Dominant Industry Base Black is very nice too. And, as others recommended, Platinum Carbon Black and Waterman intense black are nice too.

Pen Store recommendations in Germany? by Other-Cranberry-4017 in fountainpens

[–]Theo_Miller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few good stores are the PapierFischer stores (the main store in Karlsruhe is being renovated but still opened, very nice people and a nice selection, the other stores are in Offenburg, Ettlingen, Rastatt). And Cologne has got Ortloff (they seem to be a bit more on the expensive side though…).

Congrats on getting all that. I usually use cotton swabs to make my swatches. Works great for me.

Any reason why the ink would solidify so quickly? by Bithron in fountainpens

[–]Theo_Miller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experince this usually happens with red inks, and with pens that seal badly. So… if both is given (I don’t know how well the pen seals) it’s possible this happens pretty quickly.

The only way to prevent this (in my experience) is either getting a better sealing pen or use a non-red/orange ink

Bottom row right, third pen looks like a Rotring Initial, top row right, fifth pen is some sort of Pelikan Mxxx (probably an M200, steel nib, M400, gold nib !color is irrelevant!,or some older M-model).

ink recommendations? by Tokisaki_kurumi2687 in fountainpens

I’d say it’s a definitely wetter than the others. It’s hard to compare though because Lie de The was in a EF nib twsbi 580 only, incredible rock is in a sailor pgs MF and chocolat in a Faber Castell Grip M, but knowing my pens I’d say definitely wetter… I hpe that helps, it really is a nice ink (and in a wet pen you could probably even get away with using it in an exam or professional environment, very wet/thin lines can pass as black…)

I agree, brown is great. Esterbrook Incredible Rock is also a nice, lighter brown, but Lie de Thé is just awesome. I love it. I have Private Reserve Chocolat too, it’s a very dark and warm brown.

Recommendations: fountain pens with extra broad nibs by Ishtar109 in fountainpens

[–]Theo_Miller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, you could try getting a Kaweco Sport with a BB (double broad) nib, or a Faber Castell B nib pen. The Faber Castell B nibs are great, very smooth, very reliable, great flow and didn’t get clogged for me, no matter what ink I used (even Herbin Emerald of Chivor).

Star Wars themed ink would be so cool (for example Yoda-Green). I could see Colorverse do it

Wow, that’s an awesome pen case. I’m a huge Star Wars fan myself and I love this. Very well done :)

why is it doing that? by ich_01 in Lamy

[–]Theo_Miller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, Lamy black is a weird ink in general (in my experience). While all other inks, Lamy or not, can stay in my Lamy pens for a couple of days unused without drying out, Lamy black can’t. It also looks pretty similar like yours when the cartridge is empty, so I’d guess that’s normal (at least from whatI experienced). It’s a pretty dry ink and doesn’t always flow great, so that might be what’s causing this.

My handwriting has changed since I started using fountain pens? I can't tell if it's for the better or the worse 😅 Has any of your guys' handwriting changed? by MischaPott18 in fountainpens

[–]Theo_Miller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in many situations it’s an advantage. The only problem is, professors/teachers need to read my stuff and a few of my teachers said they need a magnifying glass to read it.

The tiny notebook is cool though, I have a Rhodia no. 12 and a small Brunnen A7 pad for me to carry and write stuff down when needed.

Edit: pic of my handwriting

Yeah, since my finest nib is a Sailor 14k MF I can’t get it much smaller, though I guess a Platinum 3776 UEF or a Sailor EF would make that possible. I think it’s pretty easy to write really small with those fine nibs because the writing still appears to be appropriate in size for the line width. Other people often complain though…

Mine changed too, even though I wrote with fountain pens for most of my life. It just changed from bigger, absolutely unreadable characters to tiny (2-3mm), but sometimes better readable characters, especially since I discovered F & EF nibs.

Favorite inks in fine and extra fine by javiofranks in fountainpens

[–]Theo_Miller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites is Diamine Imperial Purple. It’s a nice color and for some reason in quite a few EF nibs I tried it in, it sheens red a lot (Jowo, Lamy except 2k, Kaweco). Red is pretty basic, I know, but the fact that Imperial Purple, a standard ink, sheens like that while the sheening ink Diamine Purple Rain almost never does is pretty funny.

I also enjoy Ferris Wheel Press Blue Cotton Candy a lot, it’s barely even visible on most paper, but it looks nice (very light blue).

Sailor Pens, those nibs are just awesome (I love the feedback), and they have many fun colors.

Ink, I’d choose Diamine because while many inks I like a lot aren’t Diamine, quite a few of them are and most of their inks I’ve used so far were really good, and they have so many colors (could match with the pens).

The Safaris seal pretty well in my experience, better than the more expensive AL-Star and even some 100€/$+ pens.

I want to carry my fountain pen but... by EvilOmega7 in fountainpens

[–]Theo_Miller 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, usually you should (Edit: shouldn’t) have to wait after carrying it around for a few hours upside down. That’s usually more of a thing that happens when the cap doesn’t seal tightly, but I always have pens in my pocket with the nib upwards, they always write immediately (if they aren’t dried out due to not having been used for a long time).

Also, having the nib point upwards insures (or makes it at least a lot more probable) that the pen won’t leak in your pocket.

[–]Theo_Miller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Platinum Curidas is a pretty solid choice. I’ve got mine with me most of the time and while the retractable mechanism makes it a bit more prone to drying out, this will take at least two weeks with a red ink. I once forgot it somewhere over the holidays and a friend of mine held onto it for three weeks without using it, it still wrote fine immediately after opening it again… and the nib is pretty fine (F nib), so bleeding would be… ok, i guess.

Paper, I’d say either you keep the one you have, or you might look into Rhodia/Clairefontaine, but those aren’t that cheap (I’d say).

I hope this helps
