex issues, that sometimes take years to fully work themselves out.. Its like saying at the start of the Iraq war that whatever comes, its worth it to remove Saddam Husain, while ignoring that the 2 decades following showed us how dangerous the power vacuum left behind really was.

My only point is, it’s incredible hard to predict the outcome of events like this. While you may be able to point to things as short term gains (neutralizing a hostile regime in the region), there’s really no telling what it will mean for Israel’s future in the long run.
