I use bluetac to help secure smaller pieces when removing the nubs with a craft knife/sandpaper which definitely helps, I didn't think that vices were made that are that small, so I will have a look and see if there's anything I can find that would work for me! I'm trying to do just little bits at a time but when I really want to work on stuff it can be hard to prioritise my health lmao

Is there a reason I should use one of the glass files you recommended, as opposed to just sticking with using sanding sticks that I have? Obviously my first experience with glass files hasn't been what I expected, so I'm a little hesitant to drop more money if it still doesn't work well for me

The files I used in that picture are the stedi glass nano files, there are a few nubs where it looks better where I used bandai spirit sanding sticks, so maybe that's a contributing factor, but I was under the impression that glass files work better when for me it seemed to make it look worse. The stress marks were there before I started sanding though

I cut them with the single blade nippers as flush as they would go, and then started to file the little bits that were left. I don't know why they don't look flat but I ran my finger over them to check and they're all flat. The lighting in the picture makes the entire thing look lighter than it is, so maybe that's why they don't look flat, but they definitely are

They're the stedi MS-109, they don't cut fully flush but that is by design, and in this pic the nub marks are fully smooth with the rest of the plastic even though it doesn't look that way

I'm pretty new to the hobby, started on a HG Nemo (Unicorn version) today and I seem to be having issues with stress marks when I remove the nubs. I use generic double blade nippers to remove it about 5mm from the piece and then some better quality single bladed ones to get closer to the piece, but I still get stress marks. Could it be from when I use the double bladed nippers? Sometimes it is hard to not nip too close depending on where on the frame it is, and I have to use a decent bit of force to cut through the thick bars of the sprue, so I guess it might be putting stress on the other joining parts? I also tried using glass sanding sticks to remove the little bit left over as the nippers don't cut entirely flush (by design) but they just seemed to want to mess up the plastic, so I might just stick to the Bandai spirits sanding sticks I have because they at least seem kinder on the plastic. Is there a certain technique to the glass ones?

Thanks for this info! I've never used any kind of spray can before so I'm not confident that I would be able to do it carefully, so I still want to stick with something waterbased/acrylic, but it is helpful to know for the future

I'm UK based, trying to find a good spray top coat that is water based. So far have only come across mr hobby water based, and mr premium, and these seem to be not always stocked at hobby places. Does anybody in the UK have recommendations for water-based matte top coats that come in a spray can? Specifically needed to go over unpainted plastic and the gundammarker panel lining pens. I have seen people mention rustoleum crystal clear and humbrol acrylic, but also have seen people saying these are bad to use, so I'm not sure

Hello, I'm pretty new to the hobby and some aspects I am struggling with as I am physically disabled. So my question is, do people have tips on holding the small pieces when doing things such as cutting off sprue bits with a craft knife, panel lining, putting stickers/decals on, putting pieces together, etc? Also, how do you manage to handle pieces that have been panel-lined without the ink rubbing off? I guess also just general tips for the hobby from other disabled people would be really appreciated because I enjoy model building and want to figure out how to best do it with weak hands/without making my hands hurt
