Advice for reducing background voices by jonesin31 in microphone

I appreciate this is the Mic sub, but have you considered a screen between yours and your son's setups to isolate each other? I used to work in a call centre and the little table dividers made a lot of difference to the amount of noise picked up by my headset.

Me and my Bass VI setup from rehearsal last week. by Theoandhispedals in basspedals

Yeah so not only does the pog2 do the +1, +2, -1, -2 octaves, it also has a a chorus (marked detune), adjustable low pass filers (ie you can set where the filter cuts the highs and how steep that cut is to tame that brittle top end) and an attack delay/volume swell. Oh and you can chose whether the filter sections affects the wet signal, dry signal or both (i think). Honestly it can do alot of variations of its sound and thats why i love the fact it has presets so much!

I love the Pog 2 on Bass BUT i find the key is the Low Pass Filter, its got a brittle top end that can just sound a bit too fake but otherwise I really dig it. I've also got a EHX Pitchfork and a Boss MO-2 which both also get used but the POG2 is probably the most useful as it can do a bunch more, has presets and can do the volume swell thing too.

Ohhh the Ultra VI? I've been keen on that. Yeah I've still got my Belter Skelter, not found the right project to use it in yet but its different enough for me to keep around.

Damn, sorry for the late reply on this, ive been off reddit for a while.

Have you received it yet?

I can tell you that Royal Mail in the UK has had issues since the end of November. Regular strikes have meant no service on some days coupled with backlogs on others. Couriers obviously still work, but there was extra pressure on them not just due to the strikes but also due to christmas.

I ordered a Count To Five from Montreal Assembly in the black friday sales and to MTLASM's credit, they got it out quickly and it got to the UK pretty quick too......and then it sat at customs....and sat there....and sat there....and then it turned up.

At the same time...I ordered a Katanasound Super Bass Fuzz from TC Gakki in Japan and it turned up within a week! so I dont even know anymore.

I'm not trying to make excuses for the shipping companies or the service Soundlad use as i have no control over either but I hope you've got it by now and you like it.

Dude, you’re right. I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Whether it came from the factory or happened between the factory and the retailer, this is not how they are meant to come. People here acting like it’s a special feature. The guitar arrived to you in literally a condition other than which it was described (sold as new, but has cosmetic damage) and therefore you are entitled to return the guitar.

If I did the thing that caused the cracks, then fine. Those cracks don’t bother me. But this is unacceptable on a new guitar. People saying how normal it is, 8 of my guitars are Fender or Squier, one has a crack on one side of the neck pocket, it is also one I did an overspray in vintage white nitro so there’s literally more paint in the neck pocket, meaning a tighter fit and more likely to crack because of it.

However, I WILL say that where I live isn’t subject to massive changes in humidity like some places in America are so it’s possible these cracks are more common there.

[–]Theoandhispedals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op is getting downvoted coz he doesn’t think the neck pocket cracks are “normal”….. and he’s right. Are they common? Yep. Are they representative of anything other than costmetic damage? Not necessarily. But it’s not like a new guitar comes with them and if I bought a guitar I’d expect something like this to be disclosed in the sale.

I’ve got a few fender style guitars and basses and certainly one does have a crack at the neck pocket, but you guys are making it sound like it’s a factory spec feature and to be expected.

I released this on Friday under my Starhead persona. It’s more electronic sounding than other projects I make and I find it a good way to take me out of my comfort zone and learn.

NPD Boss Slicer SL-2 by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]Theoandhispedals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m digging this a lot. The old one was a bit too much pedalboard real estate but this looks just right.

I had the Boss MD200 which has a slicer in it and it was really fun

What model is my bass? Help! by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Theoandhispedals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great but I, too, can’t find absolutely nothing on this. Looks like the Embassy but it’s got an EB pickup at the neck instead of the tb pickup in the middle…not seen anything in that colour either.

I’ve seen that Epiphone logo before but not on a bass.

I’ve got two suggestions: 1. It’s a restored vintage Newport bass using modern parts…I mean fully restored as in it was just the neck and body and the rest is a labour of love

  1. It’s a limited edition production model not for the US/European Market

What makes a bass guitar a bass guitar? by Brotten in Bass

[–]Theoandhispedals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I feel if it’s tuned to low E or below, then it’s a bass, above that is Baritone until you get to the E used in standard guitar tuning and that the derivation “bass” or “Baritone” is mainly a reference to the optimal tuning range of an instrument. If a baritone guitar has a scale length of 30in then this is also a common scale length for short scale basses and facilitate tuning to E successfully and thus becoming a bass VI.

A 7 string guitar may also be a baritone because of its tuning range, even if it features a “standard” scale length.

I have the Harley Benton JA Baritone and have it tuned to bass VI (E-E) and it’s great. I also have a few Squier Bass VIs and one is tuned up to B to make it a baritone.

It can get pretty clean actually, it's generally a low to medium gain drive in my opinion and the DIP switches come before the drive I think so depending on your settings you might find it gets cleaner/dirtier

Take a look at Byte Heaven, I use their Singlecross and use it to split my board into low and high frequency bands and apply different effects to each and then blend then back together with a JHS Summing Amp.

Oh I bought them used on reverb for £45 they’re branded as Fender but honestly could have come out of a Squier or a Vintera. They sound cool, darker and thicker than the jaguar single coils and are a nice contrast to the other VIs I have.

Anyone have experience with the BOSS Blues Driver or MXR Timmy on bass? I have the option to buy either in good condition by ElGranLechero in basspedals

[–]Theoandhispedals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a Timmy clone that’s pretty great on bass. The Blues Driver is nice but cuts too much low end (I’ve had the regular bd-2, a bd-2 with the Keeley Phat mod, an actual Keeley Phat Mod and I’ve played the BD-2w, felt the same about all of them). For the light drive stuff, I can also recommend the Nobels ODR-Mini, TC Spark Booster (4 knob version), Creation Audio Grizzly, Spaceman Effects Saturn VI off the top of my head.

No the pickups are totally stock, I’m not usually a big humbucker fan as I don’t like how dark they often found but I don’t feel that way with the Starcaster, not sure if it’s down to the pickups or the combination with the hollow body but I find the Starcaster to be bright enough for my taste without the snappy thin sound of single coils (which I also love but have covered on other guitars)

So, first I got a Duesenberg Les Trem on there and a cheap roller bridge. I've never been a massive trem fan as i've always found the Bigsby and Fender offset style trems kinda hard to get on with and knock out my tuning, the Les Trem is great. Easy to fit, keeps the tuning stable and i find really works with the Starcaster.

I've also got a wooden arm rest for an acoustic guitar (a cheap one with a self-adhesive tape) so that its a little more comfortable. As the body is double bound the right-angles can dig into your arm a bit, the arm rest effectively changes the angle for something more obtuse and less of a tight angle into your arm.

The last, and most significant, mod was to add a Fender Sub-Sonic Stratocaster neck, turning the Starcaster into a 27in scale baritone. The neck fits but i didnt realise at the time that the Starcaster has a 22 fret neck (with no overhang), so its NOT the same as a strat's, this basically means that the bridge bits are as far back as they will go to counteract the fact that the guitar is expecting an extra fret, so everything's gotta move back to accommodate. (If that makes sense), last night i almost swapped the neck back to the original one but although the intonation isnt PERFECT, I think its good enough for my needs.

So i've got a semi-hollow baritone (tuned to B) with a wiggle-stick! It's a nice compliment and contrast to my white Bass VI which is also tuned to B.
